AfC notification: Draft:Joseph Borg has a new comment

[edit]
I've left a comment on your Articles for Creation submission, which can be viewed at Draft:Joseph Borg. Thanks! Nomadicghumakkad (talk) 01:57, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much ! We are still new to the system. So any kind / gentle help will be appreciated ☺️ - our main emphasis is the fact that for the first time ever - Malta has sent its presence on board the International Space Station via Joseph Borg. He worked closely with ESA, NASA - and used the SpaceX CRS23 mission (august to September 2021) to achieve this. Please take a look at all the external links too. Including the notable mentions on NASAs own highlights website. Thank you SpaceOMIX (talk) 05:47, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, SpaceOMIX. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Draft:Joseph Borg (scientist), you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 16:51, 24 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of name and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Orange Mike | Talk 17:37, 24 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I am indeed a biomedical scientist, working in Malta at the national hospital labs. I have followed very closely the works of Professor Borg and his team, and I was a past student of his for my undergraduate dissertation back in 2011/2012. I do not have compensation, and was not aware of an ethical breach to be writing about my past mentor at the University. I share a passion on biomedical science and space research and consequently approached Professor Borg and whether he would mind me taking liberty about writing on the National Project Maleth that lifted off last August September and returned in October 2021. His answer was a positive one, and the result was the page you see. However - if I understand well, I must refrain from writing anything connected directly to him, my institution, and the whole space project since this will be perceived as conflict of interest ? If that is the case I will comply. I would like to check therefore, in order for this work to be brought to light, would one simply leave it to chance ? or may I approach people /editors online on wikipedia that may have an interest on the topic ? I thank the community here, and apologies for having caused inconvenience

Accept reason:

On the basis that you have said you will refrain from making edits related to your COI, I will remove the block. 331dot (talk) 15:11, 26 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Most articles are typically written by independent editors, who take note of a subject receiving significant coverage in independent reliable sources and choose on their own to write about it, showing how it meets the special Wikipedia definition of notability. I guess technically that is leaving it to chance- though independent editors seeing sources about a topic is usually a good indicator for notability, as opposed to someone with a conflict of interest trying to force the issue. Users are able to request the creation of articles at Requested Articles, though there is a severe backlog. Since you seem to understand that you shouldn't make further conflict of interest related edits(at this time), what topics do you intend to edit about instead? 20:29, 24 November 2021 (UTC)331dot (talk)

Account renamed from SpaceOMIX. 331dot (talk) 20:31, 24 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

In that case - I would like to do two things perhaps . One would be , covering as they may occur , science events that take place in Malta with a notable interest for the euro med region. And secondly , I’d like to stick around the community to learn more , ensure not to repeat mistakes and conflicts and be able to one day Correct, guide and instruct others - pretty much like orangemike did - however it will take me some time to achieve that level I am sure 😌

I would urge you to review guidance for expert editors, but I will ask Orangemike what he thinks about this. 331dot (talk) 10:23, 26 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much . Much appreciated.
