tone at ANI
As Kazakhstan is a large country with 4 different geographical timezones, I find "uncontentious fact" a bit broad. Also, the above argument leads with recent changes to that fact, and argues that sourcing in a different article should be sufficient. ~ While I grant that the edit is definitely correct and may stand as patently obvious material, that wasn't that obvious.
Anyway, did you feel that my adopted tone was categorically wrong to use on ANI? I'd take guidance on that. (I don't feel this follow-up would be appropriate anyhow, so that's why it's on your talk page.) JackTheSecond (talk) 04:16, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
- No, I don’t think there was a problem with your tone, your point just missed the mark. “Uncontentious fact” is by its nature not a matter of debate, it is simply when an obvious reality unquestionably satisfies WP:V in a way that does not need to be vetted or discussed. The specifics of the sourcing or lack thereof is an afterthought in these cases because there is no realistic verifiability dispute and no significant urgent need for sourcing to be provided. The nitpicking about sourcing is simply not a particularly serious issue, not subjectively, but objectively, because the facts of the reality are not in dispute to begin with, and Wikipedia cares about accurate factual content above obsolete, outdated, inaccurately-sourced content. In this situation, process for the sake of process to maintain incorrect content when there is no logical reason to impede the reasonable and uncontentious updating of factual information is unproductive per WP:NOTBUREAU. There needs to be an actual substantive logical disagreement in order to challenge WP:BOLD edits and simply saying “source needed” without any actual thought is a form of disruptive editing under WP:COMMUNICATE, WP:TE and WP:STABLE. As I said, a reversion simply needs to have a real reason and not just be thoughtless, effortless stonewalling that doesn’t WP:AGF. An uncontentious, verifiable, bold edit is inherently endorsed by default as a matter of policy, and impeding such an edit without a valid reason is not legitimate at best, and blockable disruptive editing at worst. ~Swarm~ {sting} 05:02, 11 July 2024 (UTC)
Review autopatrol: Joseph2302
You re-granted Autopatrol, "trusting that the user will not repeat their past mistakes". However, a repeat is clearly underway. I G10 tagged Ben Brown (traitor) + London transport scam, and noticed the additional immature redirect creations in the past weeks: Quinton de Penis (RfD'd), Jamie Olive Oil, Ollie Poope, Communist plot football, COVID's Mum, and the racist Weejio.
