Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, T A Consultants. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Draft:Sandbox, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Acroterion (talk) 13:00, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing. Additionally, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for your contributions to Wikipedia, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block. To do so, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason for thinking that the block was an error, and publish the page. Requested username:

Request reason:

When I created the user name T A Consultants, I did so out of habit as I used to trade under that name as an IT Consultant. I have no financial or other interest in promoting any company or individual, but simply wished to create a Wikipedia entry on behalf of my son Dave Keeling along the lines of such entries as the actor Simon Pegg for example. I am fully prepared to take all and any advice regarding the cont and style of this page and can confirm that I will be receiving no payment for this

Decline reason:

Now that you know you have a conflict of interest with regard to your son, what will you write about instead? Yamla (talk) 14:01, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have processed the rename. However, you will need to tell us what subject areas you'll write about instead. --Yamla (talk) 14:02, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank for changing the user name. With regard to your other concerns, I only wished to create a Biography page (as previously stated along the lines of such as the actor Simon Pegg for my son and to avoid his having to find, and probably pay, someone else with the IT skillset to do so.

With regard to the content as submitted, I trusted that, as a first-time contributor, I would receive assistance and advice as to its suitability for inclusion from your editors.

The content that is deemed to be copyright infringement (web content) was copied from his own website and I would never have thought that this would have constituted an infringement, but it can always be re written.

I look forward to receiving your comments.

WP:COI and WP:PROMO covers this. Essentially, you won't be unblocked to write a biography of your son. If you wish to write about other subject areas, areas for which you have no conflict of interest, tell us what those are. --Yamla (talk) 15:06, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked Content

[edit]

Thank you for your reply.

I have no immediate plans with regard to other content that a can furnish you with at this time.

Will it be permissible, however, for someone else, without a conflict of interest, to submit a biography of David?
