WP:Films Welcome

[edit]
Welcome!
File:Transparent film reel and film.png

Hey, welcome to the Films WikiProject! We're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of films and film characters. If you haven't already, please add {{User WikiProject Films}} to your user page.

A few features that you might find helpful:

  • Most of our important discussions about the project itself and its related articles take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.

There is a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:

  • Want to jump right into editing? The style guidelines show things you should include.
  • Want to assist in some current backlogs within the project? Visit the Film Tasks template to see how you can help.
  • Want to know how good our articles are? Our assessment department has rated the quality of every film article in Wikipedia. Check it out!
  • Want to collaborate on articles? The Cinema Collaboration of the Week picks an article every week to work on together.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask another fellow member, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! Nehrams2020 08:58, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Research

[edit]
The Barnstar of Diligence
I was so impressed and blown away by your diligent research in our discussion in WP:AMOS that I was compelled to award you this well-deserved Barnstar of Diligence. Thank you so much for the hard work. - Anas talk? 21:17, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's a pleasure to meet you, Dr. Swan — yeah, did a Google search. I'm a Canadian-Syrian young man living in Saudi Arabia for the time being (off to Canada in a few months). It always gratifies me to learn from an experienced person like you. :-) If you ever need any help or assistance, please feel free to contact me in my talk page, or send me an e-mail. Thanks again, have a good day. - Anas talk? 21:17, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, don't mention it. I guess I learned about it from the Internet, see this UN document. It also makes sense to me since it's a correct translation. By the way, we'll need to modify the MoS some time. I'm swamped this period with work on WP:SY. Cheers, Anas talk? 20:34, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Valid points, but what you say actually supports my opinion. You say that the typical order is noun-adjective while in English it is adjective-noun, and this the case in āḥrof shamsīyyah (noun-adjective) which in English is likely to be solar letters (adjective-noun), right? Anyway, I'll be eagerly awaiting your research on the matter. :-) All the best, Anas talk? 22:43, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, it's letters solar --> solar letters. It's similar to siyyarah sari`a (car fast) --> fast car. Like I said in WP:AMOS, the terms solar and lunar letters might be correct but the more commonly used and endorsed terms are sun and moon letters. So I'm pretty sure that your research's conclusions will probably lean to sun and moon. Regards, Anas talk? 01:52, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User page

[edit]

Just popped up on my watchlist. Would you like some help designing your user page? :-) —Anas talk? 15:00, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, absolutely! Words come naturally for me, but the learning curve on designing is intimidating! I'll probably play around with my user page over time and add a few things in (like the gazillion courses I've tuaght), but since I seem to be using Wikipedia as my "R&R" activity, I thought I'd at least put something up there. :-) Any aid and assistance would be welcome. warmly,
Sure, I'll see what I can do. As for replying, well, people generally expect to see replies in their talk page, but it would be OK if you want to reply in your own talk page. Though, if you're going to do that it is recommended you notify users; for example see User talk:Asabbagh. —Anas talk? 16:27, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What do you think? I hope you're enjoying Easter as much as I am. ;-) —Anas talk? 23:26, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm glad you like it. :-) To be honest, I am shocked to learn that this is how it is in UAE. I thought they somehow celebrated Christian holidays there. Well, not here, that's for sure. We just had a local house party with some friends. Anyway, see you around. —Anas talk? 17:33, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Anka

[edit]

Very valid points indeed. I do also believe that Paul Anka is, historically, of Syrian ancestry. He was born to Syrian parents and sang in a Syrian church, but his parents were Maronites, so undoubtedly Anka himself asserts that he is of Lebanese descent. I think it's not a major issue actually. What's important is that we have noted that in the article. Being in a certain category or tagged as part of WP:SY is no big deal. Thanks for the information and the link. :-) Regards, Anas talk? 18:07, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Page moves

[edit]

Swan, as the page move is disputed, please go through Requests for page moves. As I recall, this involves organizing a mini poll on the page, then asking an uninvolved admin to interpret the results and make the decision. Many thanks, SlimVirgin (talk) 22:49, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Help w/ Am/Brit English diff editing

[edit]

{{helpme}}

What do you need help with? Place {{helpme}} back up with your answer. --ais523 16:28, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Hello, ais523. I've been working on some edits in the article "American and British English differences." Problems keep cropping up though. It seems if I do a longish edit, the "save" blanks out the first two and 1/2 sections of the article. This just happened when I tried to save an edit adding a reference to the article. The first time this happened, I thought it was vandalism and just reverted back to an earlier edit. But it keeps happening. Any trouble shooting ideas? Cyg-nifier 16:54, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've just looked through the article's history. It seems to be because there was an incorrectly-closed ref tag introduced in your edit here; you typoed and accidentally wrote >/ref> rather than </ref>. This led to the ref expanding to enclose the whole of the rest of the article, apparently blanking it. I think the ref tags are correctly matched in the latest version, so you shouldn't have a problem if you don't typo again; if the problem persists, put {{helpme}} back up. Hope that helps! --ais523 17:09, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Your editing

[edit]

I'm getting the strong impression that you're going around adding your personal views to Wikipedia, whether it be about Harvard referencing or anything else, which is why I'm requesting sources for your edits. Rather than throwing out accusations of harassment, it would make more sense for you simply to provide the sources, and to read the content policies, which will save you problems like this in future: see WP:NOR, WP:V, and WP:CITE. Also, have you edited Wikipedia with any other user name/IP? I'm getting a strong sense of déja vu from some of your editing and your responses. SlimVirgin (talk) 21:28, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

3RR warning

[edit]

As you're reverting a lot, I should also warn you about our 3RR policy. Please take the time to review it carefully. Many thanks, SlimVirgin (talk) 21:31, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for helping with WP:CITE

[edit]

Hey, I appreciate you assisting with the Wikipedia:Citing sources related articles.. I feel they are some of the most important to the project. Please don't be discouraged that not all your changes have stuck, it happens to everyone. There are plenty of other details (and gaping holes) which would benefit from your attention! Also, if you are sure about something, strong and specific sources will work wonders. Stick around,.. feel free to drop any questions or requests my way. here 04:36, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings from the League of Copyeditors. Your name is listed on our members page, but we are unsure how many of the people listed there are still active contributors to the League's activities. If you are still interested in participating in the work of the League, please follow the instructions at the members page to add your name to the active members list. Once you have done that, you might want to familiarise yourself with the new requests system, which has replaced the old /proofreading subpage. As the old system is now deprecated, the main efforts of the League should be to clear the substantial backlog which still exists there.
The League's services are in as high demand as ever, as evinced by the increasing backlog on our requests pages, both old and new. While FA and GA reviewers regularly praise the League's contributions to reviewed articles, we remain perennially understaffed. Fulfilling requests to polish the prose of Wikipedia's highest-profile articles is a way that editors can make a very noticeable difference to the appearance of the encyclopedia. On behalf of the League, if you do consider yourself to have left, I hope you will consider rejoining; if you consider yourself inactive, I hope you will consider returning to respond to just one request per week, or as many as you can manage. Merry Christmas and happy editing, The League of Copyeditors.

Re-raising Harvard referencing issue

[edit]

I've reraised an issue at Harvard referencing on changing Harvard referencing to author-date referencing before Wikipedia changes the reality. Author-date is a much more intuitive name. OptimistBen (talk) 05:26, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
