Nursing schools categorization

There are two reasons why university articles should not be categorized according to their constituent units: an ontological one, in that (for instance) Emory University is neither a law school nor a divinity school, but a university. Emory University School of Law is a law school and categorized as such; the Candler School is a divinity school and categorized as such. The second reason is practical: if every university article were categorized for every program on offer, the article would be cluttered with category links and the category itself would be useless. There are fifty undergraduate programs alone in just one college at my alma mater, which has 14 colleges. In the specific case of nursing schools, most of the state categories were created by a highly zealous editor, since banned for unrelated reasons, and could probably all be collapsed into Category:Nursing schools in the United States. Compare that branch to almost any in Category:Universities and colleges by type and you'll find it to be an anomaly.-choster 17:00, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Kennesaw State University (off topic)

I'm a wikipedian from Norway, and I study [[political science in Norway, and I plan to study abroad (the US) next spring to watch the presidential ellection, and I strongly consider Kennsaw State, How do you feel as a student there (in political sci?). I highly recommend Kennesaw State. KSU has a strong international presence and department of Polical Science and International Affairs is very good. Georgia Southern/University System of Georgia edits

Jerm, in April 2006, Georgia Southern University received the classification of doctoral/research institution. I provided the link before, but here it is again:

Yes, according to that article, US News as claim/called Georgia Southern a Doctoral/Research university. However, US News does not decided which universities are that classification in the University System of Georgia. The Board of Regents decides that, and according to them Southern is still a Regional University.

Sorry about reverting your linking of fraternity and sorority pages, they got caught up in my haste and I made a mistake.

Although copied verbatim, the text was factually accurate. The Georgia Board of Regents' classification is merely for funding purposes, not necessarily based which degrees they confer. The definitive source on college classification nationally is the Carnegie Foundation. That is what all news papers and other factual documents cite when writing about colleges and universities, not funding designations from individual states. The US News ranking classifies colleges according to the Carnegie Foundation's classification for that year. Georgia Southern University does indeed confer doctoral degrees and is therefore considered a Doctoral/Research institution.

No, just because a school offers doctoral or terminal degrees in a subject it does not get classified as a Doctoral/Research school. How the state, that owns the school in this case, classifies them is what should be listed. --Jerm (^Talk/ _Contrib) 22:48, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Perhaps I didn't do a good job explaining this. The state's designation is a funding designation; it has little to do with the degrees conferred. Each state has their own terminology and classification standards. The Board of Education through it's member accreditation boards (SACS in this case) does not use each state's funding designation. It has its own which the Carnegie Foundation uses to derive its data. You can argue about the terminology all you want, but the Carnegie classification is the most widely used and sourced. Hello, As you may or may not know, Alexandria, Egypt was selected to host Wikimania 2008 [1]. So as to prevent the hard work of the many Wikimedians involved in the Atlanta bid from going to waste, we have decided to host a conference for the Americas. Rivers

I do not understand your objection and strongly disagree with the speedy deletion tag. The article you have flagged is part of the Wikiproject Rivers. The criteria for rivers have been defined in the project's discussion page where the participants have agreed that no rivers is too small in order to be incorporated in the project. The article is not independent, it is part of a series of articles defining the national river network - from headwaters, to various tributaries and then to the main river. This network comprises thousands of interlinked rivers. Eliminating the river you have indicated eliminates one of the links of the network.

Maybe what the project team has decided is wrong and you have the right to disagree. But in that case, the discussion should be carried out withing the project and not by singling out an article of a series of several thousands which all comply to the same criterion.Afil 00:57, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
