Guitar stuff

[edit]

Your guitar template might be a good idea if you can get enough article links to make it worthwhile, Though I don't think the current version is worth using, you may be able to expand it enough to make it useful. Other areas have templates that go at the bottom of articles with links to related topics. You might have a look at Amphetamine and Yoga for a couple of examples. --GraemeL (talk) 18:26, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I just saw your latest version added. It now looks much better. I'll keep an eye on it to see how it progresses. Good work. --GraemeL (talk) 14:31, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, instead of including the list of topics link in the template, it would probably be a good idea to work towards including quite a few of the links from the list in the template. --GraemeL (talk) 14:34, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I looked at the two examples you suggested and they don't look as 'busy' as this one. The yoga template for instance only contains links to categories. It seems like it would be more useful to only include links to categories, main pages, and pages with important links (see List of guitar-related topics which has, at the very top, a list of different types of guitars). This would increase readability and ease of access as well as reducing redundancy. --Amazzing5 15:35, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Whichever way you guys think will work best. I was just providing some ideas for getting things off the ground. I only have a few guitar articles watchlisted as they tend to attract spam and it's a nice change when I get to welcome somebody with a genuine interest in contributing like Tommaso456 here. I'll leave the content decisions up to the experts. --GraemeL (talk) 16:17, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The templates/portals are looking better! :) ... Unfortunately, at least on IE 6, there are some places that overlap. Both the guitar and classical guitar portal sites have this problem, but also small pages with links to both portals have problems because one is vertical and the other is horizontal. --Amazzing5 20:47, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Guitar portal

[edit]

Hi Tommaso,

I'm Audacity, not Madder. I don't get any problems when I click "hide" - has someone fixed it already?

Also, can I suggest you postpone your GSOTD project, and instead work with WP:SOTD (the main SOTD) for a while? We can allot you a couple days for guitar sounds. The reason is that the main SOTD hasn't even gotten off the ground yet, and I'd rather not try to overexpand. Merging the two projects - for now - would help to increase the number of people who use and contribute to this feature, more than splitting off into two groups.

Great job on the guitar portal and template. Λυδαcιτγ 19:13, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. ¿Hablas español? Λυδαcιτγ 19:17, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, great! One hint: to link to an article inside Wikipedia, use brackets: [[]]. For example, [[User talk:Audacity]] produces User talk:Audacity. Also, you may wish to customize your userpage, to let others know more about yourself. Λυδαcιτγ 23:36, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another tip. When you want to sign your messages on talk pages, add --~~~~ to the end of your text. When you save the page, the wiki software converts that into a link to your user page and a timestamp. --GraemeL (talk) 23:44, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh– and if you're a guitar player, which I'm guessing you probably are, you might want to add one of these to your usepage.--Pharos 23:49, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Guitar sound recordings

[edit]

Echoing Audacity above, it would be great if you could collect some free-license guitar recordings for WP:SOTD. And good luck with your development of the guitar portal.--Pharos 23:31, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Experimenting

[edit]

Remember the guitar template is live in several articles. If you want to experiment with various layouts that may or may not work out, it's best to do so away from the actual template. Most users would use a personal sandbox for such things. You could create a sub-page of your user page such as User:Tommaso456/Sandbox and try different things out there without affecting live articles. Once you are happy with the results, you can then copy and paste the wiki code to the live article. --GraemeL (talk) 23:38, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Guitarists

[edit]

Hello! I would like to invite you to check out a brand new WikiProject, WikiProject Guitarists. It is aimed at creating and improving articles related to guitarists. Comments are welcome, and I hope you will decide to join. --Aguerriero (talk) 15:51, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for bringing us the beauty...

[edit]

...by adding the photo image (my favorite!) of Tabea Zimmermann to the English-language article. This was the first Wikipedia article I translated from the French, and I was pleased to see its subsequent translation into Hebrew. Along with her frequent performances here in Israel as a solo and ensemble player, TZ contributes much to local viola and chamber music education, and we are among her devoted admirers. :-) Deborahjay 15:55, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion

[edit]

Hi there, I notice that you tagged Image:--public domain-- LS Coker.jpg for speedy deletion without giving a reason. I have not been able to find a reason why this page should be speedily deleted, so I have removed the tag. If there is an actual reason from WP:CSD that this page should be speedily deleted, please re-add a tag from that page which gives the exact reason, or use {{db|insert reason here}}. Alternatively, you can use WP:IFD instead. Thanks! Stifle (talk) 22:14, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Tabea Zimmermann.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Tabea Zimmermann.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Chowbok 18:02, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Guitar portal template

[edit]

Hi. I've been wandering around various guitar-related pages, and I find it annoying to have the guitar portal template at the bottom; if it's going to float on the right, it belongs somewhere where the text will appear on the left. I've moved it to the top of a few pages to rectify this. If you disagree, please let me know.

Speedy deletion of Template:GSOTD/Thursday

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Template:GSOTD/Thursday requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Thanks. --MZMcBride (talk) 21:33, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Carlo Marchione.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rossrs (talk) 06:36, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
