Palm Island elections

[edit]

Election information is better placed at Palm Island Aboriginal Shire Council. Cheers, Mattinbgn\talk 09:09, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not really fussed either way, but if we have an article on the council it makes sense to have the information there, don't you think? Cheers, Mattinbgn\talk 12:23, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

the Saint Townsville

[edit]

Hi i never started this page but i have ask why did you delete it without any discussion? i was adding a ref to the page at the time you deleted it and this is a landmark here in Townsville, here is the ref i was going to add http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200203/s506796.htm plus google has a lot more if i needed them, so can i get your view on doing this page again (but worded better and with refs). Thanks Thuringowacityrep (talk) 12:34, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

While I'm happy to answer questions, it looks like your question could have been answered and resolved more quickly if you had used my message wizard. It's linked as "Talk" after my name and at the top of my talk page. Why not try it next time?
Go ahead and recreate it. The only sentence on the page that I could make any sense of was "The Saint is a famous land mark in Townsville, Queensland which was painted by a group of men in 1962". The rest was rubbish. Stifle (talk) 20:51, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you, will start the page again soon and when done, would love it if you could look over it and let me know your thoughts.

And sorry i didn't use the wizard thing as i just clicked on the Talk link after your name as i do with any talk page, so im not sure why i never went to the wizard. Thanks Thuringowacityrep (talk) 07:10, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your comment. If you look at WP:LINKSTOAVOID, unfortunately that website falls under "Links to blogs and personal web pages, except those written by a recognized authority." Whilst it may be useful and correct, it needs to be from a recognised authority for it to be on Wikipedia. Also as for your recent edit summary, the primary onus is on the person adding the info to cite that claim not others. If someone added new info, they almost always got it from a source. Michellecrisp (talk) 00:16, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately the other site you refer to also falls under WP:LINKSTOAVOID Michellecrisp (talk) 01:31, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

To request a block, try Administrator intervention against vandalism. It'll be much faster (since I'm not an admin, I can't do it directly). Best, --Bfigura's puppy (talk) 05:47, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've read the entire page and see nothing noteable about him. Sure he's achieved your election candidate level of work, but name to me one thing in particular that makes him noteable? If something there is noteable enough to warrant it to be kept, point it out to me, and that will be it's saving grace. But a collection of non-noteables does not make it become a noteable. The page will be deleted otherwise. Timeshift (talk) 06:46, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I was pointing out the fact that my political beliefs had nothing to do with the fact it's a textbook case of non-noteability, in that as i'm a Labor voter it makes no sense to see a Labor candidate gone. And yes I DO want the page gone, and it's going to happen. He is not noteable. And don't even start on POV, this exchange clearly shows your POV is clouding your judgement, my judgement is crystal clear. Per wikipedia noteability guidelines, he is not noteable, and will thus soon be deleted. Have a good day! Timeshift (talk) 01:49, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
a) A person is generally notable if they meet any of the following standards. Failure to meet these criteria is not conclusive proof that a subject should not be included; conversely, meeting one or more does not guarantee that a subject should be included. b) I do not believe an OAM establishes noteability, I would definately argue against giving all recipients of an order of australia an article unless it is just part of his noteability. Colbran received it for being a successful businessman and 23rd most influential in... townsville... i'm still waiting to see why he is sufficiently noteable. Timeshift (talk) 02:01, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And right on queue, the article is deleted. Enjoy your day. Timeshift (talk) 02:07, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Thuringowacityrep. I've been putting together some new info for the George Colbran article. If it gets restored, I will add this to the article. The article needs a rewrite. Just so you know what I'm up to.--Lester 05:49, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The deletion will only be overturned if you can show that I made a mistake in closing the discussion or if there was significant new information that wasn't available during the AfD discussion. Disagreeing with the decision or finding the deletion inconvenient isn't a reason for DRV to overturn the closure. Also, the AfD was open two days longer than it should have been and people had a full week to make edits to the article but no one had made any edits since 16 July, so that it was deleted 10 minutes after you made an edit really doesn't hold any weight here. You need to show that I made a mistake in interpreting the discussion, not that it was inconvenient to you personally, if you want the deletion overturned. Sarah 12:56, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: George Colbran

