Re: MDNA

[edit]

It's happened before. In the industry now, with the likes of Adele, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga, she'll have a tough time competing. Commercially that is. I can't understand how Rihanna is so successful on charts. Critically speaking, people will have very high expectations for Madge, and will find themselves disappointed. C'mon, she has had her fair share of criticism and commercial failure. After the negative reviews for W/.E., who knows. She's gotta outdo herself. I do have strong hopes for one of the greatest artists of the century, but not getting my hopes too high. —WP:PENGUIN · [ TALK ] 22:54, 12 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't that what a flop is though? Oh well, I guess she'll be very successful. I guess my lack of faith could be that I'm not a huge fan of her, but I hope she's inovating this time. Femme Fatale was quite a disappointment from Spears. Just cranked up the auto-tune and borrowed lyrics by Ke$ha. I hope Madonna does something new though. Something radio-friendly, yet with strong vocals and a catchy tune. But I guess the secret to chart success nowadays is lots of autotune and electronic production. —WP:PENGUIN · [ TALK ] 23:24, 12 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds to me like you've done your research. ;-) I haven't a clue how the album was composed, but a Music x ROL combo sounds really Madge-genuine. I've heard the "Masterpiece" demo, though I'm not sure if they are going to release it for both the W/E soundtrack and MDNA. The title of the album does give the impression that Madonna's preparing to make a big comeback and make Interscope happy and Sire jealous. I guess I underestimated her, but I still refuse to get my hopes up. I did it with Hard Candy and Confessions, which weren't flops, but there were no LAV or ROL. I do hope she does something like "Hung Up" though. That was nice. I still can't stand Nicki Minaj. "Young Money!" WTF. —WP:PENGUIN · [ TALK ] 23:43, 12 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
"You don't need diamond rings or eighteen karat gold..." Nostalgia right there. She has to do something like that. I feel like her older songs sounded a lot like U2 and Bob Dylan. It's just me. I've always loved her tunes and melodies, even if her vocals were meh. Although I didn't like Confessions ("Jump" was a disappointment no doubt), the sampling on "Hung Up" was brilliant. —WP:PENGUIN · [ TALK ] 23:59, 12 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lana Del Rey album, eps etc..

[edit]

An album or an ep does not have to chart to be notable.......look at these:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Leak

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hitmixes

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dance_Remixes

i suggest you be more familiar with the rules of wikipedia.... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Need some hypnotherapy (talkcontribs) 02:00, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Kill Kill EP has two extremely reliable sources in the article........so, you just want more sources?...an article doesn't need excessive million sources saying the exact same thing...its not about the amount of sources........i think we need to open a formal discussion and see what other editors have to say......cause in the end, its not my or your decision.....lets open a discussion, and we will see what the conscious will be.... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Need some hypnotherapy (talkcontribs) 02:10, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Are you even looking at the articles?........The Kill Kill EP and the Lana Del Rey EP both have 2 sources...........and i can easily add another source for the Lana Del Ray album....how much sources more should i add?...cause i can add alot more reliable sources....... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Need some hypnotherapy (talkcontribs) 02:16, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Give me time....im working on all of them.....oh also, i read the rules, and i can't seem to find the part that says an album has to chart to be notable...i can't find it......can you tell me where that is written specifically..... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Need some hypnotherapy (talkcontribs) 02:30, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion

[edit]

I've declined your speedy deletion requests for Hurts Like Heaven and Us Against The World (Coldplay Song). The A3 speedy deletion criterion clearly states that only pages without ANY content are eligible for speedy deletion under it, and each song clearly had content- in fact, they had at least two coherent sentences each.--Slon02 (talk) 04:31, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Single Ladies

[edit]

