Spirit of Truth

[edit]

You obviously know Wikipedia regulations well. I understand that information listed must be factual. That's fine. Let's assume for a second that you believe my claims. How can we go about making the information "reliable?" I'm trying to work w/ you here.

We're not pulling some hoax, and people should know that they can receive new, legit information when using us as a source.

Would a radio interview be sufficient? --Orangeade 19:40, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'll take your suggestion, and we can just see what others have to say. Understand that we can provide essentially anything you would require for proof. The "new" phenomenon of the SoT is just beginning, so there is no concrete proof - outside of us - at this point. Plus, I'm not familiar w/ Wikipedia's standards, so this is all new to me. I don't fault you for being skeptical; I fully understand the desire for reliable information. So, let's give it a few days and we'll review other's opinions. --Orangeade 21:27, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You tagged the above article as being a candidate for speedy deletion through the A7 criterion. Note that the criterion only allows deletion if the article fails to make an assertion of importance or significance. Since the article states that the subject was a vice-president of CompuServe, participated in the development of one of the first public offerings of the Internet industry, was president and CEO of AdKnowledge and that he now heads the San Francisco-based digital-magazine service provider Zinio I removed the tag. Hope that clarifies. Steve block Talk 00:41, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I wasn't able to Google to verify the Compuserve claim, which I presume is the main "claim to fame"; the article is unreferenced. --Takeel 00:45, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No, they are all assertions of significance. You may dispute them, but they assert significance and so the article does not meet the criterion you attempted to speedy it under, which states that no assertion of importance or significance is made. The article may well have been unreferenced, but that doesn't make it qualify as a speedy deletion. If you feel an article is not merited on a subject, but it does not meet a speedy criterion, I would suggest proposed deletion instead. Hope that helps you. Your recent request for Checkuser

[edit]

You recently compiled and listed a case at requests for checkuser. A checkuser or clerk has requested you supply one or more diffs to justify the use of the checkuser procedure in the case, in accordance with the procedures listed in the table at the top of the requests for checkuser page. For an outcome to be achieved, we require that you provide these diffs as soon as possible. This has been implemented to reduce difficulties for checkusers, and is essential for your case to be processed. A link to your recently-created case which has this information missing is here. Thanks for your co-operation. Daniel.Bryant T · C ] 22:04, 10 November 2006 (UTC), checkuser clerk.[reply]

You tagged Goldcorp for speedy deletion. That company is part of a stock market index, S&P/TSX 60, which means that the company passes WP:CORP. --TruthbringerToronto (Talk | contribs) 15:41, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, there. I tagged the article with db-advert because it read hopelessly like an advertisement, but I notice that you fixed it somewhat. I was aware that the company's stock was part of an index. --Takeel 15:56, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion on Appalachia, Virginia article.

[edit]

Hello, You should not have removed the link: www.appalachiava.net, from the article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appalachia,_Virginia, because that is the town's official website. If you believe that is false information, you can contact the town's manager. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.171.5.72 (talkcontribs) .

Good day. I don't mean to sound terse here, but the burden of proof does not lie upon me. If you'll have a look at the article's talk page, you'll see that the link has already been discussed. --Takeel 03:49, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Takeel, I am the one who has added the links for Middlesell to the UMW, JMU, and VT wikipedia pages. I do not consider the links to these pages to be spam. This is especially true in the case of the UMW website, URL middlesell. This website has grown into a student-run, student-used website. We have an average of 2,000 UMW students a day (this is about 50% of the Fredericksburg Campus population of 2,000). The site originated here, in Fredericksburg, and is not a "spam site" and is run by a few college kids here. Furthermore, we maintain a very close relationship with the University's IT & University Relations staff, and have received their (albeit unnecessary) blessing.

We like the concept of our site because it localizes the internet to specific college campuses, and so we are in the process of launching it at other schools. There are nearly zero users at both the Tech and JMU sites. If you feel that it is not appropriate for the links to these sites to exist on those pages, I respect that. However, in the case of the University of Mary Washington page, I politely insist that it be left alone--especially if links to the radio station (it does not broadcast and is not on campus domain) as well as to UMW Underground (ditto) are allowed to remain.

Please contact me if you have any problem with this, I am perfectly willing to discuss it.

Thank you, Bobby UMW Student (Class of 2009) Middlesell dot com —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Analyzethis (talkcontribs) .

Hi, Bobby. The reason I removed your link is because I agree with the community stance that Wikipedia is not for advertising websites. It looks like others agree with me because I'm not the only person who removed links to middlesell.com. If you'd like to pursue this further, you might check here or here for good first steps. Thank you. --Takeel 03:04, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'd say it's linkspam. The website appears to be nothing more than a blog. Metros232 04:16, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. Spam. SchuminWeb (Talk) 07:22, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Takeel, you have no idea what you're talking about. If our site is not "allowed" to be linked on the University of Mary Washington page, why are the other two (UMW Underground and WMWC Radio)? Also, whoever referred to the site as "nothing more than a blog" is thoroughly incorrect. You do not attend the University of Mary Washington, and you do not use this web site. It is a resource that one half of our school utilizes on a daily basis. This is not link spam. Please do not discriminate against our site just because we don't have "UMW" in our domain name. End of story. Analyzethis 18:29, 18 November 2006 (UTC)Bobby[reply]

I am moving this section to the article talk page so more discussion can be had. Metros232 02:49, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Takeel, you had asked me a question a long time ago and I replied (on my own "user talk" page). However, since I'm clueless about many things in Wikipedia, I don't know if you ever saw my reply. Was I supposed to copy your question and post it, along with my reply, here on your "user talk" page? Sorry for the newbie question :). Is there a FAQ or tutorial that explains the standard practices? Thanks in advance. Esteban666 08:46, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Esteban. As far as a FAQ/tutorial goes, you might check this out for a great start. I apologize for not replying back to you sooner. --Takeel 22:21, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi :). I should have clarified: I am looking for a FAQ on "User Talk", specifically. :) Esteban666 09:51, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You might find what you'd like to know over at Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines. --Takeel 18:32, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome! This is precisely what I was looking for. Thanks :) Esteban666 04:19, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tom Green Live

[edit]

Why delete the show list? I have been an early contributor. Are you not s fan of Tom Green, his "goofballism" and the channel? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Socby19 (talkcontribs) .

