Permission requests

Many editors often wonder how to request permission to use an image they found somewhere, or a section of text from another source. Try using one of the permission request templates created specifically for this purpose so that you do not have to fuss with all the details.

To add this auto-updating template to your user page, use {{totd}}

Hey, What are you doing? You know what movie I want to watch right now? Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. That's kind of weird because I haven't watched that movie since I was a kid. Love you, Me (talk) 05:46, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Gold Greatest Hits.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Gold Greatest Hits.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 06:16, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

What is a secret page anyway? Love you, Me (talk) 06:18, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

For the record, the issue was that the image page did not include a fair use rationale SPECIFIC to its usage in the article in question. See this dif [1] where I fixed the problem. For every image that is copyright BUT it is claimed that violating the copyright qualifies as "fair use", you need to include a detailed fair-use rationale such as I did above. A separate rationale is needed for every article the image is used on, and it must be specific to each article. Hope this helps! --Jayron32|talk|contribs 06:42, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
No problem. Its a somewhat confusing policy that many people miss. There are templates also to help organize a proper "rationale", but you can always add them by hand like I did. Just make sure to add them in the future to any more images that get tagged for deletion, or which you upload, and this shouldn't be a problem again.--Jayron32|talk|contribs 06:48, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

I found your secret page ha!

Hey I found it. So how are you? Love you, Emokid (talk) 06:58, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

I'm glad you're great. I'm feeling oddly peaceful. I wish H was on. This is the only way I can talk to people since I'm grounded and they don't know about it. I'm sorry if I'm bothering you but I don't usually get to talk to anyone outsid school so if I'm annoying you you can tell me to go away if you want. Thanks for the Barnstar, explaination about carpenter's image

Thanks for the barnstar! It was my pleasure to help. One more thing, the image of the Carpenters image on your secret page is that it is copyright image. To claim fair use of a copyright image, it must be shown to be a vital and valid educational usage, such as in an article itself. There is unfortunately no educational usage for such images to appear in a user page. See WP:FU for more information. --Jayron32|talk|contribs 22:10, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Cuyler why am I the way I am? Love you, Emokid 07:33, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

But why? All the stupid things I do are getting on my nerves. Love you, Emokid 07:39, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

There are just some days like today that it's really hard, and those days are coming more and more often lately. Did you know I almost jumped off the roof today? Love you, Emokid 07:44, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

What good am I doing anyone? I'm the most horrible person you could meet. Cuyler I am such a bad influence on you you can't even tell. And Hannah? I've caused her more trouble than I'm worth. But you two still seem to find some joy in being around me and until you guys don't want me anymore I'll be here, trust me. Do you know what stopped me from jumping off the roof? Love you, Emokid 08:09, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Thank you. You don't know how much that means to me. Why am I always thanking you and telling Hannah I'm sorry? You have saved my life more than once, and continue to every day just by being there. For all my saying other people are insecure I'm pretty insecure myself. Anyway, I love you and I wish I could have a hug :( P.S. What would you do if I broke down and cried in front of you? That came up when my mind was wandering in math class today.

Now that I've gotten all of the serious stuff out of the way how was your day? Mr. James is going to have a conference with my dad. He's so... I need to expand my vocabulary of mean words. I can't think of one. Love you, Emokid 08:24, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

So... nice weather huh? Love you, Emokid 08:28, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

I was outside in the rain. It was really fun. Wait, weather is such a corny topic. We should talk about... ummm... No, not video games... not granola bars... How about... Wait, What are your parents like? You talk so much about them and I barely know anything. Love you, Emokid 08:35, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

AWWWW... Your danger button doesn't work! Oh well. I shall go frollic in meadows and do other stuff that pertains to chaos and evil somewhere else. I was so looking forward to that. Love you, Emokid 08:42, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

I did that was the joke I made about your joke because it did not cause mass chaos when I pressed it. My parents are home I have to go to bed. Love you. Love you, Emokid 08:48, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

The Carpenters

Hi Cuyler: I took my first close look at The Carpenters this morning, and have a few suggestions. You should look for another source (other than the Carpenters personal website) which says that they're one of the best-selling acts of all time. (This shouldn't be too hard.) You'll also need to find some reference material for all the comments about what the pair were like growing up. Saying "neighbors said in interviews" will undoubtedly draw fire from FA reviewers.

