In connection with the Transnistrian election of 2020, I cited a Russian newspaper that indicated the existence of allegations of electoral fraud. There were similar sources on the Transnistrian election of 2021. The problem is that some such newspaper articles disappear after a while and that I was not able to find the source in which I read about such fraud several years ago. The only Transnistrian presidential election in relation to which there were no allegations of electoral fraud was the one of 2011. Please look at the discrepancy between the last opinion poll before the 2016 presidential election and the actual results in the article on the 2016 election. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2603:6013:7D40:BE00:4909:9A31:F95D:5D1 (talk) 15:20, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Neutral does not mean what you think it does

[edit]

If you think that using people who push far right conspiracy theories and LITERALLY ARGUE IN PUBLIC FOR ETHNIC CLEANSING are "neutral" sources, then I have absolutely nothing to say to you beyond urging you to become acquainted with the English language so you can learn what "neutral" means. Unless, of course, you are simply so far right that a man who says Israel should expel and/or kill all Arabs is "moderate" to you, and therefore acceptable. It is hard to tell on this cesspool of a website. 73.25.104.248 (talk) 19:47, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It does not matter whether or not the source itself for information is neutral as long as it doesn't alter the facts of a situation and the opinions that conveys are attributed directly to them (as opposed to the article itself). If you can find reasonable and proven evidence (as opposed to speculation) of those sources not being reliable or deliberately making errors from a source other than yourself and that is reliable, then the removal of the content would likely be seen as justified by other editors. However, considering how you have been removing the content solely due to speculation about the writers' reliability, discussing the matter on the article's talk page would be a better option. I've noticed how you edit warred after my reversion; in the future, please make sure to discuss any controversial edits on the talk page of an article instead of continuing to revert. Please also do not immediately suspect users of trying to push a POV if they revert you, since doing so is considered to be assuming bad faith. That Tired TarantulaBurrow 20:26, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You seriously don't even know who any of these people are, do you? Benny Morris helped invent the term ethnic cleansing and then spent his entire adult life arguing it should be done the Palestinians. This is well known and clear, even from his own Wikipedia page which quotes him in depth. If you don't care about that, and still think he's reliable, then I have to question your intent at that point.
It makes no difference to me if you defend fascists out of ignorance or ideology, the end result is still the same. 73.25.104.248 (talk) 20:40, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I read their Wikipedia pages after your reverts, so I get how you're concerned about that. But I am not involved with the article itself and don't know much about the situation; I'm just trying uphold the site guidelines. I'm not trying to support anyone or any idea. Anyways, please just head to the Talk of that article so that you can discuss the content with editors who'll have more insights about it and who have contributed more to the article. That Tired TarantulaBurrow 20:47, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Have you ever considered that this site's guidelines might uphold a toxic status quo which treats the vile, disgusting ideas of men like Benny Morris as "neutral" and "reasonable" simply because he had enough money and fame to get them published in a book? 73.25.104.248 (talk) 20:49, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ehh, kinda. Still doesn't change how you have no solid evidence from a reliable source for any of the people mentioned on the page lying. The neutrality of an idea itself doesn't matter as long as an article doesn't express it in its own voice. Please just head to the talk page of that article; I will not be discussing this more. That Tired TarantulaBurrow 20:56, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently the fact that I've been a government employee since the Clinton Administration means I'm "a fascist".   –Skywatcher68 (talk) 21:56, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(To the IP, please don't make more personal attacks, especially if they have to do with stuff outside of here. Doesn't help with articles; please just focus on the content.) That Tired TarantulaBurrow 22:15, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Abkhazia