Hey how are you Zach? Well, I believe you are right but you know the article has just been promoted and "Halo" is actually nominated for FAC. I won't have time to work on it right now. Jivesh1205 (Talk) 05:45, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know how it will be appreciated. People are already moaning (lol) about WFL separate article. Considering that the amount of information in "Single Ladies" cultural impact currently does not equal the amount of information that video has got, I really don't know what to say. Plus, it has just been promoted, won't such a major add / remove of information affect its FA status if not done properly? Added to that, I will have to nominate it for GA, then FA. I am not prepared to face the stress I had on SL third FAC. Have you seen the page? It was never-ending. :P Have a look. Jivesh1205 (Talk) 05:54, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, all of those article are big messes. :D I will tell you later. First, I will have to contact each and every member of the Wiki-project and of course others like (Lego, Nathan, + the copy-editors of SL + those who voted on the FAC) to see what they think. Okay? Jivesh1205 (Talk) 06:10, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) Well I think its a great idea, though it does raise concerns on how much information should be removed from SL's article. It has potential. Best, Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 06:13, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh thanks Jona. And sure Zach but as I told you my main concern for now is "Halo". But I promise I won't forget. Jivesh1205 (Talk) 06:15, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Jennifer Lopez filmography FLC

[edit]

With the thin level of support so far, I don't think the FLC is ready for a result, unfortunately. For now, I'm leaving it up there to allow it the chance to be reviewed further. Be patient and I'm sure things will work out. Also, please consider reviewing one or two of the lists yourself. The fewer lists on FLC, the less competition your list has for reviews! [edit]

Hi Status, I've requested a peer review for the above article, a television programme, because I'd like to nominate it for promotion to G.A. status. If you have the time and the inclination could you please look over the article and leave some comments here? I have contacted one other editors, though whether she'll take part is uncertain.Thank you, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 04:22, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

JLO

[edit]

hi...if you remember me i'm the one that changed the info-box lol. Anyway about the JLO page, i added addition info to her music section....this is my paranoia talking but could you not remove it? Sorry. Its just everything i have done for the page is removed (and i understand why, partially). Thanks. SoapJar 10:08, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

layout

[edit]
Well i will take the liberty of moving Al & Qv to the music career. Also may i put the years back in? It looks better like that and is easier to read the contents as a guide. Also i don't think that AL and Qv should be in that section, its not business (if it were to be done like that, then EVERYTHING would be business, because for her, it technically is.:p). And did u see what i said about the pics? Hope u did.. What about an "Endorsements" section? Many things would fall under this category. Anyway i still think that the movies + music should be merged together. I can have that done (if you and others agree) in a short amount of time. All i need to do is put in the movie sentences in between the music ones, and mix and match it up so it doesn't sound odd. Also – about the Reality section i made; i did that as i was going to add In Living Color to it, and add more info about her dancing etc as it isn't touched on enough. About finding sources for her early days in the business, thats easy. Just type it into a google news archive. IT works wonders :D :D and newspapers can never be turned down as a source. SoapJar 18:52, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Also, if we merged everything together. IT would be SO easy. This would be the contents:
  • Life and Career
  • -1969-1990: early life and career beginnings
  • -1991-1995: Dance and whatever lol
  • -1996-1999: Film breakthrough (that detailing the success[and her succes]]) in selena, Out of sight etc. + being the highest paid latin actress. $$
  • -1999-2001: Focus on music and all round success (about her many #1s and commercial success in music and movies)
  • -2001-2005: this is me the + remixes +films
  • -2006-2009: balh.sdf
  • -2010-: love etc etc and movie projects.
  • Other Ventures

balahahahaa (whatever titles need to be here)

  • (and basically the rest of the page as it stands)?

what do you think? Ok i just saw your comment, ill do that in my sandbox and ill have it done soon hopefully. And btw, Do i include her early life (just the early life as it currently stands) into this? SoapJar 19:05, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, that's impressive Mr. Wiki-Shakespeare. :D What is FML? Can you please give me links to ASCAP and BMI? Jivesh1205 (Talk) 05:48, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Lol. Give me the links please. Jivesh1205 (Talk) 06:09, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, that's great. Thanks a lot. And the BMI one? Jivesh1205 (Talk) 06:16, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Do you think the list should include songs she has written but not recorded? If yes, should there be a separate section? Jivesh1205 (Talk) 06:18, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Where should I put "1+1"? Jivesh1205 (Talk) 06:20, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

are you sure alive wasn't a single/ i remember her on Oprah and another show promoting it as "My new single"...hm...im not sure. Considering she sang it on Oprah i think it was. SoapJar 06:01, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

For the intro paragraph

[edit]