It's going to take me a while to work my way through all this—I'll work a section at a time, leaving the lead for last—so don't think I've forgotten it. Unfortunately, I'm up to my eyeballs in work in real life, which will curtail my efforts a bit. If you have any questions/comments/complaints about what I'm changing, please be sure to let me know... MeegsC | Talk 09:46, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

I have to write a letter to Nelegan. You're good at being formal any ideas? Love you, Emokid 22:19, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Mr. Nelligan's letter

I'm supposed to write an appology letter for my grades and for blowing him off when he asked me to write a plan for him. I'm also supposed to write a plan to bring my grades up to present to him. Love you, Emokid 23:50, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. It's good to have someone else who knows about this stuff to ask advice from. Here's what I have so far tell me what you think.

Mr. Nelegan, I am sorry for the way I acted in the past week. It was inexcusable and I know it was wrong not to do this sooner. A plan would be a good idea. It would help me organize my thoughts. I shall include one here in case you would still like to read it.

Algebra II: I think math is just a matter of paying closer attention in class and taking better notes. I have been making some bad choices in this class and I think it’s time to turn them around. I’ll go to Mrs. McGowan Monday morning at 8:00 and ask her about the things I don’t understand and I’ll try to ask for extra credit.

NS100a: The only thing I’m doing wrong in science is not turning in homework, so if I do my homework I should get a good grade.

LR100: There is a big test for this class coming up so I need to study my notes. I will go to Mrs. Popov’s study groups at lunch that she is offering for this test, and will ask for any extra credit there is. I will also review my group’s project again to make sure it is “A” material.

FL200a: This is the only class that I can honestly say that my grade is not from laziness. The only thing I can do is study every night instead of every other night and take better notes to study from.

HSS100: It’s just the simple things that are easily fixed that are hindering me here. I didn’t turn in one of my drafts for the only paper we’ve done so far and that really messed my grade up. I also didn’t turn in a couple little homework assignments and a couple little ones takes a big chunk out of my grade.

Again I apologize for my actions and hope we are on better terms in the future. Sincerely, Rebecca McGregor Love you, Emokid 23:58, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

How can you glare like that even through a computer message? Oh, I know what you're saying now. Fine I could ask you or Senora(ah! can't find the ~ for the n!) for help for help. My grade isn't that bad in spanish anyway, it's only a C+. Love you, Emokid 00:11, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Are you mad at me now? Love you, Emokid 00:35, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Adoption

So now that you've adopted me what does that make you? My father? Love you, Emokid 04:53, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Yeah I read the page. It was a joke. So are you my father? Or older brother? I never saw you as a brother. You could be my Uncle I guess, but that makes you sound old. Love you, Emokid 05:18, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Hmmm... I've never been a little sister before. I wonder what it's like. Love you, Emokid 08:44, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

She is getting closer and closer to the knife at her throat and there's nothing I can do about it. One of these days I'm going to snap and she'll be dead. We'll see if she "doesn't have enough time then. She'll have all the time in the world. Love you, Emokid 02:17, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Sorry. I had a mental breakdown and it took all of my willpower not to kill my parents. I was just saying how one of these days I'm going to snap and kill Lori and it won't be my fault. Love you, Emokid 05:32, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Cuyler!!!! *jumps on cuyler and hugs* Did you know you're very huggable? I think I'm delerious but thats okay. Love you, Emokid 05:47, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Is B in gym? Awesome93 20:54, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

You have no rationale. You need to add a fair use rationale to the image page. Edit the image page, and add the following text for EVERY article that is uses the image in question:

