Uploading a picture
Hey Thevardon, welcome! Got your note. I'm answering it now, this is just to let you know I'm working on it and I'll have your answer in about 3 minutes :) delldot talk 15:16, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
- Now then. My first advice would be to create an account on commons and upload the picture there - that way, it can be used on all wikimedia projects (e.g. other language wikipedias), not just the english wikipedia. The upoloading process is pretty much the same there as it is here. You go to commons:Special:Upload and browse to find your file to upload it from your computer. For destination filename, choose something that makes sense, like "cricket player in taunton.jpg" or something.
If you want wikipedia to be able to use it, you'll have to release it under a license compatible with the GFDL, which more or less means anyone can use it for any reason (if you're not cool with that, don't upload the picture). To release it, you just choose one of the "Own work - copyleft" licenses from the dropdown box on the upload form (whichever one suits your fancy) or the "GNU Free Documentation License" one. The upload form provides you with a thing that looks like {{Information |Description= |Source= |Date= |Author= |Permission= |other_versions= }} And the text at the top of the upload form gives pretty good directions for filling it out. Description is just an explanation of what the picture's of, source and author is yourself, permission would be what license you're releasing it under, I'd go for GFDL. For other versions put none unless there are other versions of the same picture.
Once you have uploaded it, you'll have a page on commons called Image:cricket player in taunton.jpg (to go with my example) or whatever you named it. All you have to do to put the picture on whatever page you want is to edit the page and put this: [[Image:cricket player in taunton.jpg]] on the page where you want it. There's some more advanced stuff I can show you about sizing the picture and placing it where you want it on the page. Drop me another note when you're ready and I'll help with that.
Hope this helps, definitely let me know if you need further explanation of any of this! Peace, delldot talk 15:28, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Please do not blank content from my talk page
Your recent edit to my talk page had the effect of blanking content. Please try not to do this in future, as it may be considered vandalism. Duplicate images uploaded
Thanks for uploading Image:Cricket player in taunton.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:1552366.jpg. The copy called Image:1552366.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.
This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot (talk) 16:01, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Copyright problems with Image:Cricket player in taunton.jpg
Copyrights
Hi again, Thevardonrushes. I should have been more clear in my previous message. If the image is already published on a website, as it is here, there is a more complicated process for granting permission for wikipedia to use it. Did you take the picture? Did you upload the picture to the viewimages site? Because it currently says "This picture is for viewing purposes only. No reproduction or distribution rights are granted," which means Wikipedia can't use it and it will have to be deleted. If you uploaded the image to the viewimages site, please let me know and I'll let you know what to do. If you didn't, we can't use the image unless you get permission. Peace, delldot talk 17:04, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with Image:Cricket player in taunton.jpg
Thank you for uploading Image:Cricket player in taunton.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Popplewick (talk) 20:51, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Hello. The things that we need to know about the image you uploaded run as follows:
- Where did you get the image? A crop of this image can be found at this BBC sport item, for example, which does rather indicate that the photograph was commissioned for official use. And if that's the case, then it may well not be yours to free into the public domain, which means we have to license it as a non-free image.
- For what purposes do you wish to use the image? If it's simply to illustrate/indentify the cricketer, then we run into the problem that we generally only use free images for that purpose.
Hopefully that's sufficiently clear. Cheers. --Popplewick (talk) 21:18, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
- I see I got it from the BBC Page with Darth Vader thing and I understand not to do that again because it is copyrighted. I am very sorry about this incident shall not happen again.Would it also be possible then to delete the file off of Wikipedia. I understand that I could blocked if it happens again under the code that I read up on wikipedia. Again I am very sorry.--Thevardonrushes (talk) 21:21, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
- Don't worry about any blocks or anything like that. If you leave the image as it is currently tagged (the big red sign etc), it will be deleted in due course. --Popplewick (talk) 21:26, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
- I hope I am not blocked because I wish to contribute to the wikipedia community.--Thevardonrushes (talk) 21:26, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
- No, you won't be blocked over one image, especially as you've explained about it. Don't worry about it. --Popplewick (talk) 21:28, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

{{Helpme}} templates
Please don't place scores of them on your user page. A helper will usually come along as soon as they can. Also, please don't go around the 'pedia pretending to be an administrator. Continuing to do so will earn you an immediate, and likely indefinite block. If you have any queries, please go to my user talk page. Thanks, Martinp23 17:23, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
- See my comment above. —Animum (talk) 17:33, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
As I am still blocked until tommorow please pass this onto the user named Animum and tell him Thankyou for reconsidering.
- Give me a minute Martinp23 17:37, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
- Done - this was caused by an autoblock, for information if you're interested :) Martinp23 17:40, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
Hi again. When you copy and paste parts of other users' pages, please do make sure you understand what they do and change them to suit your page - I've just changed the archival template you added here becase as it was formerly set up it would have archived your talk page conversations to animum's user area. Re: Questions
Hi. I've made you an archive box at User talk:Thevardonrushes/ArchiveBox, mostly by copying my existing one (shown on my user page). What you copied from my talk page to here were "transclusion links" - basically these include the content of the linked page onto the page where the link is added. You can probably see what I mean by looking at this page in relation to your archive box page (linked above).
Now, the archival bot will put conversations into a new archive page every month, which means you'll have to update the archive box to include the other months. This should be fairly self explanatory by looking at what I've done already.
Finally, if you want to try things out on wikipedia in order to learn how to use the mediawiki software, you should do so at the public sandbox or in a more private sandbox of your own, at User:Thevardonrushes/Sandbox (you'll be able to create this page and do what you want there - it's a perfect place to prepare new articles before moving them to the main article space). Help requested

Please can someone do something about the suspected sockpupeteers i suspected all afilliated with surajsamant.
- Perhaps you should consider taking your concerns to Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents, clearly stating which user accounts you think are sockpuppets. --Kife 11:21, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
- You could also make a report at the suspected sockpuppets page. Martinp23 12:42, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
Help Me
Please could someone help me with my supsected case about the sockpuppets i have started a report but do not know much to do as i am fairly new to the wikipedia community. Thanks,--Thevardonrushes (talk) 13:15, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
- Per the suggstions above, I would suggest making a post at either Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents or suspected sockpuppets page. If you are fairly new to Wikipeida, I would suggest visiting some of the links in the welcome box in your talk archive. Best regards! --omtay38 17:24, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
But I have already made a note at the administators noticeboard.--Thevardonrushes (talk) 18:26, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
- WP:SSP is a more direct route, but be sure you have the evidence needed to satisfy the requirements on that page. Cheers, Master of Puppets Call me MoP!☺ 18:33, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
I will try to help you. I've never filled out a sockpuppet report either, but I ought to be able to figure out how. Now I'm reading the instructions. --Coppertwig (talk) 18:36, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
OK, I looked at the edit history of Alpesh Vadher. I did see a number of users with similar names to each other. However, they have not been editing for months, so they are not currently a problem. I'm not sure that any two of them had been editing around the same time in the past, either. Sockpuppets are only a problem if they're being used abusively. At Wikipedia:Suspected sockpuppets it says "please be sure that: [t]he problem is current; if the suspected sock puppets have not edited recently, the case will likely be closed as stale."
So, unless you have some other information, I suggest that you post a note at Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/surajsamant stating that the case can be closed because there was no recent activity from the sockpuppets.
Also, please sign your name in the section of Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/surajsamant which says "report submission by". --Coppertwig (talk) 18:49, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
