Regarding Stephenson 2 DFK 49

[edit]

When making articles in Wikipedia regarding astronomical objects, there are several criteria by which we can follow.

1. Significant studies that explicitly detail the object. It goes beyond just mentioning it in a catalogue - it has to be a detailed description of the object.

2. The object is in a notable catalogue, that is, it is in a catalogue used popularly (like Messier). One significant factor for this is that the catalogue has few entries, preferably less than 150.

3. Covered by recent news, and being studied in peer-reviewed journals enough to be notable.

4. Discovery date is 1850 or earlier; the year before huge sky surveys began to be conducted.

Does Stephenson 2 DFK 49 fulfill those? I say no.

1. The citation in your draft refers to a general study of red galactic supergiants and barely mentions this star.

2. The Stephenson catalogue is massive, with differing designations, and not commonly used outside the context of the Stephenson clusters.

3. So far, no news about this object.

4. This star was discovered in the 1990s already.

Another note here. You may have seen in the List of largest stars that Stephenson 2-18, a fellow Stephenson 2 cluster member, is no longer on the list. This is because of the nature of the star and the cluster in general. Aside from the already tumultuous characteristic of red supergiants, we have issues when it comes to distance and extinction effects on Stephenson 2 cluster. This makes Stephenson 2-18's size very unreliable, and the same goes for Stephenson 2 DFK 49.

As of now, I don't recommend submitting that draft to be on its own article. But don't be discouraged. You can still look at requests and the talk page of the Wikiproject Astronomy to gather some ideas to have your own article.

Thank you for recommending me this matter and I truly appreciate it. Don't take this as a predicament but as an encouragement note on what to do for you to contribute to Wikipedia even better. Cheers! SkyFlubbler (talk) 15:06, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I don’t think my draft will become an article soon.—The Space Enthusiast (talk) 23:19, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Cool it

[edit]

Not every statement needs to have an exclamation point. Not everything needs to be a shouting match. If you have an issue with an entry on the list, discuss it calmly - no one is out to get you or "dethrone" a star from the "top spot" - we're all just trying to improve Wikipedia. Primefac (talk) 13:20, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Careful

[edit]

Be careful when you speak badly about people. Its extremely hard to get anything of the internet, not to mention WP. If you insult somebody or talk badly about them on WP, they might take it to WP and you might get blocked, possibly indefinitely. Watch what you type, and make sure nothing you say is inflammatory.

Watch out and thanks,

Your userpage

[edit]

When I stumbles upon your userpage, I discovered that you have put a list of users whose number of edits is exceeded by yours. To be hones, I nearly broke out laughing. Just for fun, how about user JayKayXD. I believe your number of edits exceeds his LOL.PNSMurthy (talk) 04:03, 24 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

LOL LOL ... Maybe Because I do many edits Per day. hopefully I can reach your number of Edits soon. It looks Like I am going to reach the number of Nussun05 edits soon ! My userpage Is also longer than those I have seen...--THE COLOSSAL GALAXY NAMED IC1101 (talk) 04:36, 24 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, Not as long as yours, but longer than Faren 29's, Lithopsian's, Nussun 05's And many more....I have mentioned these users, With utterly NO offense to them. If you are all reading this, Don't be angry on me. I am Just mentioning all of you. I am just Noting that all of your Userpages are a bit shorter than mine, but many of you have much more edits than me. --THE COLOSSAL GALAXY NAMED IC1101 (talk) 05:05, 24 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Just an Update, I have Exceeded 430 Edits already. I have Exceeded the Number of the Edits of Nussun 05, SpaceImplorerExplorer (Who says that Stephenson 2-18 is 474 solar radii) and Faren 29 (Who has at one point said Stephenson 2-18 is 2,163 solar radii; I support this.) Decline reason:

I am declining your unblock request because it does not address the reason for your block, or because it is inadequate for other reasons. To be unblocked, you must convince the reviewing administrator(s) that

  • the block is not necessary to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, or
  • the block is no longer necessary because you
    1. understand what you have been blocked for,
    2. will not continue to cause damage or disruption, and
    3. will make useful contributions instead.