Fair use rationale for use in ARTICLENAME

It is believed that the use of this copyright image in the article ARTICLENAME is covered under the guise of fair use because:

  1. The image is low resolution
  2. The use of this image does not hinder the financial rights of the copyright holder
  3. The use of this image is important in the article in question because ENTER A REASON HERE
  4. No equivalent free image can be created because ENTER A REASON HERE

Just cut and paste the above text (edit your talk page, and take the text just as I have written it) and replace the ARTICLE NAME and ENTER A REASON HERE with the specifics for EACH ARTICLE an image is used in (if an image appears in 3 articles, you need 3 separate rationales on the image page). In the future, you need to do this for EVERY copyright image you upload. If you upload a freely availible image (such as a public domain image, or on covered by GFDL or compatible liscences) then you would not need a rationale. --Jayron32|talk|contribs 04:02, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

If you are looking for templates, try here: [2]. Hope that helps. --Jayron32|talk|contribs 07:00, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Please note that there is one major problem the the instructions printed above, they fail to note that the source of the image is also required. The following is a newer version of the fair use statement which can also be use in a copy an paste mannor. Each line must be completed with the exception of "other information" which can be left blank.

{{Non-free use rationale

Aladdin's Lover (talk) 01:16, 12 December 2007 (UTC)why are you depressed? What happened? I'm just tired. Maybe we can get some recording in before 430. First I have to meet with Mr. Rose and then I have to go and see Mr. Nelligan for some help with physics problems. Unless you would like to help me with my physics problem that would be great. Do you understand the physics problems most of the time? I kind of do but not really. Did you know that it still says my name on it even if I don't put the four tildes.

and how do you change the font? I don't know how I can't figure it out.

goodenss gracious I feel like kayleigh! lol.§

Aladdin's Lover (talk) 01:28, 12 December 2007 (UTC) But what if I wanna be different and put my name before my post? ANd thanks for helping with physics. Aladdin's Lover (talk) 01:28, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

I'm afraid to edit pages because they'll probably yell at me for vandalism. Help!--yours truly, Edgar Allen Poe 19:56, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

User:Awesome93

As you have adopted the user I feel I need to tell you what has been going on. The user has been only editing talk pages and his/her userpage. The user is in no trouble but I thought I would tell the user about Wikipedia is not Myspace before the user got into real trouble. I have also pointed the user to two Wikipedia Projects that I feel will interest the user. I meant nothing in Bad Faith my intentions are to help a new user. I had at the time not known you had adopted the user, so I am sorry for not going to you before. I welcome this user and I want the user to feel at home not bastardize and segregated. Rgoodermote  00:13, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

There is no need to be sorry, you have no control of their actions. I am happy to see that she has made an attempt at editing and I hope she continues editing constructively on the mainspace. Rgoodermote  01:06, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

I just finished adding a suggestion to the user. My Chemical Romance Wikproject. Rgoodermote  —Preceding comment was added at 01:15, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

I hope so, well I think you can handle the rest, I trust in your editing skills and on an off-topic note...you are a good singer. Goodnight and happy editing to you. Rgoodermote  01:30, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

User:Cuyler91093#Musical Work I am not even sure that URL will work. I thought you were the singer of a band, unless you are not the singer either way I would buy the CD. Rgoodermote  01:35, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

Knowledge?

I have no knowledge. You know that. Sincerely, Gee 00:57, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

No name

I am upstairs. what do I do on wikipedia? I got in trouble for using it like myspace.

