Welcome

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Take a look at the welcome page. To stay in Wikipedia, an article has to be about something notable, that is, of general interest. Click on Notability for an explanation of what that means, and on Notability (organizations and companies) for more detail. Also, it must be verifiable from reliable sources that are independent of the subject. Articles that don't meet these requirements are likely to be deleted.

Notability of University departments

[edit]

Hi. I should warn you that articles about schools or departments within a university are liable to be challenged on grounds of notability, and that (although precedent is not necessarily binding) the precedent established in previous deletion discussions, documented at WP:OUTCOMES#Education, is that:

Departments or degree programs within a university, college, or school are not notable unless they have made significant contributions to their field (e.g., University of Chicago Department of Economics), or produced a number of notable graduates (USC School of Cinematic Arts, Oxford PPE).

You can find useful information at Wikipedia:College and university article guidelines.
