WikiProject France

[edit]

Hello! We are a group of editors working to improve the quality of France related articles. You look like someone who might be interested in joining us in the France WikiProject and so I thought I'd drop you a line and invite you! We'd love to have you in our project :-) STTW (talk) 18:37, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I follow new pages created on Wikipedia and found your article Georges Labit Museum a good stub. Do announce any France related article on Wikipedia:WikiProject France/New article announcements so that other wikipedians interested in France may be able to improve/comment on the article. Happy editing, STTW (talk) 18:49, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I apologise for the jibe, which wasn't aimed at you personally. However, I have had my images, identified as such, and uploaded before tagging was compulsory, deleted without warning, presumably because it's easier to delete than to notify uploaders or replace the "my image" with a "GFDL-self" tag.

This image was labelled as USFWS and I changed to a tag following your message. If that's not enough, just delete it. If you come across any other US government images I've uploaded, delete them too. I'm a bit fed up with the assumption that uploaders are acting in bad faith, which seems in contrast to the laissez faire attitude of the rest of the project, thanks, and sorry again, jimfbleak 06:27, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I understand what you are saying, but having uploaded public domain images in good faith (naming the source at the time), and putting a proper tag on as requested yesterday, I really can't be bothered to jump through more hoops tracking down the URLs. As I said, delete them. It's only when my own images are deleted without warning that I get upset. Someone will probably re-upload the USFWS images at a future date anyway. jimfbleak 13:11, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I should point out that it would easy for you to find the URL by entering the species' name in the USFWS photo section search box, but I of course accept that you are under no obligation to do so, and are perfectly within your rights to delete, especially given my limited cooperation. Pax vobiscum, jimfbleak 16:34, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WMD

[edit]

Could you perhaps explain what a WMD is in the case you cite?—Ryūlóng () 21:28, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is probable that you will be granted suffrage in the RFAs you've voted in (you've put out an astonishing number of edits since registering). However, I'm not positive that 6 days is enough to get familiar with the community and its workings. I'm not discounting your vote; I'm letting a crat decide. If you've previously been editing under an IP (or just lurking... extensively), I apologize. Thanks for understanding (I hope). GracenotesT § 21:32, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Frans Buissink

[edit]

I feel that if an article has been around for a while and has had several edits (ignore the bot) then there is a possiblility that, because it has been viewed by several people, some notability may be there and a speedy is not required. I think in cases like this is a "prod" or "AfD" is the better course of action.

In this case I also felt that as I could not quickly find any web sites in English that it is impossible to say if there is any notability or not. So again I would leave it be to ensure that there was an opportunity for someone else to say that this person is or is not notable in their own country. I suppose that it is my way of trying to ensure that in some small area the North American bias is slightly compensated for. As an example I hit random article and got Fantasy Stakes. I assume that the notability is because of the prize money but why is that article any more notable than Frans Buissink? CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 22:14, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your clean up of this article. I think you really brought it up a notch. Could you please revisit it though? You changed the way I did the categories, but I think you had a typo with the template you used. I'm not familar with this template, so I would have to revert it back to my way of doing categories to fix this. Clerks 22:02, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please give a better explanation for why you think the above page should be deleted. I'm afraid I do not understand your rationale; I have created many pages just like that one. --Ryansilke

I have elaborated. Thx. - Tragic Baboon (banana receptacle) 12:13, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My Sig and others

[edit]

Thank you for the compliment. It's still a work in progress. Are you referring to my usage of {{utc}} and {{date}}? Preferences already substitutes templates used for signatures. My sig is in userspace so I can have greater control over the formatting. I can't transclude utc and date because they would give the incorrect date. I could copy and paste the code from those templates and put it into my userspace sig. Incedentally, I think there's too much transclusion paranoia about server stress. This is really an issue with often used templates and was more of a problem when userboxes were in vogue. Malber (talk contribs) 11:49, 24 November 2024

