Main page appearance
Hello! This is a note to let the main editors of this list know that it will be appearing as the main page featured list on January 23, 2012. You can view the TFL blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured list/January 23, 2012. If you think it is necessary to change the main date, you can request it with the featured list directors The Rambling Man (talk · contribs), Dabomb87 (talk · contribs) or Giants2008 (talk · contribs), or at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured list. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions of the suggested formatting. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. :D Thanks! Ninety-five athletes won at least one medal at the 1936 Winter Olympics, held in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. The Games featured 17 events, including alpine skiing for the first time, which was the first women's event that was not part of the figure skating programme. Of the 28 participating National Olympic Committees, 11 had athletes represented on the medal winners' list. Medal winners included Sonja Henie (pictured), who won the last of her three gold medals in Olympic figure skating, and Ivar Ballangrud, whose four medals in speed skating took his career tally to seven. Just 9 of the 95 medal winners won more than one medal; 5 of the 9 won at least one gold medal in addition to their other medals. The British men's ice hockey team were also among the medallists; their gold medal remains to date the sole British Olympic title in ice hockey.

Thanks for the note. Wasn't aware of the concern regarding ITN/C, and thank you for alerting me to it. The key thing that convinced me that he was trustworthy was that he had the right for 2 months previously. I will periodically review the new contributions of this user prospectively. The right can be removed fairly quickly if needed. Should there be any issues that arise regarding this user that you become aware of, then please do let me know -- Samir 20:00, 10 March 2012 (UTC)

Sorry
I'm sorry for having blown my head of like that on WP:ANI about you , and I'm real sorry. Please note that I'm on the Asperger Syndrome Spectrum, hence my behavior. If you are still mad at me, and don't believe me, remove this. Ab hijay ☎ 13:29, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
- I think it's a pretty convenient excuse to bring up out of nowhere when it's never been raised before. That said, I will assume good faith here and believe your reasoning. In all seriousness, when editing (be it an article, or on AN, or wherever), you need to stop and think about what you are doing before you actually do it. It would result in far fewer incidents involving you. —Strange Passerby (talk • cont) 17:35, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
- Abhijay / Soviet King has been chatting with me on my talk, etc., and even though he is A-Spectrum, he does know (now!) not to play the "poor misunderstood Aspie" card again. We're working on some improvements and general tips on handling stuff, and I'm sure that you'll see a lot of improvement, very quickly, now. SK, don't let me (and yourself!) down, OK? :D SK, Strange Passerby's advice here, to stop and think (or slow down, back away, chill out for a while; i.e. be a bit less trigger-happy) is excellent advice, especially for us A-Spectrum types, as being a bit too quick off the mark can be a real glitch for us. You might find my own civility essay helpful, as I'm an Autie myself (and though she's never been diagnosed, I suspect that my mother – mentioned in the essay – is in the same boat with us, too). Remember to relax, and concentrate on being extra-tolerant, as it helps us to make up for that Aspie/Autie thing. Pesky (talk) 13:27, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
- Cheers Pesky, I have full faith in your ability to guide Abhijay / SK along. —Strange Passerby (talk • cont) 15:56, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
- Hehe! My stalkers and I will do our best. Being A-Spectrum isn't easy, especially for youngsters; it's hard to leave the old baggage behind you and move on cleanly into a new area. But it can be done, and (as I've said to SK), A-Spectrum people can, given the effort and desire, turn out to be some of our best editors. Pesky (talk) 16:09, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
Secure server
Hi. I noticed in this edit that you included a link to secure.wikimedia.org. You really want to be using https://en.wikipedia.org and its siblings these days. secure.wikimedia.org was a terrible hack that contained (and continues to contain) security issues. It's deprecated in favor of https://en.wikipedia.org. Plus, the newer URL format is much prettier.
The "HTTPS Everywhere" extension is available for Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. This extension will automatically redirect you from HTTP links to HTTPS links when appropriate (e.g., for Wikimedia wikis and YouTube and Twitter and such). It's quite nice. :-) --MZMcBride (talk) 19:25, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

Instantnood and ColourWolf are back
- Hey SP, please note that they are both using anon IP to harass editors. Instantnood's IP has been blocked but ColourWolf's IP isn't as it falls in a very wide range, the co-lateral is believed to be massive if a rangeblock is imposed but fortunately he's targeting only User:Alarics so I need you to help me keep an eye while I'm not around. Civility
Hey Strange Passerby. I've seen a couple of edits from you over the past few days which have given me pause (this and now this). The first you acknowledged as problematic, the second - I hope you can see is not exactly civil (the last sentence particularly). Any chance you could tone things down? Cheers. WormTT · (talk) 11:19, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
- If Soviet King is going to do exactly what he did the last time, then I really don't see a point of 'playing nice', to be perfectly frank. But thanks for your note — if you want to discuss it further, my email's open. —Strange Passerby (talk • cont) 11:23, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
- Given that the last time was less than 2 weeks ago, I can understand that and his comments weren't appropriate (I see Pesky's talked to him about them, which I thought she might) - so I can understand that point of view. Anyway, hope all's well with you. WormTT · (talk) 11:53, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
In The News/Recurring Items
I am posting here to ask for editors to look at Wikipedia:In_the_news/Recurring_items and to comment at the talk page to discuss/vote on an amendment to the ITN/R list. I am posting this message on a number of editor's talk pages to encourage debate.
In connection to an ongoing debate on which items can appear on the front page under "In The News", "Recurring Items" are nominated events which require very little debate in the nomination process.
I propose the following amendment to the current ITN/R list. In addition I will put this on the talk page of as many editors as I can find who are contributors to ITN/C
At Wikipedia:In_the_news/Recurring_items, I propose the following amendment to section 3:
- At line 5, delete "and", and add after "territories" the words "and the world's twenty smallest nations".
Section 3, Line 5 would then read:
- Disputed states, dependent territories and the world's twenty smallest nations should be discussed at WP:ITN/C and judged on their own merits.
I look forward to the debate doktorb wordsdeeds 07:27, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

RE: User talk
Woops, dint know he was under that. But his comment on ITNC was a flagrant attack with no contribution levelled at me. See the section on the India posting.(Lihaas (talk) 12:00, 20 April 2012 (UTC)).
- Hes free to take it off his talk page, but, for the record, i warned him (as required per conflict resolution mechanisms) and he retorts with a summary like that ;)(Lihaas (talk) 19:29, 20 April 2012 (UTC)).
- Per the unblock comments at the bottom...the ITNC comment was preetty dodgy , no/?
- Also, while this was before the block, his immediate reaction at Talk: 2012 BRICS summit (also my first interaction with him) was a little over the top. Fortunately that stayed level and was soted. But the 1st and last section there are in line with the demands he made at ANI that blocked.
- Found some tag-team editing here which is canvasing and scaring off other editors, arguably, at this raet, much more productive(Lihaas (talk) 20:53, 20 April 2012 (UTC)).

Confused...
- See Janatin, was on today's DYK and quite frankly, I'm seeing a lot of funky content (1. blow me down... him blowing up a building that still stands? / 2. viewpoints are gathered from only Indon sources and not from Commonwealth side of the fence) in the article page... but chief amongst all, does this lowly marine (hung as a cowardly criminal in one country but idolised in another as a hero) deserve even a mention in Wikipedia? Thoughts? --Dave ♠♣♥♦™№1185©♪♫® 04:37, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
