[edit]GreasySteve, you signed your name to the wrong place. The active vote is taking place at Talk:Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy. Please come there to vote! Thanks. Babajobu 03:26, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
Fair use image
[edit]Hello! I noticed that you had Image:Jyllands-Posten Muhammad drawings.jpg shown on your user page. The image is uploaded under a fair use provision, and Wikipedia policy states that fair use images should not be displayed on any pages outside the main (article) namespace, including user pages. Would you mind removing the image or simply linking to it? (Add a ":" in from of the image, like this: [[:Image:Jyllands-Posten Muhammad drawings.jpg]]) Thanks a lot! Flcelloguy (A note?) 15:25, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
- Okay. Will do. But would it be alright if made a userbox out of it that stated that this user was against censorship?--Steven X 07:19, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot! Flcelloguy (A note?) 16:18, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
- Kinda like this:
This user finds censorship offensive. |
--Steven X 07:41, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
- Fair use images are permitted in the article namespace only. You might want to fix up that userbox since it looks like I uglified it when I removed the image =S. — TheKMantalk 08:06, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
- This isn't fair. That would be perfectly okay in uncyclopedia--Steven X 08:38, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

Arabic script
[edit]Benbrika and Hilaly are Australian citizens, and Australia uses the Roman alphabet. It is therefore not appropriate that their names be rendered in Arabic script. Adam 11:21, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

Abo
[edit]Howdy Steve. I think most Australians would disagree about which slur is more offensive to Indigenous Australians. I removed your question because I wasn't sure if you were just trying to bait people but I'll assume good faith. Garglebutt / (talk) 20:38, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
- "Abo" may be more offensive to Indigenous Australians but it probably doesn't have the stigma that "Nigger" has to those of African decent.--Steven X 22:46, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
- It's pretty hard to describe the response to a slur to people from outside of Australia without providing a well known comparison. It may not be ideal, but I can't think of any other way to convey the intent. Garglebutt / (talk) 22:50, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Heidi Choat - Photo
[edit]Hey Steve. Thanks for suggesting a photo for my article on sex offender Heidi Choat. I would love to add a pic, but the only one I have is not good quality and is scanned from a newspaper article, so I'm not sure that I'm allowed to place it on Wikipedia. I'll have to check the copyright rules more closely for Fair Use. --SilverWings 22:42, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