With all due respect, I don't think you understand the purpose of transclusion. Transclusion reduces server strain. My sig is already and automatically transcluded by preferences. Can you point to any pages where it appears un-transcluded? If you find any my response would be: {{sofixit}}. Sorry, I was reversing terms, I think you do understand transclusion. I've subst'ed the offending templates. Malber (talk contribs) 11:49, 24 November 2024
I've already corrected the template that uses the transclusion to use ~~~. If I hadn't, you would have seen it on "whatlinkshere". Malber (talk contribs)
You're right about the time. I'll have to look at ways to code this and keep the formatting. Malber (talk contribs) 19:06, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If this is a major concern to you, and you really want to start a transclusion crusade, I would suggest tracking down the users of the following overly transcluded templates:

Those are a couple to start out with. If you're looking to attack really obnoxious signatures, try these:

Avraham Korman and your nominations of Judaism articles

[edit]

Hi Baboon: You have nominated the (stub) article about Rabbi Avraham Korman for deletion. Judging by the Hebrew link provided [1] by the creator of this stub and the number of original works of rabbinic literature this rabbi wrote, the rabbi seems to be notable. Why are you taking it upon yourself to judge if an Orthodox rabbi is notable or not? Do you read Hebrew? Do you know much about Judaism? Are you learned in Torah study to make such quick decisions? Something seems to be wrong with your approach and your harsh nominations for deletions of articles relating to Jews and Judaism are becoming a matter of great concern. IZAK 11:33, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Are you kidding? Do you reserve it for yourself alone to judge the notability of orthodox rabbis? From where do you glean that I made the decision "quick[ly]"? Finally, didn't I list the article myself as the relevant noticeboard, where you saw it and had the opportunity to remove the tag - is that not the best evidence of my good faith. Incidentally, which other articles related to Jews and Judaism have I nominated for deletion? I am pretty sure you owe me an apology. - Tragic Baboon (banana receptacle) 13:33, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I discovered this discussion by accident, and I'm not IZAK. I recognize that the {{prod}} was applied in good faith. However, it might have been better to have applied {{notability}} and {{Unreferenced}} tags rather than a {{prod}}. --Eastmain 13:52, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have a question about the tag you placed onto the article. The article conforms with Wikipedia:Places of local interest and therefore shouldn't have a problem with notability. Moreover, I hope you can give some suggestions to how to make the article better, instead of just putting up a template. --Deryck C. 12:23, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your RFA

I had just updated DYK with the river image and got conflicted at Next Update. Hope you don't mind if I revert your change and keep the current image. I personally like this image, but if you really think it should be changed, I can pull off a switcharoo. Nishkid64 21:07, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA

[edit]

Hi Tragic Baboon,

Thanks for participating in my recent RfA. Even though it was ultimately successful (at 54-13-11), I value all of the feedback and have already benefited from the community's suggestions. Hope to see you around. - Gilliam 21:51, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've just received your message; someone else has already removed the notice and expanded the article slightly. I can see why you added the template, but I think that more can be made of the article. I'll have a go over the next few days. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 21:33, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

John Harkes book cover

[edit]

Hi, I'm the jerk who tagged the JH book cover as replaceable. I should've done what you did and just moved the pic to the relevant part of the article, but I must have been especially lazy that day. I'm going to go ahead and remove the tag. Thanks.

Hi. I asked you a question [2]. While I respect your oppose, I don't think it is entirely fair or logical. I look forward to your answer. Cheers! Yuser31415 (Editor review two!) 06:12, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can't say I'm too disappointed, since the RfA closed a day early with no oppose votes. That's pretty cool, considering the previous ones. Sorry for the slow reply; I've been up to my elbows in vandals and speedy deletions since I got the new buttons. If you ever need anything, you know where to find me. Thank you for your support in my RfA, which closed at 111 / 1 / 2. I am humbled and rather shocked to see such kind comments and for it to reach WP:100. Please feel free to leave a note if I have made a mistake or if you need anything, I will start out slow and tackle the harder work once I get accustomed to the tools. Thank you once more, I simply cannot express in words my gratitude.