[edit]

i'm from abkhazia. Abkhazia is not a recognized state it is a defacto state so calling a so-called state of abkhazia is not a mistake. De jure abkhazia belongs to georgia and the un Agrees! so my correction on the flag of abkhazia page isn't incorrect. the so-called state of Abkhazia is recognized by 6 countries only — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rexvo (talkcontribs) 16:34, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, I'm assuming that you made an edit that I reverted on November 23 to Flag of Abkhazia using the IP address 212.58.120.4; thank you for clarifying, but the Wikipedia page already specifies that the Republic of Abkhazia is partially recognized and self-declared. Whether or not the Republic of Abkhazia is an independent state also appears to be disputed, since what the UN says is not the ultimate authority on whether or not it is an independent state (especially since six countries recognize it), so adding in "so-called" appears subjective (Wikipedia requires everything to be neutral); therefore, I do not believe that the extra clarification is necessary. For future reference, you can sign your name by adding four tildes (the ~ symbol) in a row. Also, welcome to Wikipedia! Here are some pages that might be helpful for learning more about editing:
Feel free to ask me any questions about basic editing on my talk page (I am only saying basic editing because I have only a moderate amount of knowledge on Wikipedia's guidelines due to the limited amount of time in which I have been an editor; you can get more help with more advanced editing concepts, guidelines, and procedures by viewing pages in the complete Manual of Style and by asking editors questions at the Teahouse or the Help desk—note that the Teahouse is mainly designed and recommended for new editors). I hope that helps! That Tired Tarantula (talk) 17:19, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Disruptive editing

[edit]

It is extremely disruptive to undo edits that you haven't even bothered to look at. An account three months old that does nothing but revert and warn people and doesn't bother to read the edits it is reverting looks like someone who is not here to build an encyclopaedia. 94.119.32.5 (talk) 07:33, 1 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I did look at your edit, and sure, some of that content didn't have a source right by it, but your edit summary made it seem like you thought you were reverting that content just because you didn't want or care about it being on there. Reverting edits that do not appear constructive is simply how I prefer to contribute the majority of the time; I also do some page tagging and copy editing. Anyways, please at least try to find a source for something before getting rid of it, and provide a non-subjective reason for removing encyclopedic content if you do so. That Tired Tarantula (talk) 08:00, 1 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Why is it that you keep reverting back to text with incorrect and outdated information on the page we're trying to fix? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:14F:8380:1E40:1E:4687:2C92:AB67 (talk) 13:26, 9 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm assuming that you're referring to reverts I made on Łukasz Kuropaczewski; I already explained these in a comment and subsequent replies in Łukasz Kuropaczewski's user Talk page, 2601:14F:8380:1E40:19D0:C272:9A14:CE06's Talk page, and in the summary of this edit. The problem with outdated material also appears to have been fixed as of now. That Tired Tarantula (talk) 15:44, 9 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Speaking of reverting vandalism... do you want to apply for rollback rights so you can use more advanced countervandalism tools such as Huggle and AntiVandal or for pending changes reviewer rights so you can accept edits to pending changes protected pages? Best, ~ Prodraxis (Merry Christmas!) 01:30, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I might, but I've decided to look more into what applying for rollback rights involves first. Thanks again! That Tired Tarantula (talk) 01:49, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your reversion on Canadian Pacific Railway

[edit]

Hi there, I just wanted to be the one to tell you that I undid your reversion on the Canadian Pacific Railway. You undid a revision that I found to be faithful to the original source. However, I will add attribution ("According to...") to the source. Please let me know if you have any objections. RetroCosmos (talk) 06:02, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for notifying me; sorry, it seemed disruptive at first because I was patrolling Recent Changes and just trying to see if there was any disruption in general, and out of context, the edit resembled some nonconstructive things I've seen in different articles in the past, causing me to decide to revert it quickly. I will make sure not to repeat similar mistakes in the future. Also, thank you for adding the attribution. That Tired Tarantula (talk) 07:58, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's okay, we've all made mistakes (I've definitely made more than a few). I did notice the source was not as reliable as I'd like as it was a historical reenactment. So in the end it actually improved the article. RetroCosmos (talk) 02:58, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to the 2024 WikiCup!

