ADOPT A USER

I use wikipedia sparsely. I am overwhelmed by the process. Because of a serious illness, I had no computer or internet skills until a few years ago. Therefore, I am like Rip Van Winkle. Nevertheless, I deeply desire to use and edit wikipedia. Recently, I've toyed with begging my local community college to offer such a course. Today I noticed the Adopt a User Feature for the first time. I am a NYer in exile in PA, outside of Philadelphia. My time zone is EST. I am just start to practice civil rights law as a way to re-enter the profession. I have experience on U.S. Supreme Court landmark cases and practiced corporate law at a large elite law firm. My goal is to find a balance between the two experiences. I am female (the name) and temporarily single (B/c I plan to marry asap altho I'm not dating anyone). Wikipedia use and knowledge will place me among the best and the brightest again. I miss my former life very much. The difference in culture over a relatively short geographical distance surprises me. 75Janice -- I'm not certain how to sign on and off.75Janice (talk) 19:17, 7 October 2008 (UTC) 75Janice

AAU reminder notice

A friendly reminder from the Adopt-a-User project =)
Hey there Sticky Parkin! This is a friendly reminder to update your status at Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User/Adoptee's Area/Adopters whenever it is appropriate in order to provide new users with the most up-to-date information on available adopters. Also please note that we will be removing adopters who have not edited in 60 days. If you become active again (and we hope you do!) please feel free to re-add yourself. Cheers!

User:QaBobAllah

Hi, you may have seen the latest comments by this blocked user on his/her talk page. I wouldn't get in to a debate on the issue: slinging mud at you is only further evidence of this person being caught out and I'd rise above it if I were you. It's interesting that QaBobAllah has now come out claiming s/he knows Ekajati in person, referring to Ekajati as 'her' - I didn't even realise the puppetmaster was a 'she' until I spoke to Blnguyen to raise the problem! I guess I shall only ever know 25% of the story and what's going on, but I think it was another give-away comment. ColdmachineTalk 21:55, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Tohd8BohaithuGh1, may be using Huggle too fast

I still have Tohd8BohaithuGh1 on my watchlist and he's apparently getting some notices about reverting good faith edits from using Huggle. I might be wrong and he may be using well, but from what I can tell he got huggle a half hour ago and already has about four you reverted my good faith edits messages on his talk page. I'm hoping he'll slow down/stop, or maybe I'm wrong and he's ok, but this is the problem he's had in the past. -Optigan13 (talk) 23:22, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

I would highly recommend that you explain to him really clearly that his on his last last last chance. We were more than patient with him since the beginning and he just does not seem to be getting it at all regardless of the chances he's been given, the guidance he's been given, and the fact that he's been adopted.--Crossmr (talk) 22:08, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Good contribs or not, there isn't an exchange system in place where you can endlessly offset upsetting people with x number of good contribs. Whatever his agenda is for editing, I've had misgivings about it since he made the statement about not being able to revert any vandalism fast enough without tools because others would get to it first. (I'm trying to find that comment, but its tough because of his flooded contrib history, found it User_talk:Tohd8BohaithuGh1#Your_edit_to_Stanhope_Road_School). He doesn't seem to care that vandalism gets reverted on wikipedia as much as he cares that he is the one that does it. With that statement and yet another round of upsetting people with his edits, its growing rather tiresome. Good contribs or not.--Crossmr (talk) 09:48, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
As I said, I don't deny the good edits exist, but they can't be used as an excuse to accept the bad ones endlessly. There are some people around AN/I who seem to believe in an imaginary point system that exists on in their head where they can excuse certain amounts of bad behaviour based on good behaviour, but most people seem more of the nature that if someone isn't learning from their mistakes, patience wears thin quickly.--Crossmr (talk) 03:59, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Has he received his adoption assignments yet? I'm sure those will begin to enlighten him to other areas of the Wiki where his zeal can be asset and he will find enjoyment in those activities as well. ⋙–Berean–Hunter—► ((⊕)) 00:27, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi Sticky, responded on my talk page. Since then I see things went just slightly awry but your advice that you just posted is sound. Cheers,⋙–Berean–Hunter—► ((⊕)) 00:37, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

AfD Process

Thanks for the support and for starting my talk page! But I did have a question. Most of the pages I've come across over the last few months in my interest area have been really pretty good, needing only minor updates. However, last week while looking around, I came across that page which to me seemed like a shameless plug. I tagged it PROD as my first official edit, however the subject of the page refuted it and someone took my short edit history into account to deny the speedy delete.

To me its obvious, but did that fail because of my history? or just because it was contested meaning it had to go through the more 'official' debate process?

Also, I felt like I really had to justify my position, so I did a LOT of research. It was actually fun! However, after I posted, it seemed like I went WAAAAY above and beyond what other articles had posted about them. It wasn't really a waste of time since it was kinda fun, but am I better off just putting a short sentence or two to sum up my point of view and let others make their own opinions? I realize that I may have left little room to argue for saving the page (even though i did suggest adding content to other relevant articles) and my opinion may have dominated the debate.

I tried reading some etiquette articles to see if these topics were addressed, but I didn't really see anything relevant. Thanks again! Cazbahrocker (talk) 02:57, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

At the time that [1] was posted the article was not at AfD and the user was simply requesting assistance, albeit in the wrong place. Thus, it might be a good idea is you undid your somewhat snappy comment, [2], as the was not forum shopping nor should we expect newcomers to be necessarily familiar with relevant policies (if they would even know where to find them). There is currently an open Request for Comment on User Conduct here, regarding G2bambino. As someone with past interactions with him, you are invited to comment. — roux ] [x] 15:17, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

You're welcome. I have let a wide variety of people know: everyone who commented on the recent AN post, admins involved in blocking and unblocking G2, and everyone who commented more than once (and who wasn't just dropping off an automessage) on G2's talk page in the past year. I think that should represent a reasonable cross-section of opinions. I hope I didn't miss anyone. — roux ] [x] 16:45, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
Doh, thank you. I don't know how I missed him. I'd have let User:Lonewolf BC know, but he only seems to pop up once a month or so, and he was here two days ago. — roux ] [x] 17:26, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi.

Quick pop-in to say hi, glad you're working on a book, so am I. Sorry I freaked out. See you in a couple months or so, I still feel disillusioned.

Thanks

I was the one who freaked out! Yeah, I love lulu. I may use it as a last resort one day. Hopefully my story will get an article here! Woooo!

PS

Thanks, I'm cheering up, I was contemplating wikicide, but now, no. :)

PPS

The tough times were, you know, the whole business of Daniel and Metros having a go at a misunderstood user in a misunderstading place.

PPPS

Oh, and Mr/Ms/Miss/Mstr/Mrs "Get a life" on Talk:Midget is at it again, so i warned him/her/it again. Fair judgement.

903M...

I gave him that advice and that little...she was...A CRIMINAL!? I CAN'T GO TO PRISON! I'LL GET R**ED!

(That's a reference to The Young Ones btw)