{{wrongtitle}} and {{lowercase}}
[edit]I see you tried to do the same hack which was tried before with {{title}}. It doesn't work correctly in all skins (and has other problems), so I have reverted and redirected {{title-left}} to {{wrongtitle}}. I'm also reverting the pages to use {{lowercase}}. --cesarb 17:57, 19 March 2006 (UTC)
- Please give me examples of it not working? And if it doesn't work in some skins those skins should be removed because it looked pretty fullproof and looks really ugly now you changed it back. I mean who are you? An admin?--Steven X 02:56, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
- Just look at it with any skin other than monobook (append ?useskin=skin to the address to test; for instance [1]). See Wikipedia:Catalogue of CSS classes for the full list of skins; I tested with all of them, and it works only on Monobook. It also makes it harder to copy the name of the page, causes wrong results when previewing, gives different results on article view versus other views (history, for instance), makes the name different on the Talk page, and could hide the special icons next to it (the Featured Article star and the Spoken icon). The other skins will not be removed just because of a ugly hack not working with them; the right thing to do is to remove the ugly hack and implement it correctly.
- As to who I am, it shouldn't matter; a Wikipedia administrator is nothing more than a normal editor with a few extra capabilities (such as deletion and blocking). Since none of these extra capabilities are involved, I do not need to be a Wikipedia administrator to revert a misguided change, and to explain why I did it. But yes, I am a Wikipedia administrator. --cesarb 03:26, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
Who are you calling an ugly hack?
[edit]--Steven X 01:16, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
- Not "Who", but "What". I'm not talking about the person, I'm talking about the template. --cesarb 01:39, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
{{Arabic}} at Arabian Knight (comics)
[edit]This is a fictional character created in the USA. Most likely, his name has never ever been written in the Arabic script. (Just for record, it would be عبد القمر.)
- Yeah. I am just interested in thing like that. I'll get rid of the template. However I did see something similar on the Borat page.--Steven X 07:38, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
The same also applies to Jafar, just in case you and User:143.92.1.33 are the same person. --tyomitch 17:41, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
I see. I also removed the template you also added to Juan Antonio Samaranch; he is Spanish, and has nothing to do with Arabic. --tyomitch 07:46, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
- I dont even rememeber doing that, lol.--Steven X 13:33, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit]yes my friendly steve, i am not the one who is confused here , you are. they are from aegean macedonia, thats a part of macedonia wich only now belongs to greece. did you know that Aegean macedonia became a Greek part after 1913?? did you know that before 1913 the aegean part of macedonia was 80% inhabitated with macedonians rather than greeks and after the annexation they were either forced to claim theirselves greek, or forced to leave the country? many of those refugees fled to australia, thats probably the reason why stan lazaridis's family came to australia. did you know that after the 1913 annexation of macedonia to greece, that all macedonian cities, villages and peoples surnames were forbidden, and had to be changed into greek names?? did you know that? of course you didnt, so please learn before you talk. his ancestors were forced to change their backname by the greeks, not just his family but all macedonian families in ?Aegean Macedonia. and some for example the family of stan lazaridis have kept their new name. However there is still a large macedonian minority in northern Greece(agean macedonia) and oh yeah,if he is greek, why would he play for a ethnic macedonian football team? --Makedonia 09:36, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
- Lazaridis is a Greek name. The Macedonian football club the article doesn't mention is most likly refering to the Macedonia in Greece.--Steven X 03:47, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
as i said before, its a greek name yes, greek macedonia now belongs to greece, it was annexed in 1913, as i said, all the macedonians there were forced to change their last names into greek sounding names, Lazar became: Lazaridis. if you dont know any of this history, why are you trying to look like you know, just leave it. he is macedonian, but he just kept his greek version of his name. --Makedonia 10:58, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
- Okay I'll leave it. I'm not Greek or Macedonian. But you realise this is touchy issue and lots of Greeks that come across it will change it, dont you?--Steven X 12:32, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
thats a smart thing, and yes i realise, but what should i do? to let some people spread wrong information? no, i will edit articles with truth, no lies, nor propaganda. thank you, greetings mate --Makedonia 12:54, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Steven X, you are of course right to point out this issue. This user, as you have no doubt understood by now, is repeatedly trying to push his POV in every article he meddles with. I'll be watching this article as well.-- Avg 13:24, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
- I thought as much.--Steven X 14:27, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
i thought we had an agreement. of course avg says you are right, cause he is greek :) --Makedonia 08:53, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for trying to deal with controversial issues. My advice is not to get into it very much, unless you are prepared, coz it has the tendency of sucking people into it. If you do feel you want to deal with this, then fine. Now to the point:
- User:Macedonia is an example of a user with nationalistic edits. See:
- His very username
- Userpage (and history of)
- User:NikoSilver/List of POV edits by Slavomacedonians#User:Macedonia (incomplete)
- Your vote for the poll in (ethnic group):
- It had already been decided to go with an RfC (read below)
- I think that it would be more sensible, anyway, because there are very few users involved in the talk (we need more 3d party opinions)
- Telex is already preparing the RfC comment
- We do agree that we need a poll, just not right away, let's bring more people in and discuss further
- Stan Lazaridis: No idea, apart from this equivalent.
- Hope I helped. NikoSilver (T) @ (C) 10:20, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the info. I'm niether Greek nor a Macedonian Slav... so I hope I can be considered third party.--Steven X 10:44, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
- Ha! I knew that already, I've been wikistalking you! NikoSilver (T) @ (C) 10:49, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
- Yikes!--Steven X 10:52, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
- It's the way of the Epsilons! You can't escape, you'll be brainwashed by telepathetic UFOs, like Kofi Annan and the rest of the UN koo-koo bunch were, when they accepted Greece's claim for provisionally calling them FYROM... I suggest you read Macedonia (terminology) thoroughly (footnotes, arrows, asteriscs, maps etc). It is an article that includes all extremity of the POVs in the area. NikoSilver (T) @ (C) 11:22, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
- Duly Noted--Steven X 11:24, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
yeah of course you have sources, but of course those are "Greek" sources or others who dont know the situation of macedonia and greece, just like you, so its normal they will say he is greek, you have to understand that in greece there was and still is a large macedonian community, the greek government is denying that and calls them simply Greeks. --Makedonia 16:34, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
Last month Greece played a friendly football match against Australia [2]. Stan Lazaridis was cheered by Australian Greeks as a fellow Australian Greek and the Greek team, namely Georgios Seitaridis, treated him as such. One must presume that since user Makedonia identifies with Lazaridis, he must be Greek himself.
Also, see article [3]: Greek interest on omogeneia football player Stan Lazaridis. 05 Jun 2006 09:47:00 Greek-Australian, 33 year-old football player, Stan Lazaridis revealed that Greece and Cyprus football teams have made interesting proposals with that of Greece being most attractive. However, he did not rule out the possibility of playing in an Australian team since he has proposals from three teams, Newcastle, whose coach is Greek Nikos Theodorakopoulos, Perth and Adelaide. At the moment he said “ the focus of my interest is Australian National team and my participation in the World Cup Finals. Politis (T)
Hey... (Bosnia)
[edit]I have noticed that you have changed the redirect for "Bosnia." It used to redirect to "Bosnia and Herzegovina," now it redirects to "Bosnia (region)". Honestly I do not think that it makes more sense, since most (almost all) of the people that type in Bosnia want to get to the article "Bosnia and Herzegovina." Due to the fact that Wikipedia's based on agreements, I think that there should be a vote for this issue.
Thanks, Kseferovic 03:38, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