[edit]

Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2024 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor you should be able to advance to at least the second round, improving your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page. Signups will close on 31 January, and the first round will end on 26 February; the 64 highest scorers at that time will move on to round 2. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), and Frostly (talk · contribs · email). Good luck! Hi, I saw this in passing - please first try to contact the editor in question at either User talk:Dreimouse in an nutshell, or at the talk page of the article at Talk:2023 Spanish protests & be sure to ping them. The first step should be to try to communicate rather than request page protection for a content dispute. Schrödinger's jellyfish 20:41, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
On your behalf, I've posted on their talk page. You can also reply to them here at Talk:2023_Spanish_protests#Change_of_title, where another editor has raised similar concerns about a lack of reliable sources for the continuation of the protest. Schrödinger's jellyfish 20:46, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Um...okay, then? Sorry, I'm not an admin, so I can't protect anything. This looks like a content dispute about a specific article; if so, please try to use the article's Talk page to discuss the article's content there (and as Schrodinger's jellyfish said, yes, ping the user(s) involved) instead of heading to the Talk pages of users uninvolved with the conflict to discuss page protection before any formal edit warring has happened. Also, for future reference, you can add links to edit differences by copying their urls and putting them in brackets (but just single brackets).
I'd also like to thank Schrodinger's jellyfish for the advice. :) That Tired TarantulaBurrow 20:52, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your reversion on Reneé Rapp

[edit]

Hi, you recently reverted the addition of categories on Reneé Rapp due to suspected vandalism. There is an extension discussion on her talk page around her recent announcements regarding her sexuality; after reviewing WP:BLP and Perennial websites, I updated Rapp's page (with sources) to reflect her identity as a lesbian, so I think the adjustment of categories done by User:Redandsymmetry were justified and not vandalism. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bklibcat67 (talkcontribs) 20:32, 23 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Okay. Sorry, I didn't realize, since I got confused due to a section of the article still saying that she was bisexual; thanks for helping to update it. That Tired TarantulaBurrow 22:06, 23 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

And Then There Were None

[edit]

Hi,

I saw you recently reverted vandalism on this TV show "and then there were none" article? I just tried to go there from the article on Toby Stephens out of curiosity and saw nothing but a page redirect someone (with an existing vandalism warning as the sole post on their talk page...) put in a few hours ago without discussion first. I vaguely recall that being a big no-no. I thought looking at the series' page history you were maybe the person to notify about the unilateral page move?

Aside from the random copy edit once or twice a year I don't engage much, so this isn't something I can really address if it is an issue. Have a good evening, or day, or whatever it is for you! Goddale120 (talk) 03:43, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Okay. Sorry, I was patrolling Recent Changes and just stumbled on the page and reverted some minor vandalism on it; I didn't know about any page moves happening. I also looked at the page's history, and noticed the recent page move; I think that the move may have been done either because the editor who did it either believed that the term is always "TV series" in the UK or hadn't seen the word "serial" used in this context. Either way, I will be notifying the editor who moved the page most recently on their Talk page about discussing page moves before making them. I will also make sure to fix the double redirect. And thanks. :) That Tired TarantulaBurrow 06:10, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2024 February newsletter

[edit]

The 2024 WikiCup is off to a flying start, with 135 participants. This is the largest number of participants we have seen since 2017.

Our current leader is newcomer Generalissima (submissions), who has one FA on John Littlejohn (preacher) and 10 GAs and 12 DYKs mostly on New Zealand coinage and Inuit figures. Here are some more noteworthy scorers:

As a reminder, competitors may submit work for the first round until 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February, and the second round starts 1 March. Remember that only the top 64 scoring competitors will make it through to the second round; currently, competitors need at least 15 points to progress. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAN, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges (Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), Epicgenius (talk · contribs), and Frostly (talk · contribs)) are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. WikiCup 2024 March newsletter

[edit]

The first round of the 2024 WikiCup ended at 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February. Everyone with at least 30 points moved on to Round 2, the highest number of points required to advance to the second round since 2014. Due to a six-way tie for the 64th-place spot, 67 contestants have qualified for Round 2.

The following scorers in Round 1 all scored more than 300 points:

In this newsletter, the judges would like to pay a special tribute to Vami_IV (submissions), who unfortunately passed away this February. At the time of his death, he was the second-highest-scoring competitor. Outside the WikiCup, he had eight other featured articles, five A-class articles, eight other good articles, and two Four Awards. Vami also wrote an essay on completionism, a philosophy in which he deeply believed. If you can, please join us in honoring his memory by improving one of the articles on his to-do list.