[edit]

Well, if you think you can write a version that gets over the notability bar, you can write a new version in your userspace, say here: User talk:Thuringowacityrep/George Colbran. Then when you're satisfied with it, you might ask the admins involved in the AFD, (me, Orderinchaos, Matilda) to review it and give you feedback and if it meets notability, then move it into the article space. I don't recommend you start writing it in the article space though as it will most likely just get speedy deleted as a repost, but you should be okay to work on it in a subpage of your userspace if you want to. Sarah 12:43, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you want a copy of the deleted article so that you can work on it in your userspace, as some editors have suggested on the DRV, let me know and I will give you a copy of it on the understanding that you are going to use it to write a whole new article in your userspace only for now. If you just post it back into the mainspace, it will be speedy deleted under the speedy deletion criteria CSD G5 (a copy of a page deleted via XfD discussion). But if you want a copy of it to help you write a new draft as suggested above, I am willing to give it to you. Sarah 15:06, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Thuringowacityrep. Just some friendly advice, but we need to be nice to the other editors, even if we disagree with them on content issues. We can criticise their content, but we shouldn't criticise them. You may want to read Wikipedia:Civility. I'd like to put together a new George Cobran article. But I'm concerned that if we inflame other editors it will make the job harder. Regards, --Lester 22:22, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

La Trobe (sic)

[edit]

The Capital city Statistical Divisions and Statistical Districts by population section of List of cities in Australia by population deals with Capital city Statistical Divisions and Statistical Districts, as the section title indicates. Statistical Divisions and Statistical Districts don't necessarily relate directly to geographical locations and therefore the names don't have to relate to geographical locations. The Sydney SD, for example, is a lot larger than Sydney itself. The Newcastle district actually covers most of the lower Hunter Region, extending well beyond the borders of the city of Newcastle. In the table, the column is titled "Statistical Division/District" so that's what we must use and the title of the Statistical District in question is "La Trobe Valley", as can quite clearly be seen in the citation provided.[1] --AussieLegend (talk) 06:24, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WIN Television

[edit]

Read the list "Free via Mystar DVR Tuner". MyAustar box is both a FTA digital box and Pay TV box. Austar isn't broadcasting it as it's being broadcasted from the local transmitter and not the satellite (The one above the earth). Bidgee (talk) 12:18, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Then it shouldn't be added. If you're going to do that then lets add all the other DVR's that can pick-up the networks. I'm sorry but it shouldn't be added unless it's broadcaster via Cable or the Satellite. Bidgee (talk) 12:39, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Chris Hurley

[edit]

You should be aware that WP:BLP1E refers to events and usually controversial ones not playing for a sporting team, that is not an event.. Also under WP:BLP we have to very sensitive of not defaming the subject even if it's covered in mainstream media. Secondly, professional sportspeople come under WP:ATHLETE. Michellecrisp (talk) 22:46, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Given that Hurley's only problem was the inquest that was struck out by the District Court and the DPP, CMC, and jury considered that there was insufficient evidence to convict him an contrary to the racist media image there is apparently books written about his involvement with the aboriginal community it should not be hard to amend the article to remove the defamation. Indeeed last time I tuned in it was purely factual an not at all POV or defamatory.

Thuringowacityrep I note that the page was deleted after a discussion between the 27 November and 2 December. I missed the opportunity to comment prior to deletion (not surprisingly). As a substantial contributor to the Chris Hurley page and someone in agreement with your view that it should not have been deleted I am wondering if you are interested in appealing the deletion? Hurley has been well known in the media for 4 years for a series of related events not just the death and is now also known for things outside of this death being his work on behalf of the aboriginal community. There remains a Mulrunji page even though the event was his only claim to fame. Jb3 (talk) 01:20, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
