License tagging for Image:Frol Kozlov at LBNL.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Frol Kozlov at LBNL.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 11:05, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

Image:Ursula M. Burns.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Ursula M. Burns.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Chowbok ☠ 02:18, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
Image:CLSmith-Publicity-Thumb.jpg listed for deletion
[edit]An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:CLSmith-Publicity-Thumb.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Replaceable fair use Image:Matraca Berg.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Matraca Berg.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ten Pound Hammer • (Broken clamshells•Otter chirps) 16:41, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:The Outcast's Outcast.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:The Outcast's Outcast.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 02:13, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (Image:BachirGemayel2.gif)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:BachirGemayel2.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:24, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with Image:Roy Jenkins- A Retrospective(book).jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Roy Jenkins- A Retrospective(book).jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Missing cats
[edit]I removed a couple of catsd that you have been adding Category:Missing aviators and Category:Missing air passengers to articles about air accidents. As these relate to persons they dont make sense on these articles. I have raised the problem at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Aviation/Aviation accident task force#Missing foo cats for others to comment, thanks. MilborneOne (talk) 22:15, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
Point taken. I was unsure whether to add those pages to the category. I suppose if the indviduals concerned were sufficiently notable they would each have their own page. Todowd (talk) 22:30, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
Flags in Infoboxes
[edit]Please stop adding flags to infoboxes. They are to be avoided as overly nationalistic. See MOS:FLAG. They are generally only appropriate for military figures who serve under a flag or athletes who compete under a national flag. Thank you. GcSwRhIc (talk) 17:11, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
- My apologies. I will remove the flags I had added, where they were inappropriate. Todowd (talk) 17:52, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks and happy editing. GcSwRhIc (talk) 18:05, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
- I've removed the flags, except where the people concerned were military personnel at the time they did something notable. Todowd (talk) 18:06, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of List of accidents and incidents involving the DC-3 in the 1950s, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: List of accidents and incidents involving the DC-3 in the 1970s. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.
It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 20:44, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
- The bot erred here. This is a new list - List of accidents and incidents involving the DC-3 in the 1950s. It is merely the layout that is similar to that of List of accidents and incidents involving the DC-3 in the 1970s. I have removed the tag as a result. Todowd (talk) 20:58, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
DYK nomination for Albert Jewell
[edit]Hi. I've nominated Albert Jewell, an article you worked on, for consideration to appear on the Main Page as part of Wikipedia:Did you know. You can see the hook for the article here, where you can improve it if you see fit. —Bruce1eetalk 14:08, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hi. Thank you very much for being so thoughtful. I was away from a computer for the last week or so and I only noticed your post now. The page got about 2,100 hits on the day in question, which is gratifying, even if it doesn't qualify to be recorded anywhere. I created the Albert Jewell page as a by-product of the List of aerial disappearances I created. I will probably be creating a few more pages corresponding with new entries on the list (and perhaps some of the existing ones.) I suppose aviators and aircraft disappearing in mid-flight are well-suited to be DYK topics, so maybe some of the others will feature there again. It had never occurred to me before you nominated this one. Thanks again. Todowd (talk) 20:37, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
DYK for Albert Jewell
[edit]On 9 July 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Albert Jewell, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that, in 1913, American aviator Albert Jewell disappeared off Long Island, New York, on his way to an air race? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |
—HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 08:02, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. As I already noted (previous section), there were only 2,100 hits, which is quite respectable.
- I am not sure that any of the other aerial disappearances for which I have created articles (such as Edouard Jean Bague in 1911, Damer Leslie Allen in 1912, George Henry Fraser in 1919, René Guilbaud in 1928 the Cuatro Vientos in 1933, Émile Barrière in 1936, the 1950 Douglas C-54D-1-DC disappearance or the 1974 Typhoon Bess WC-130 Swan 38 disappearance) would do as well as DYK items. They are all either short articles about individuals or incidents which have probably been expanded as far as they can or stubs corresponding to article other language Wikipedias that need considerable expansion. Perhaps some of those in the latter category might be potential DYKs.
- Maybe Light Heart would be more likely to catch Wikipedians' imaginations - with a well-crafted hook; it is an intrinsically dramatic and memorable story. Aldo Pontremoli could also be a candidate, because of the unusual combination of nuclear physics, polar exploration and aviation; Enrico Fermi's name can be dropped in the hook, for example. I will give the matter some thought. Todowd (talk) 21:09, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
Better source request for File:Falkiner Ireland.jpg
[edit]Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:
You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. Message delivered by Theo's Little Bot (opt-out) 21:13, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