Well, I don't know who you are, so I can't talk to you. --Cuyler91093contributions 02:50, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

I didn't know you adopted Aladdin to! I thought I made it clear the user was not in trouble? Hm, well you can handle this I need to sleep how about we continue our other conversation tomorrow. Rgoodermote  02:05, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

I was enjoying talking to you to, I logged in real quick to see the going ons. No I do not know you. I know you as an editor and from what I am seeing a good editor. My only job here is to make sure that all of Wikipedia's Guidelines are obeyed. When I try and help a user I do not do a typical warning I tend to extend my hand in a sign of peace. I try to make it seem like I know them. In this case I figured that the user Aladdin was upset and if I continued to interact with the user it would probably get ugly, I had no former knowledge of the user other than there was no mainspace edits and I treated the user in a manner befitting the case. As this user has just recently joined (started to edit) I made it clear to the user that they were not in trouble and that I was simply trying to help. When I came here to say good bye and reply I saw that Aladdin had asked you what to do. So instead of interfering more I decided to say goodbye to you. I in my tired state made a reference to how surprising it was that you had adopted so many users, to my knowledge you have the most adopted users. I wish I knew you when I was a new user if I had I would have found my path faster and probably not so roughly. In the middle I simply wanted to let you know that I had taken the time tell the user that s/he was not in trouble at all. The last bit was basically me saying I didn't want to get involved with the user as I felt I was not doing a good job at helping the user as it seemed the user was getting more upset every time I tried to explain something to him/her so I didn't want to get to the point were it became. The last bit is that I didn't want to end the other conversation abruptly so I was going to finish it tomorrow, I feel it rude to just end in the middle of something. I am sorry if you feel I was stepping over a boundary and I meant nothing by it. My intentions were simply to help several Wikipedians with no direction this does not include you and this was before I knew you had adopted them. I apologize for anything I have done that may have upset you. I really hope my apology is acceptable as I can truly tell you from the bottom of my heart that this apology was written with great thought and care I have read and re-read the message and made sure not single bit of my meaning was lost and in honesty this is the longest apology I have ever written and I hope you accept it. I also apologize for repeating myself over and over again. Rgoodermote  02:51, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

I as well had to learn myself, and I never forgot the lesson. Rgoodermote  11:50, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

I didn't attack him! I was merely pointing out an error in his message so he could fix it. My message was very polite. I even spelled out 'by the way' instead of writing btw.--yours truly, Edgar Allen Poe 20:25, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

It was polite, and thanks for pointing that out. Mozilla's spell check only knows so much(directed to awesome and you cuyler). I bid you guys farewell. Rgoodermote  22:11, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

I am honored to have met you as well. May the rest of your days be filled with cheer, good bye until next time.Rgoodermote  22:39, 13 December 2007 (UTC) Rgoodermote  22:39, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

RE:Blackout

There is no need to be sorry, Blackout simply made a mistake...a rather bad one but a mistake none the less. I am hoping that the user will come back and though marked a vandal will use those brands as a reason to improve instead of hurting the project. I wish him the best of luck in this grand experiment known as Wikipedia. Rgoodermote  23:28, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

sunday???

so i am taking the C around 11:50 and maybe you can get on it arond 12:00 to 12:12.You never know with the bus! The schedule only showed me one stop in Nanakuli, so i am really don't know which one it could be. 13aquamarine (talk) 07:52, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi Cuyler: I don't think it's quite there yet—it still needs a thorough copyedit, for instance—but I do think it's on its way. One thing that may become an issue: there is now a lot of material about things before and after the band's existence. Looking at other A/FA band articles, I don't see others with "Childhood" sections, for example. You might at least tighten up that section (which has grown from two short paragraphs to more than five, including a completely unnecessary block quote), and the Spectrum/Trio section. A lot of this expanded info is probably be better treated in Richard and Karen's individual biographies. But don't just take my word for this—I may be completely off base! You should definitely ask someone in WP:Music for comment, as they'll have a far better understanding of what good FA band articles need. Keep me posted; and I'll keep working on the various copyedit issues as I get the chance. I didn't want to tinker too much while you were still writing! Feel free to contact the WP:LoCE as well; I won't be at all insulted if you'd like to get this sorted in a faster manner than I'm able to! : ) MeegsC | Talk 13:18, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