Remember that any content promoted after 27 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. RFA2024 update: no longer accepting new proposals in phase I

[edit]

Hey there! This is to let you know that phase I of the 2024 requests for adminship (RfA) review is now no longer accepting new proposals. Lots of proposals remain open for discussion, and the current round of review looks to be on a good track towards making significant progress towards improving RfA's structure and environment. I'd like to give my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has given us their idea for change to make RfA better, and the same to everyone who has given the necessary feedback to improve those ideas. The following proposals remain open for discussion:

  • Proposal 2, initiated by HouseBlaster, provides for the addition of a text box at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship reminding all editors of our policies and enforcement mechanisms around decorum.
  • Proposals 3 and 3b, initiated by Barkeep49 and Usedtobecool, respectively, provide for trials of discussion-only periods at RfA. The first would add three extra discussion-only days to the beginning, while the second would convert the first two days to discussion-only.
  • Proposal 5, initiated by SilkTork, provides for a trial of RfAs without threaded discussion in the voting sections.
  • Proposals 6c and 6d, initiated by BilledMammal, provide for allowing users to be selected as provisional admins for a limited time through various concrete selection criteria and smaller-scale vetting.
  • Proposal 7, initiated by Lee Vilenski, provides for the "General discussion" section being broken up with section headings.
  • Proposal 9b, initiated by Reaper Eternal, provides for the requirement that allegations of policy violation be substantiated with appropriate links to where the alleged misconduct occured.
  • Proposals 12c, 21, and 21b, initiated by City of Silver, Ritchie333, and HouseBlaster, respectively, provide for reducing the discretionary zone, which currently extends from 65% to 75%. The first would reduce it 65%–70%, the second would reduce it to 50%–66%, and the third would reduce it to 60%–70%.
  • Proposal 13, initiated by Novem Lingaue, provides for periodic, privately balloted admin elections.
  • Proposal 14, initiated by Kusma, provides for the creation of some minimum suffrage requirements to cast a vote.
  • Proposals 16 and 16c, initiated by Thebiguglyalien and Soni, respectively, provide for community-based admin desysop procedures. 16 would desysop where consensus is established in favor at the administrators' noticeboard; 16c would allow a petition to force reconfirmation.
  • Proposal 16e, initiated by BilledMammal, would extend the recall procedures of 16 to bureaucrats.
  • Proposal 17, initiated by SchroCat, provides for "on-call" admins and 'crats to monitor RfAs for decorum.
  • Proposal 18, initiated by theleekycauldron, provides for lowering the RfB target from 85% to 75%.
  • Proposal 24, initiated by SportingFlyer, provides for a more robust alternate version of the optional candidate poll.
  • Proposal 25, initiated by Femke, provides for the requirement that nominees be extended-confirmed in addition to their nominators.
  • Proposal 27, initiated by WereSpielChequers, provides for the creation of a training course for admin hopefuls, as well as periodic retraining to keep admins from drifting out of sync with community norms.
  • Proposal 28, initiated by HouseBlaster, tightens restrictions on multi-part questions.

To read proposals that were closed as unsuccessful, please see Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/2024 review/Phase I/Closed proposals. You are cordially invited once again to participate in the open discussions; when phase I ends, phase II will review the outcomes of trial proposals and refine the implementation details of other proposals. Another notification will be sent out when this phase begins, likely with the first successful close of a major proposal. Happy editing! theleekycauldron (talk • she/her), via:

Regarding my edit at Peter Brown (historian)

[edit]

That wasn't a test edit (did you read the following dummy edit comment?). The MediaWiki parser gets confused when newlines are inserted or removed adjacent to space changes in lists. It's not easy to prove, so I won't revert you wholesale, though I might add whitespace to get the citations to wrap in the edit window or something like that. I mostly expand and format reference metadata, which I intend to do with that article. 73.37.211.177 (talk) 01:15, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I used RedWarn and I didn't notice your previous edit earlier, so I automatically reverted both edits. Sorry for the inconvenience. That Tired TarantulaBurrow 01:46, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Keeping the wiki protected is commendable. 73.37.211.177 (talk) 02:32, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2024 April newsletter

[edit]

We are approaching the end of the 2024 WikiCup's second round, with a little over two weeks remaining. Currently, contestants must score at least 105 points to progress to the third round.

