Hi, you have any sources to expand the article? —Vensatry (ping) 16:02, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
- Vensatry - This seems very interesting - first time i am hearing it. Let me check in local libraries over the weekend to find sources.Ssriram mt (talk) 16:19, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
- Sriram, should the article include all Chola temples built in Karnataka or just Bangalore alone? —Vensatry (ping) 16:26, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
- Karnataka would make it comprehensive. But given that there are a dozen in Bangalore itself, there can be a separate page.Ssriram mt (talk) 16:45, 26 August 2014 (UTC)

Pancha Bhoota Stalam (Sanskrit: पन्च भूत स्थल) refers to the five Shiva temples
Dear Ssriram ji,
We are interested in the method of worship in the Pancha Bhoota Stalams. WE need to know the pujas and yagyas that are done in each place to worship the respective prakriti of the temple. Do you have this knowledge or can you refer us to some experts in this area. Drs. John and Sara Konhaus — Preceding unsigned comment added by JohnKonhaus (talk • contribs) 10:35, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- JohnKonhaus - these temples follow typical worship practices like any other Shiva temple in South India. Check Annamalaiyar Temple - worship is listed in detail.Ssriram mt (talk) 14:56, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

- Hi, it is Manickavasagar, Sambandar, Appar, Sundarar and his consort Paravai Nachiyar in that order. The four are called "Nalvars" in Tamil, the primary four Nayanmars. Out of the 63, not all have sung praises of Shiva and most of them had been ardent devotees. Manickavasagar has been of later origin, but still counted in the 63. The songs of the other three are compiled as Thevaram - there are 276 temples, mostly in South India revered by these 3 and are classified as Padal petra stalam. Most of the large temples in TN carry idols of the 63 in the first precinct and the smaller ones have the images of the primary four. Kapaleeswarar Temple in Chennai has a festival called "Arabathimoovar", where the processional images of the 63 are carried round Mylapore.Ssriram mt (talk) 16:33, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

Indic
Greetings, I am here to inquire as to the use of WP:INDIC names and translations in several district and city articles of TN. Though I understand, the general notion is to refrain from using other language names on the article's lead, and alternatively they can be used within infoboxes of the article. For instance check Bengaluru Urban or Thiruvananthapuram district or Hyderabad district. Hence, I find it curious when you removed all the Tamil names to the districts, and perhaps it would be nice of you to clarify. The native name and language is really one of the significant aspect to any article especially for strangers and those unaware of the places/people/culture, more than what we may tend to opine. Thank you--CuCl2 (chat spy acquaint) 08:18, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
- user:Copperchloride - there was a consensus earlier on removing the Indic characters on all the place names, which is otherwise rested on individual language Wikis. Also, wikidata has all the necessary links.Ssriram mt (talk) 15:16, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
- Im also aware of wikidata links, but here we are talking of etymologies in native language which is crucial to the understanding of the reader. If you delve into the same french or tamil pages for these exact articles, there you are bound to find the mention of the place name in the original native language. That is why I have offered you the examples of Bengaluru and Hyderabad pages to substantiate my point. In all those articles you had edited out, the INDIC script was not anywhere on the lead or in the content(which i am aware is the general case in most articles) but within infoboxes where especially a tab for native name and language had been allocated. Looking for your speedy clarifications on this.--CuCl2 (chat spy acquaint) 16:15, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
- It hardly makes a difference especially on the district pages, which are all but post-independent entities and don't have any historic reference. The data/ names are misleading in some cases like Erode district, which is given as "Periyar" in the infobox, while the name has been abolished long ago. Second, the jurisdiction of the districts and names have been in and out. The original idea of having it was linguistic sources, which, very-well, is covered by wikidata. I won't run reverts here - the district pages hardly have any content or meaningful additions for years now. I earlier did some additions in Nagapattinam district - probably would target for all others. Ssriram mt (talk) 05:08, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

Arni, Tamilnadu state
Hi Ssriram, This is to bring to your kind notice that you were repeatedly editing my additional information not even confirming with local Arni people regarding rice mill history under Industry. Now you have totally removed the title of "Industry" for Arni. I sincerely feel this is totally unfair. Because for your information, I am from that Naidu family, and I am the living person of that rice mill named after my name in the year back 1960s. You can verify Arni state government records from their office. By the by I would like to know Sir, you might have visited many places and collected some superficial information. But I am sorry to tell you and inform you I was born and brought up from Arni only. My date of birth is in 1955 and I am now 61 years old and just retired as a class I Gazetted Officer from Central Govt. Office recently and living in Mumbai presently.
I would appreciate. "Google" authorities to interfere and find out the truth in my corrections which I made on September 13, 2015. I want Mr. Ssriram to think about all these things and I request to retain my additions information on Arni, Tamilnadu Wikipidia article under "Industry". I hope my explanations would be sufficient for my insisting the article should contain rice mill informations oldest in nature during 1960-1975. I request authorities should do the needful.

Religious data
Hi, please don't add this for Chennai, Trichy, Coimbatore, Madurai, Erode, Tiruppur, and Vellore as all these local bodies underwent an expansion post 2010-11. The census data doesn't reflect this. —Vensatry (ping) 11:12, 11 October 2015 (UTC)
- Hi - i checked the data of these corporations (like Trichy corp having 847,387) - the religious census is mentioned as of 2011 and matches the demographic data we have given there earlier. We always have ever expanding cities- is it not the case for population data too? I didnt check for UA - do you think that needs to be given? Ssriram mt (talk) 11:50, 11 October 2015 (UTC)
- The 8.4 L figure corresponds to the old city limits. The post-expansion population is around 9.16 L, so is the discrepancy. —Vensatry (ping) 12:11, 11 October 2015 (UTC)
- Not really for cities in TN - Madurai was expanded only now after being upgraded as a corporation in 1971. Same with Coimbatore (1981) and Trichy (1994). For Trichy, the expansion isn't really worthwhile. But Coimbatore and Madurai both have now become more than twice their previous sizes. The revised population figures of Madurai Corp. is slightly more than the UA itself. The difference is even more for smaller cities like Tiruppur, Erode, Vellore, Karur. You might want to read this document. —Vensatry (ping) 12:24, 11 October 2015 (UTC)
- The CMA data is not actually a reliable one IMO - there are innumerable mistakes i have observed while compiling other data (list on revenue administration, funds etc). Also, if you observe, some of them seem to be rounded and CMA themselves quote that it is based on 2011 census and not anything further. My point is the population mentioned in the city data currently (Trichy - 847,387) is what is computed for religious census as well - so we have a baseline. Why is Trichy not updated with 9L data given in the CMA doc? I basically don't get the point as we have census data in the current page as 847,387 and religion data also for 847,387, then why leave religion data alone?Ssriram mt (talk) 13:12, 11 October 2015 (UTC)
- I agree, they seemed to have rounded off the figures for Chennai and Coimbatore, but the rest looks fine. There is no question of doubting its reliability as it's a govt. website. Coming to Trichy, the source does list the population as 916,857 and not 847,387. On the other hand the census data, though accurate, doesn't take the city expansion into account. Take Chennai for instance, it was expanded from a mere 174 to 426 sq. km. The census data tells the population as 4,681,087 as it only considers the pre-expansion limits. The expanded city limits (based on 2011 census of course) would take the city's population to well over 6.5 million. Can you see the difference? —Vensatry (ping) 14:41, 11 October 2015 (UTC)
- The 8.4 L figure corresponds to the old city limits. The post-expansion population is around 9.16 L, so is the discrepancy. —Vensatry (ping) 12:11, 11 October 2015 (UTC)