Please read the guide to appealing blocks for more information. Yamla (talk) 09:38, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

  • You are very unlikely to be unblocked unless you show that you understand what the problems were. So, in any new unblock request, I suggest you will need to explain what the problems were, and why they were problems. And don't just *say* you understand, make your explanation *show* that you understand. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 09:42, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I understand. The problems were: I was aggressive toward users, Like Nussun05, I was typing in Caps Lock like "OMG STEPHENSON 2-18" and I disruptively edited talk pages like "Woah, WOH G64 is 2,100 solar radii and HV 888 is only 1,300 solar radii LOL LOL". I thought this was still Okayish but now I think that was way too much. I also did not Edit Frequently on pages, Which is not supposed to be. From now on I will Try to be nice and Make New articles on Astronomy and Stuff, and update things and correct factual errors. I feel like correcting them, for example the article for Stephenson 2-18 says it is located in the top left of the H R diagram when it is in the top right. Someone has confused Stephenson 2-18 with Stephenson 2 DFK 18 and I want to correct that. In the article for the Pinwheel Galaxy,it says the Milky Way is 100,000 ly but it is 200,000 ly. I also need to ask how to cite references, which I don’t know.I think this block is no longer necessary because I of course understand because Before I was Rude to Nussun05 but I realized she was Innocent. Instead of saying “ENOUGH !!!” I will say Nussun05 I might remove things because they might be Inaccurate . I now also think that typing in Caps Lock Is also too much. I will This time make Constructive edits, Not disruptively edit talk pages and treat other Users Nicely. I understand What I have been blocked for and I Will make useful contributions instead. Please Respond Quickly, And Please read the Things I have said above. If you have read it, Thanks. Do It ASAP and CaptainEek, Read everything above, and Respond quick and Fast. Thanks ! I was curious to see how this appeal would go, and honestly was not planning on taking any action myself, but this diff (adding the "Do It ASAP" bit) makes it pretty clear that you don't have the patience required to overcome the issues which initially landed you this block. Not everything needs to be done quickly, and up until you added those last few lines I was thinking your appeal might go positively. Until you can demonstrate patience, however, I think it would be best for you to remain blocked. Primefac (talk) 12:55, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I already understand the reason I have been blocked and I will make useful contributions instead which I did not do when I was still not blocked . If you will ask: Why You are not editing the List of largest stars? Well I am afraid to mess up the list just like what happened when Nussun 05 added an inaccurate size. I wanted to revert her edits because The list might become inaccurate. Now: There is a star named W60-B90 that is 2,555 solar radii. My opinion is that it is inaccurate and Nissun 05 as always is misleading way too many people just as a result... I want to remove that star but I could not since I am blocked and I want to discuss about removing things and stuff. I did not make useful contributions, was aggressive with users and Typed in Caps Lock which got me blocked. I also was aggressive toward users like Nussun 05 but I realized she was innocent. I also wrote in Caps Lock but Now I think that is too much, along with the other things and I got blocked, Indefinitely. I feel like this block is no longer necessary because of the reasons I told you and I have a few Ideas for articles. They are Deeeep.io, Millionaire Manor and the other stars in Stephenson 2 like Stephenson 2 DFK 18(Which by the way got confused with Stephenson 2 DFK 18) Stephenson 2 DFK 2 and many more. I will try to show that even Though Stephenson 2-18 is my favorite star because it is of course the largest star, I also would love to know about the other stars in Stephenson 2, I also want to discuss about Stephenson 2-18 and how it is possibly a red hypergiant and how the 90,000 solar luminosities value is inaccurate.. I want to discuss about the list of largest stars, Nussun 05 says she will add alot of stars maybe 1,000 but we will try to talk to her that If we add them The list will become Inaccurate and meaningless and she might be messing the list up.I also want to discuss about W60 B90 and how it is likely dubious. The reason I put those last lines was because no one was answering me until you, Primefac came along. Read the paragraph and thanks. I also want to remove the inaccurate estimate of NGC 6946 which is 40,000 ly but A recent estimate says it is 70,000 ly across. Not only that I will also be respectful and nice towards other users which I did not do when I was still not blocked. I already learned to keep my cool. Read the now updated and enlarged paragraph with a few more thoughts and more ideas. BTW, The star named W60 B90 got removed already. Thank you for reading my request and If you have time Primefac, please respond. Thanks!THE COLOSSAL GALAXY NAMED IC1101 (talk) 13:13, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Your reason here: I want to be unblocked because I now understand why I got blocked. There were many reasons. Firstly, I was rude to others. I should have contained my anger, and should have been polite. I now realize this was excessive. Secondly, I was typing in Caps lock. Caps lock is know to be a sign of someone being angry. I am so sorry, I should not be typing in this way. Thirdly, I was insulting people. I should have discussed with other people calmly and much less insultingly. I now realize this was too much, and it contributed to my blocking. There were many more factors leading to my block, including me always editing userspace rather than the articles. I now wish to contribute to these articles. That is all, thank you. THE COLOSSAL GALAXY NAMED IC1101 (talk) 01:53, 2 April 2021 (UTC)

Per your edit [1], you can't rely on me as a source. However, you can insist on sources to support any claim that W1-26 is a red hypergiant. Westerlund 1-26 does not have any sources to support that claim, which is why I removed it from that article. Lithopsian (talk) 14:33, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question about consistency

Sometimes you write "in the constellation X" and other times "in the constellation of X", in the short description. I am curious is there a reason? Leijurv (talk) 09:53, 17 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Draft review

[edit]

Hello there. I hope you would be able to review my draft article here at Draft:List of largest galaxies.