Mcdonalds
[edit]sounds like a good idea, perhaps it would work as a separate map since date of the first store is still interesting. though I cant find a list of how many stores are in each country. do you know where this information is? --Astrokey44 06:52, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
Re: Flag of Germany during 1934
[edit]Hi Steven X, thanks for commenting on the issue. There have been ongoing reverts with this issue. In the article you provided me it says:
...When the Nazis came to power in 1933 the black-red-gold flag was entirely removed and replaced with the black-white-red, though they would eventually, on September 15, 1935, replace virtually all German governmental flags with designs based on the swastika flag that had been their party flag.
So then the Weimar and the Swastika flags are both legit at the time. However, according to the article at German Wikipedia, it says that the Weimar Republic flag was used for trade and international purposes ("National- und Handelsflagge"), while the Swastika flag was only used domestically ("Zivilflagge"). Therefore I assume it was the Weimar Republic flag that was used. I hope that cleared things up. PerfectStorm (Hello! Hallo! Bonjour! Holla!) 11:58, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
Update
[edit]I have gone to the German Wikipedia and posted the question on the talk page regarding the matter just be sure. Ironically, as I was skimming I noticed that the FIFA World Cup article has the Weimar Republic flag in it, but the FIFA World Cup in 1934 has the Third Reich flag. If you want to check it out, I posted it here, though I'm not sure if that's any help to you. I have told them to contact me on my talk page, so I will report the latest from them, and then we can jointly go and alert the editors at the article if it needs changing. Regards, -- PerfectStorm (Hello! Hallo! Bonjour! Holla!) 12:36, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- That's true, but it's always IP's or recently created accounts that make those changes, just for the heck of it, so even if it wasn't really vandalism, it was intended to be. Know what I mean lol? PerfectStorm (Hello! Hallo! Bonjour! Holla!) 12:40, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- Just for the record, I'm no Harper supporter either:P. Him and Bush make for one disgusting couple. PerfectStorm (Hello! Hallo! Bonjour! Holla!) 12:45, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
unfortunately i can't block that IP as im not an admin, but i'll report it, and see if an admin blocks him/her :) jpiper 12:13, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
I reported the IP, but as he hasn't made any other edits, he didn't get banned :( If you see him messing around again, report him (or tell me, and i cant do it for you!) -- jpiper

[edit]Your recent contribution(s) to the Wikipedia article Robert Irwin are very much appreciated. However, you did not provide references or sources for your information. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and as you might be aware there is currently a drive to improve the quality of Wikipedia by encouraging editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. [edit]Can anyone stop this person vandalising?--Steven X 06:45, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
- This user has not had any vandal warnings, so are they a vandal? If they have vandalised, you can report them to WP:AIV once you have reached {{test4}} on their Talk page. If you have done this then the response time should be fairly short. Leaving messages on individual admins' Talk pages may incur a delay due to timezone differences, as they may be asleep or away from their computers. Regards, (aeropagitica) 09:54, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
have you heard of User:Jackp? i am familiar with his editing styles and the film articles are all the same. Jackp (btw, Jack is Raptor's real name apparently) caused great trouble on various city pages particularly Sydney. Looking at the few city contribs they look similar to Jackps as do he is movie edits. I am certain it is a sock. --Merbabu 05:19, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Steven says: You forgot Y as consonant, as in Yes. I think.
Regarding DH and TH for the voiced dental fricative and voiceless dental fricative . I would have used C instead and maybe a CH as well to seperate the two.
Oh and about the ZH for pleaSure, I woulda just used a J. And Dj for the sound in Jar (Djar) or Djibouti like the french.--Steven X 09:04, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
Hey Steven, no, I didn't: J as in you > ju(u) As in other Germanic languages. /j/ Of course I never thought anyone would actually use this system (although I did sometimes use it myself)
I didn't want to use c in this system coz it's one of the most ambiguous letters of English spelling.
