Speedy deletion nomination of User:SotoWriters
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on User:SotoWriters, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which articles can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may be soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
- It appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, and/or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free Web hosting service. (See section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion.)
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 15:36, 19 August 2015 (UTC) You have become angry with us and deleted what we wrote as our introductory page. We did this in good faith as outlined in the 'Adventurer' application that came on screen and showed us an example. We had no intention of using it for free advertising and apologise for any offence caused.SotoWriters (talk) 15:45, 19 August 2015 (UTC)SotoWriters

Please help me with...Mission 1. We followed it then got accused of unmentionables. To make it clear, we had something speedily deleted for apparently heinous crimes when all we were doing was following the mission 1º outline. Hardly seems fair. It's not like we thought it would be posted live. . .
SotoWriters (talk) 15:52, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
- Hello! No one is accusing you of heinous crimes. While I can't see the content of your Wikipedia user page now that it's been deleted, based off the reason for deletion it appears to have been too promotional in nature. Wikipedia has a userpage guideline that covers what can and cannot be on a user's talk page, but in a nutshell: your userpage is a place to introduce you to Wikipedia as a Wikipedia editor. That means having information primarily about how you contribute to Wikipedia, with limited background information about yourself. I do apologize if The Wikipedia Adventure script did not properly convey this information to you. I'll post a note on Wikipedia talk:The Wikipedia Adventure to direct the attention of its editors here to see if any changes should be made. Cheers, Nick—Contact/Contribs 16:20, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

Problems starting your userpage
[edit]Hello SotoWriters. I'm sorry you had a bad experience right out of the gate. I built The Wikipedia Adventure and it's designed to avoid that happening. Here's the problem (there are actually two):
- Your page included an offer of commercial services "We have three websites, one of which offers a host of FREE writing advice via blogs posted by guests and Sotogrande Writing Club members. In another, we offer a commercial editing and manuscript service. . . which brings us to our mission, and YES, we have chosen to accept it! Help with copyedits and anything else you choose to throw at us." This is against our policy and your page was deleted because of it. You can edit your userpage with information about an individual and your background, but not promoting your services.
- Your username is also in violation of our policy. It's only permissible for an account to represent a single individual, not an entire company or organization. Please go to WP:CHUS and request to have it changed, or more simply just register a new account. An acceptable alternative would be something like JohnAtSohoWriters, or SotoWritersAmy
In general, we would welcome your copyediting help, but Wikipedia cannot be the place for your company to promote itself, or present itself as an entity with multiple contributors under one account.
I hope this helps you understand and feel welcomed nonetheless.
Best, Jake Ocaasi t | c 16:38, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
Hello Jake, Thanks for taking the time to provide constructive feedback. Your advice will be followed. In fact we'll just hang back and let individual members carry on the good work from their private accounts and not take up any more of your time. SotoWriters (talk) 16:48, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