This is a revival of the List of largest galaxies, and a replacement to the current one, which has issues. Hope to have you share some thoughts, opinions, or any suggestions about it. Thanks! SkyFlubbler (talk) 16:19, 2 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It seems okay, but I am no expert so please let Parejkoi review it. I find it interesting that Malin 1 is not among the largest galaxies, probably because a small part of it is visible. There are some sources explicitly saying that it is among the largest galaxies known.--The Space Enthusiast (talk) 06:35, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I am not surprised at Malin 1, though. LSBs in general are pretty small (though UGC 586 is an LSB), and their haloes are not considered as their physical parts (part of the reason why I planned the list).
I am more surprised you didn't saw IC 1101, though. The size reported at NED now is 90.7 Mpc (~300 million light years) which means it is actually 4x closer than previously assumed. SkyFlubbler (talk) 14:14, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

(To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. Thanks again, and happy editing!

Your edits of Epsilon Andromedae

[edit]

Please stop trying to add too much technical information to the short description in the article Epsilon Andromedae. This is explained in the WP:SDCONTENT policy:

"Editors should bear in mind that short descriptions are not intended to define the subject of the article, but rather to distinguish it from other similarly named articles in search results."

Thank you. Praemonitus (talk) 15:12, 29 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I'll try to be more concise, and revise my other edits. Just search my contribution history and you'll see many of my contributions are actually editing short descriptions, and most of those edits added too much technical information, It's just that I feel like people may think that a star system is just a single star.--The Space Enthusiast (talk) 08:47, 30 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I thought I should post a follow-up since I have been reverting a small but significant proportion of your large number of short description edits over the last few weeks, and this proportion has been increasing. Today I have reverted a majority of your edits and I have been tempted to revert them all and/or open a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Astronomical objects, which suggests a serious problem somewhere.

Please read WP:SHORTDESC and the purpose of the short description. Specifically, think about "a short description is not a definition" and "More than 80% of short descriptions use fewer than 40 characters". Also note that you should "use universally accepted facts that will not be subject to rapid change, avoiding anything that could be understood as controversial, judgemental, or promotional". One of the primary purposes of the short description is to "distinguish it from other similarly-named articles in search results". The one-sentence guideline for a short description is to "provide a very brief indication of the field that is covered, a short descriptive annotation, and a disambiguation". The short summary might be "more is less" and "stick to the undisputable bare minimum of facts". While "Star" is clearly insufficient", "Star in the constellation Carina" might be enough and "Red giant star in the constellation Carina" is absolutely sufficient. Note that this last is already more than 40 characters, a strong indication to stop adding more words. Lithopsian (talk) 16:52, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

be careful with find/replace

You've inappropriately changed many things that weren't wrong and made them wrong. I've fixed them here. Please be careful with find/replace logic in the future.

Where have you been?

[edit]

It has been a long time since you last messaged me on Discord, where are you? VY Canis Majoris (talk) 13:29, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I am just taking a break.—The Space Enthusiast (talk) 17:12, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There have been news on the dimming of RW Cephei. VY Canis Majoris (talk) 12:43, 24 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Wow. I have been searching data on ESO 383-76, the galaxy now known as the largest known galaxy to laymen.--The Space Enthusiast (talk) 18:48, 26 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have more news now, the most recent light curve data suggests it's getting brighter rapidly, perhaps it's on its way to undergo a great eruption? VY Canis Majoris (talk) 09:38, 31 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Wow. RW Cephei is definitely acting weird. What are other possible "MY Cephei" type stars? Happy New Year!--The Space Enthusiast (talk) 21:36, 31 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well RW Cephei would certainly qualify if it's a member of Berkeley 94, Negueruela said the Gaia data makes it a member. VY Canis Majoris (talk) 10:51, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not use styles that are nonstandard, unusual, inappropriate or difficult to understand in articles, as you did in Horn Spire. There is a Manual of Style, and edits should not deliberately go against it without special reason. Hi! Please have a look at and follow MOS:NOTUSA (i.e., stop using "U.S.A.") in your short descriptions, thank you! Felida97 (talk) 11:14, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Stephenson 2 DFK 1 into Stephenson 2. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 13:40, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Short descriptions

[edit]

I see you have been busy adding short descriptions, and on literally hundreds of US articles you have written: "...in the American state of". There is no such place as "American". There is North America and South America, but no "American". Do you mean "in the US state of"? Could you please go back an fix all your short descriptions? Thanks so much. Magnolia677 (talk) 22:34, 22 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your welcome. I will fix them now. The Space Enthusiast (talk) 01:25, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