Hi, Socby19. That list is rather long, so it might work better in its own article. Removing the list is also an option to consider. --Takeel 02:54, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Did that yesterday SocBy19

Several of my edit summaries explained the problem (like this) if you had looked at my contribution history. 71.231.107.188 20:34, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Response

[edit]

Hey, in response to your message, I understand your concern, but I don't see it as an issue. The action that users take offense to is not the act of removing messages but of ignoring and deleting them. I always either reply to my messages or, if its something I can easily fix, take action. So if I was being an asshole- and I do know that there are people like this on Wikipedia -and disregarding messages, then I'd be a "vandal" (although I personally would not see him as one, I'd just see him as a stubborn ass). However, my only reason for deleting messages is to keep myself organized. It's kind of like a worked having an inbox and outbox at his desk. The talk page is my inbox, where things that need to be done are kept. The history page is the outbox, a record of what I have done. That's the way I see it, maybe you are different about it, but regardless, if I was blocked, someone would be overstepping their boundaries. VitaleBaby 18:05, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

On Cleaning up Paxus Calta

[edit]

Hello Takeel:

Like you, i was a bit surprised to see Majorly's decision to end the discussion on deleting the Paxus calta entry. Unlike you, i am quite new to the Wikipedia culture and norms. There were several problems with this article, as you pointed out, and they were almost exclusively my fault. i used this article as a way to learn about wikipedia, getting told by administrators that i needed to reduce the number of external links, having gone thru an earlier AfD challenge, and so on.

It did end up (before your AfD call) having a vanity page feel to it. After your AdF challenge i made a number of edits to try to rectify these concerns (pulling the quotes section, removing the hardest to verify elements, removing a second picture, the section on my complicated name, etc). My point here is that while you may not have gotten exactly what you wanted, for the article is still in place, it is a better, more encyclopedic piece as a function of your challange - and i thank you for that.

And, if you are not feed up with the whole affair, i would welcome other recommendations you have for clean up the article as it stands now. Paxuscalta 12:49, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

[edit]

Dearest Takeel:

i appreciate your note and i am glad that the anti-vanity edits seemed sufficient to you. i also appreciate your attitude around AfD process. If only consensus could rule in the world at large. Be Well. Paxuscalta 16:46, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

University of Virginia's College at Wise edits

[edit]

Takeel,

I updated the page for The University of Virginia's College at Wise yesterday by adding our current official logo, and official, referenced facts from the College's fact page. I also made redirects for common search terms for the College (including UVa-Wise and Clinch Valley College). Since then, you have deleted my edits, including the updated logo, deleted the redirects, and reverted the page to its former state.

I'm sure that you can check these facts and the legitimacy of the edits and the logo (which was taken from the official website) by e-mailing or calling the College's Office of College Relations.

I believe the edits made yesterday are the true facts that UVa-Wise would appreciate having on their Wikipedia page. I'm new to editing Wikipedia, so if you can offer advice for how to proceed with the edits I tried to implement yesterday, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Rhagy, Wed., Feb. 14, 2007, 10:00 a.m.

I have given the "Nature & Outdoor Rec" section a great big edit. Here's hoping that this will please all involved. I will continue to keep the article & talk page watchlisted, and am willing to help in discussions about possbile additions to that section. -- Pastordavid 16:35, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mpritchard80 has not edited since I made the change, and looking at his/her edit history there is no telling whether he/she will be back in a week or six months. Oh well. Thanks for using the process of consensus rather than edit warring -- it makes a better encyclopedia, and makes editing fun instead of work when we can work together. I'll keep the page watchlisted. -- Pastordavid 19:08, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Likewise, thank you. --Takeel 04:24, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Town of Appalachia.

[edit]

Greetings: Takeel, I don't think it's right for you to be removing the Town of Appalachia's official website link from the Appalachia, Virginia article. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.171.13.93 (talkcontribs).

Good day. The website at that URL did not have any content when it was removed. It's probably not a good idea for Wikipedia to link to empty websites. --Takeel 01:32, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Big Stone Gap, VA Article.

[edit]

Takeel, You shouldn't have deleted the section that says Film Logger C.C. Swiney grew up in the town. The burden of proof lies upon you. You have no knowledge of Big Stone Gap, Virginia. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.171.13.93 (talkcontribs).

Good day. Actually, I looked up this individual and noted that he/she was indeed a tape logger for a television production. However, this position is not particularly influential in a production. --Takeel 01:34, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Appalachia, Virginia" Article.

Proposed deletion of The Escal Institute of Advanced Technologies

[edit]

The article The Escal Institute of Advanced Technologies has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Wikipedia:General notability guideline and the more detailed Wikipedia:Notability (companies) requirement. If you disagree and deprod this, please explain how it meets them on the talk page in the form of "This article meets criteria A and B because..." and ping me back. Thank you,

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