Our current top scorers are as follows:

Competitors may submit work for the second round until the end of 28 April, and the third round starts 1 May. Remember that only competitors with the top 32 scores will make it through to the third round. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAN, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs. As a reminder, competitors are strictly prohibited from gaming Wikipedia policies or processes to receive more points.

If you would like to learn more about rules and scoring for the 2024 WikiCup, please read Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring. Further questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges (Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), Epicgenius (talk · contribs), and Frostly (talk · contribs)) are reachable on their talk pages. Speedy deletion nomination of Naenae SC

[edit]

Hello @That Tired Tarantula,

I appretiate your response on the talk page for Naenae SC. While you're right that the article does come off as promotional, I think that it would be reasonable to allow me to adjust the article providing more informational facts about this football club instead of promotional aspects.

Appreciatively,

Loganmascarenhas Loganmascarenhas (talk) 22:20, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Sorry, I didn't see this earlier.
As of now, the article has been deleted. However, you can create it again as long as Naenae SC has in-depth coverage written by multiple independent and reliable sources and the content is supported by those sources and written from a neutral point of view. I'll be happy to help you out if you'd like to recreate the article or if you have any questions. :) That Tired TarantulaBurrow 04:26, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2024 May newsletter

[edit]

The second round of the 2024 WikiCup ended on 28 April. This round was particularly competitive: each of the 32 contestants who advanced to Round 3 scored at least 141 points. This is the highest number of points required to advance to Round 3 since 2014.

The following scorers in Round 2 all scored more than 500 points:

The full scores for Round 2 can be seen here. So far this year, competitors have gotten 18 featured articles, 22 featured lists, and 186 good articles, 76 in the news credits and at least 200 did you know credits. They have conducted 165 featured article reviews, as well as 399 good article reviews and peer reviews, and have added 21 articles to featured topics and good topics.

Remember that any content promoted after 28 April but before the start of Round 3 can be claimed during Round 3, which starts on 1 May at 00:00 (UTC). Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. The third round of the 2024 WikiCup ended on 28 June. As with Round 2, this round was competitive: each of the 16 contestants who advanced to Round 4 scored at least 256 points.

The following editors all scored more than 400 points in Round 3:

The full scores for round 3 can be seen here. So far this year, competitors have gotten 28 featured articles, 38 featured lists, 240 good articles, 92 in the news credits, and at least 285 did you know credits. They have conducted 279 featured article reviews, as well as 492 good article reviews and peer reviews, and have added 22 articles to featured topics and good topics.

Hi TTT, I've had a look at reviewing your recent nomination to Good Article, and noticed its reliance on newspapers. I can see a whole book was published this year on the painting. Given it is (understandably) in Italian, it will be somewhat difficult to access, although I can see it is carried by quite a few libraries, particularly in Europe. As an alternative, there is this publication, which appears to be a selection of some of the essays the book consists of. You can request access to this on the linked website. In lieu of both of these, the Italian press seems to be better at discussing the coverage, i.e. see here which discusses the piece being x-rayed (or rather, not) among other things.

I'm sure more can be found, and more academic discussion could be found by engaging with Italian sources. At this point, without some engagement with these works, I could not pass the article as broad in coverage, so I hope this stuff helps. Rollinginhisgrave (talk) 15:59, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the providing the links to the publications; unfortunately, I don't think that I'll be able to access the first two, since I do not live in Europe and don't speak Italian. I was able to look at the last link, but it seemed to be more of an opinion piece about the quality of the work's display, so I don't really know how I'd incorporate it. I didn't mean to cause any recentism by only using sources from the news; those were the only independent sources that I could find and access while I was making the article. After looking more online today, there's a couple more pieces of information that I could add, but they're also in news articles. Thanks for the input; I'll try to add more to the article today.