All I know is that the code I used for my page was..... {| width="97%" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="10" style="background-color:#f8fcff; border-style:none; border-width:30px; border-color:blue;" |align="center" width="100%" style="border-style:solid; border-width:3; border-color:darkred; background-color:black;color:#000000;"|<center>[[image:Qxz-ad2.gif]]</center> |- | <div style="padding: 10px; background: #FFFAF0;<!--#ddcef2;--> border-style: groove; border-width: 10px; border-color: darkred; font-size: 95%; text-align:left; text-align: justify; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"> {| align="center"} {| cellpadding=3 cellspacing=0 style="float:right; text-align:center; border:solid 1px black; background:rgb(230,245,230);margin=50" |- <div style="margin-top:0px;"> </div> <div style="background-color: #FFFAF0"> <table width="95%" bgcolor="#FFFAF0" style="background-color: "#FFFAF0" border="0" rules="none"> <tr bgcolor="#FFFAF0" valign="left" align="left"> <td align="left">__TOC__</td><td align="right"> </td><td align="right"></td> </tr></table> </div>

I'm assuming that you can add the same to your page, but change the color to your preference, and you should be set. ~ Bella Swan 22:47, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

OHHH! Ooops. I thought you meant how to have the border of your page colored, erase and ignore the above message, unless you do want to have what I have on my page, but I'll test some thing out and see what I can do. It shouldn't take that long.... :) ~ Bella Swan
Ummm, have you already fixed it? Because I just tested it, and if you just put <div style="font-family: Trebuchet MS"> at the top of the page, (which you have), it should work..... ~ Bella Swan 23:24, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, it originally was IamHermionie (for my love of HP), but I then found Twilight, and loved it. I recently actually took the time to apply for a name change, and succeded. (even though everyone already knew me as Bella. :P) ~ Bella Swan 22:06, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
I think I'm going to go for 50 welcomes on your good deeds thing. That was an awesome idea! :) ~ Bella Swan 22:16, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
I'll give you a surprise then. :) Which one do you think you'll do? ~ Bella Swan 22:42, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks! I think I'll come up with an award for welcoming, if there isn't already one.... ~ Bella Swan 22:49, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Christmas in Brazil, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Christmas in Brazil is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Christmas in Brazil, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Hey

Before they come to you and tell you I thought I would tell you that out of concern for them I have tried again to get them to edit on the mainspace. I continue to see their names pop-up on VP and I am a little worried some one else will notice and report them, I will not no matter what I say. Rgoodermote  01:52, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Oops sorry I thought I put the names up,

I have taken a liken to them and I am worried their continued misuse of Wikipedia will get them into trouble. I decided as Awesome93 has continued contact with me to see how they were doing with their contributing. I noticed none, the only one who seemed to make an attempt was Awesome93. I as you already understand only report this to you because of your seniority and as they are in continued contact with you. I thought about adopting one of them. But I do not know which one you have adopted (I shouldn't say I do not know I know one of them but not all). Rgoodermote  02:32, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

How-to

Speaking of adopting, how do you become part of the program. I was just reading the projects page and I couldn't figure out how to become and adopter. Funny how I give advice and now I need it. Rgoodermote  02:40, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, I would have been sitting there for hours reading that, I guess I will try and adopt 13aquamarine. Lets hope I can get her editing. Rgoodermote  03:08, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
Lol, goodnight and again I hope you well. Rgoodermote  03:12, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Per response here to question here I have hopefully adopted User:13aquamarine. I believe that she answered my adoption request with a vague but positive yes. Thank you for helping me with the adoption process and I noticed she was a hopeful for you. I am sorry I did not notice that until after the tag was placed. Rgoodermote  22:44, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Still vague but still taken as a positive yes, thanks. That was not meant to be taken as a rude comment by the way. I was just saying that though there was a grammar correction the user still was vague in her response. Rgoodermote  23:18, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