Hey, for the intro paragraph of Jen's article, i was thinking can we incorporate these facts? (As they are more of an overview of her career and the way we are merging her career together doesn't have space for any of this. here:

  • In 2007, Lopez made the Forbes magazine's list of "The 20 Richest Women In Entertainment," ranking ninth.[1]
  • As of 2011, her wealth is estimated to be $150 million.[2]

please let me know, as i am nearly finished with merging her movie career & music career together (actually i am basically done) :) . SoapJar 06:52, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

changed info-box

[edit]

hey..just wanted to let you know i changed JLo's infobox again... My reasoning was this: The actress info-box does nothing but list her family or whatever, which isn't needed. The music box does a bit more, it says her label and genre which isn't a far big difference from the other one. 50% of the article (or more) does focus on her singing career. :\ please don't change it back, hope you know where I'm coming from; plus its been that way a long time... :) Good luck with your school! x SoapJar 10:20, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2012 January newsletter

[edit]

WikiCup 2012 is off to a flying start. At the time of writing, we have 112 contestants; comparable to last year, but slightly fewer than 2010. Signups will remain open for another week, after which time they will be closed for this year. Our currrent far-away leader is Conradh na Gaeilge Grapple X (submissions), due mostly to his work on a slew of good articles about The X-Files; there remain many such articles waiting to be reviewed at good article candidates. Second place is currently held by Minnesota Ruby2010 (submissions), whose points come mostly from good articles about television episodes, although good article reviews, did you knows and an article about a baroness round out the score. In third place is Mauritius Jivesh boodhun (submissions), who has scored 200 points for his work on a single featured article, as well as points for work on others, mostly in the area of pop music. In all, nine users have 100 or more points. However, at the other end of the scale, there are still dozens of participants who are yet to score. Please remember to update your submission pages promptly!

The 64 highest scoring participants will advance to round 2 in a month's time. There, they will be split into eight random groups of eight. The score needed to reach the next round is not at all clear; last year, 8 points guaranteed a place. The year before, 20.

A few participants and their work warrant a mention for achieving "firsts" in this competition.

  • Florida 12george1 (submissions) was the first to score, with his good article review of Illinois v. McArthur.
  • Florida 12george1 (submissions) was also the first to score points for an article, thanks to his work on Hurricane Debby (1982)- now a good article. Tropical storms have featured heavily in the Cup, and good articles currently have a relatively fast turnaround time for reviews.
  • Russia Sp33dyphil (submissions) was the first to score points for a did you know, with Russian submarine K-114 Tula. Military history is another subject which has seen a lot of Cup activity.
  • Russia Sp33dyphil (submissions) is also the first person to successfully claim bonus points. Terminator 2: Judgment Day is now a good article, and was eligible for bonus points because the subject was covered on more than 20 other Wikipedias at the start of the competition. It is fantastic to see bonus points being claimed so early!
  • Byzantine Empire Speciate (submissions) was the first to score points for an In the News entry, with Paedophryne amauensis. The lead image from the article was also used on the main page for a time, and it's certainly eye-catching!
  • Mauritius Jivesh boodhun (submissions) was the first to score points for a featured article, and is, at the moment, the only competitor to claim for one. The article, "Halo" (Beyoncé Knowles song), was also worth double points because of its wide coverage. While this is an article that Jivesh and others have worked on for some time, it is undeniable that he has put considerable work into it this year, pushing it over the edge.

We are yet to see any featured lists, featured topics or good topics, but this is unsurprising; firstly, the nomination processes with each of these can take some time, and, secondly, it can take a considerable amount of time to work content to this level. In a similar vein, we have seen only one featured article. The requirement that content must have been worked on this year to be eligible means that we did not expect to see these at the start of the competition. No points have been claimed for featured portals or pictures, but these are not content types which are often claimed; the former has never made a big impact on the WikiCup, while the latter has not done so since 2009's competition.

A quick rules clarification before the regular notices: If you are concerned that another user is claiming points inappropriately, please contact a judge to take a look at the article. Competitors policing one another can create a bad atmosphere, and may lead to inconsistencies and mistakes. Rest assured that we, the judges, are making an effort to check submissions, but it is possible that we will miss something. On a loosely related note: If you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
