SOP

[edit]

I saw your message at ARoseWolf's talk page, and looked here. I had a quick reaction that I didn't know what an "SOP" is. I'm guessing it's "standard operating procedure". You might want to spell that out. --Tryptofish (talk) 22:25, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Tryptofish Will do in the eventual version. Thank you. Happy to have your edits to it. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 16:53, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Kindness under fire

[edit]

This is an excellent essay, and one I wish I'd written.

Would you mind if I added a bit about practicing compassion, and choosing to interpret the other person's responses in the best possible light? Not quite in these words, but along the lines of, "They're upset, and they think they need to fight to defend themselves; they think I mean to harm them. Lashing out at them and making them feel worse isn't going to help anyone. It might be better to try to explain things to them again, or point them towards something they can do that would undo their past misdeeds, or tell them I'm happy to listen to them and try to understand their point of view." Kindness under fire is the hardest kind of kindness, and I think the one that we all most often struggle with because the instinct is to try to fight back when we're upset and insulted. ...and maybe even a radical method of AGF: assuming good faith no matter what. Call it 'believe in good faith'. People often say 'I'm trying to assume good faith', but maybe we need to assume it regardless: 'I don't know this person's reasons, but I believe they're doing what they believe is best for en-WP, and my efforts to explain why it might not be best aren't working. I'd appreciate help in explaining, because I'm getting frustrated and need to step away'. StartGrammarTime (talk) 02:45, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
