Stan Grodyński (Paris 1982)

An independent mind and an independent spirit!

Interested to learn any background information regarding Andrzej Kusionowicz Grodyński and his close friend Jozef Londzin who succeeded him as editor at GC --StanG 12:16, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Having established that two of Andrzej's brothers, including Józef father of Jerzy who aided in the start-up of the Polish Scout Movement, as well as other family members, also changed their surnames from Kusionowicz to Grodyński, am interested to discover any information that may shed light on the reason for the surname changes from 1893 to 1906 --StanG 11:43, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

Also Interested to learn more background information regarding Stanisław SA Grodyński and his friends in Poland and in London, Count and Countess Tyszkiewicz, Colonel Werobej (pl) and Prince Eugeniusz Lubomirski family. --StanG 12:35, 7 March 2021 (UTC)

Preliminary Background

[edit]

Stanisław Andrzej Aleksander Grodyński ("Stan") was born in 1954 at University College Hospital in London on the celebrated anniversary of the original Polish Constitution. Separated from his father at a young age he was raised, along with his younger brother, by his mother in her home county of Ayrshire where he attended various schools before studying Mechanical Engineering at Strathclyde University in Glasgow. Following his honours graduation he completed the industrial engineering training programme he had commenced as an undergraduate with an assignment as a Sales Project Engineer in the Head Office of Babcock & Wilcox Ltd in London, before joining Schlumberger Oversea SA as a trainee Geoscience Field Engineer in Paris.
Assignments across South East Asia took him to Burma (now Myanmar), Indonesia, Brunei and Malaysia before at the age of 24 he resigned his position as a Senior Field Engineer and subsequently joined Gearhart Industries Inc, based in Fort Worth, Texas, as Asia Business Development Manager and their first representative in the region. After establishing an office in Singapore (and marrying his fiancée Christina Jahja) the Indonesian Government opened up their electric logging services to tender for the first time (following considerable efforts of Stan and the Managing Director of the Indonesian partner company, Robby Mogot) and the company won its first contract in the region.[1] The contract, one of the largest ever awarded in Asia-Pacific for the provision of open and cased hole services, was awarded by PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia for operations in their huge Duri steam flood project and from 1st January 1982 the base built there through the round-the-clock efforts of over 100 dedicated new employees provided a good platform for Gearhart's operations throughout the region. After the winning of further contracts in Indonesia and Malaysia and the establishment of a regional head office and computing centre in Jakarta, in 1984 Stan moved to Brisbane to take up the position of General Manager of Gearhart Australia's operations (which in recent years had been struggling to compete with the technical services provided by his former company, Schlumberger).
Following the successful re-structuring of operations across Australia coupled with the commitment to high quality client service the financial fortunes of the company were turned around as it strategically embarked, for the first time, into the lucrative open hole offshore market of the continent. The service success was coupled with sales success of the innovative ADAS portable electric logging systems into China but the board of directors were not ready to commit to the introduction of services into emerging countries (such as Viet Nam) so Stan resigned before joining with Brett Silvester, previously a field engineer with Gearhart in SE Asia, to launch their own company (in 1987) for the provision of business computer services leveraging PC technology, CIOPS (Key-Ops").
The company grew rapidly in providing technical services across Australia and beyond by hiring technically-proficient services-oriented graduate engineers, including a former colleague at Gearhart, Gordon Adams, who was appointed General Manager in 1990. With the company in good hands Stan embarked on a new high-tech start-up venture as General Manager Asia-Pacific, based in Jakarta, for Magnetic Pulse Inc based in San Francisco, California. Rapid success was achieved with the innovative pulsed-power "Star Wars Technology" on which advanced services were based but when it was decided to restructure the organization with a promotion to Vice President of International Operations based in Houston, Stan declined and instead decided to return to Scotland in 1994. From his home in Scotland he undertook international business development roles with Neuralog Inc, based in Houston, and then HRH Geology Ltd based in Aberdeen, before assisting a former colleague in the development of web-delivered on-demand geoscience software services through a new venture, eGeo LLC. {The development of software based on neural network algorithms, quality control processes and predictive formulae were among early advances of Artificial Intelligence.}
Fortunately these different roles, although demanding in many ways, generally afforded regular family time as well as some time to develop entrepreneurial concepts (which ranged from an efficient round tea bag package to a patented wave energy generator) and to research family ancestry plus contribute to memorials for those who had lived and died for personal freedoms often taken for granted by many today.

Throughout his education and working career Stan enjoyed participating in sport. From his early days playing football (ie soccer) for his school and competing in athletics competitions (with some successes in local sprint competitions supplementing his rather meagre pocket money) through to representing British Universities in international volleyball competition and winning a few golfing trophies in Australia, sport remained an important aspect of his health and well-being. Representing his final secondary school (Irvine Royal\Ravenspark Academy) at volleyball, badminton, rugby, table-tennis, basketball and even cricket, provided a good sporting foundation which enabled a relatively straightforward engagement during his travels in other sports, including tennis, squash and even darts!

Custom signature fix needed

[edit]

Hi there! You have a custom signature set in your account preferences. Changes to Wikipedia's software have made your current custom signature invalid.

The problem: Your signature contains a syntax error or obsolete HTML tags.

The solutions: You can reset your signature to the default, you can fix your signature, or you can do nothing.

Solution 1: Reset your signature to the default:

  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
  3. Remove anything in the Signature: text box.
  4. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page. (Do not click the red "Restore all default settings" button, which will reset all of your preference settings, not just the signature.)

Solution 2: Fix your custom signature:

  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Click the Learn more button next to the error to learn how to fix the error.
  3. Update your signature to fix the error.
  4. Click Save to update to your newly fixed signature.

Solution 3: Do nothing:

  1. In accordance with a recent request for comment, all invalid signatures will be changed to the default, which looks like "Example (talk)", one month from now.

If you have followed these instructions and still want help, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Signatures. Thank you! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 06:05, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
