Scottish articles
Hi. I live in Edinburgh. What can I help you with? --Guinnog 10:52, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks! I've just copyedited Pumpherston. I think I once did Craigmillar too, but you're right that both articles could do with help. Photos would be an obvious thing; of course they need to be free as well as being good, which is hard.
- You might be interested in Wikipedia:WikiProject Scotland; why not join? There are quite a few Scottish Wikipedians. Take care, --Guinnog 11:11, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- Road networks! There are quite a few roads without their own articles. A701 (road) is one I have often thought of starting. What about railways too? --Guinnog 11:20, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
http://www.railscot.co.uk/ is an excellent source for railways if you were thinking of doing any of the needed articles. --Guinnog 11:28, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
Upcoming template changes
Hi, I've just noticed that you recently left a templated userpage message. I'm just bringing to your attention that the format and context of these templates will be shortly changing. It is recommended that you visit WikiProject user warnings and harmonisation discussion pages to find out how these changes could affect the templates you use. We also would appreciate any insights or thoughts you may have on the subject. Thanks for your understanding. Best regards Khukri (talk . contribs) 11:33, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Re: Signature help
How do I make my signature similar to your excellent one?? SunStar Net 19:14, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- If you mean my old one, the code is <span style="border:1px solid #808;padding:1px;"><span style="color:#fff;background:#808;">(aeropa</span><span style="color:#808;background:#fff;">gitica)</span></span>; if you mean my current version, the code is (aeropagitica). You enter the code on to My Preferences at the top of each page when you are logged in. Make sure to tick the 'raw signature' box before you save. I would recommend the shorter of the two, as it interferes less with contributions to Project and Talk pages. If you are going to use the more colourful version, please change it and make the colours and style different to mine. There are hundreds of pages with the signaure still extant, so it will confuse other users if they are too similar! Regards, (aeropagitica) 19:27, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks, aeropagitica! btw, where did you get your username from?? mine is from my university business systems project! --SunStarNet; 19:32, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Donna Summer
Hey, I don't know too much about Donna Summer, but I can help out. I gave the article a look and cleaned it up a bit. Currently, the article doesn't cite any references, so finding sources is one of the most important tasks to get it to WP:GA status. Also, trivia sections are frowned upon so any notable information in that section should be merged into the biography sections of the article. --musicpvm 13:06, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

I'll see what I can do. Incidentally, did you mean to tag your user page for deletion? --Guinnog 14:45, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Can you delete the 1st revision of for me, it was a bad upload... Thanks, SunStar Net 07:56, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

You put a {cleanup} tag on the article. Executive Order 13292. Were you planning to offer an explanation for this tag on Talk:Executive Order 13292?
When the tag expands it tells readers to look at the talk page for an xplanation from the person who added the tag. IMO, the explanation for tags like this shouldn't be considered to be optional.

WP:AIV usernames
I've got the new user log covered, so you don't have to keep listing bad usernames on the vandalism page. -- King of ♥ ♦ ♣ ♠ 22:49, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
Agreed, please don't do that, most have been blocked anyway and it just creates a massive backlog there. // Pilotguy (Cleared to land) 00:34, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
No problem, we do have patrollers montioring newusers logs so they usually are blocked quickly anyway. Do, however, continue to use AIV for blatant vandalism. Thanks for your understanding. // Pilotguy (Cleared to land) 00:39, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
Publicopinion
Hi, I noticed you listed User:Publicopinion for blocking due to having a "POV username". He's blocked now anyway, so I guess I'm a bit late, but how was the name POV? --tjstrf Now on editor review! 22:51, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

Pelican shit
For what reason did you find it fit to tag User:Pelican Shit as an indefinitely blocked user again? The user has been blocked since March of 2005 and has zero contributions. The user's page has been deleted several times [1]. Why did you find it fit to tag it again despite this? Metros232 00:16, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
- He's banned. That's the reason he's tagged. --SunStar Net 00:17, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
- But he's been banned for over a year and a half and has no contributions to Wikipedia. Why would anyone care? We don't need to tag all banned users. Take a look at the deletion log for User:TheM62Manchester's user page. "Denying vandals userpages" is one of the entries you'll see and you'll notice that after it was recreated, it was deleted again after a month of being tagged as indefinitely blocked. There's no need to point out that users have been blocked if you can find it in the block log. Metros232 01:09, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
I've delisted User:Dan`n`Noel from WP:AIV as there has been no obvious vandalism. If you think its a shared account you can list on WP:AN/I. Thanks, — xaosflux Talk 17:08, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

A comment about WP:AIV
Hi, I see you're asking for an editor review, so... :-) I noticed that you report a lot of WP:USERNAME violations to WP:AIV. I was surprised to see some pretty harmless names being added: xx_laure92_xx, Sleeper86, LeeBruceMan; and when I looked back in to the log, I noticed this message from Konstable a few hours ago: "declining username blocks on: BeachClub06, D000242, Remingtonsteele2 and Desai.666". You might want to relax just a bit on reporting username violations; we don't want admins to spend a lot of time on frivolous reports while there are active vandals waiting to be blocked. -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 14:39, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
Tagging pages
As above with Pelican Shit. We aren't a work creation project, you seem to be spending time doing pointless activities, was anyone confused as to the status of that user? Did changing the template help to improve the encyclopedia in any way? As per WP:AN/I the project is not about vandals and vandalism. --pgk 20:37, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- I didn't say everything you have done is pointless, just chasing down very old pages and adding tags to them is pretty pointless. Reporting the dodgy usernames as listed above you seem to have been fairly over zealous about as either names which aren't problematic and in some instance have been blocked before you reported them. If you want to improve (a) make sure the things you do, you do well - don't get concerned with volume (quality not quantity) there are no prizes for tagging the most pages/dishing out the most barnstars/adding the most "me too" comments to discussions etc. (There are some who have found that these activities have actually "counted against" them when being reviewed on things like RFA) (b) Step back and ask yourself why you are doing something, is it to help build/improve the encyclopedia or is it just "busy work"? Tagging old pages afresh (or retagging them) without reason is the latter. --pgk 21:05, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

thanks for the offer. i'm not sure how good our coverage is at the moment: if i was focusing on anything in particular i'd go for all the chesters and all the county towns, and making sure generic placename articles like Ashby and Broughton and Sutton have such things. Sprotection template
I agree that your newer version is better worded, but I think the less words, the better. If a new format could be placed into this template to make it less bulky and space consuming, it might be worth changing. Currently, if the template formatting is like that, I don't support changing as it would make it bigger than it currently is.
But I thank you as I was going to see if a new format could be placed on these dull-gray templates and make it more attractive. I will definantly consider using your wording for a new formatting, which I will attempt later on :) semper fi — Moe 01:09, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

Image:DaewooNexia3.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:DaewooNexia3.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add Replaceable fair use disputed, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --ccwaters 14:55, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

I've added the "prod" template to the article Urbis ZX1, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at Talk:Urbis ZX1. You may remove the dated prod template, and the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. -- THLCCD 12:39, 19 November 2006 (UTC).

Hi SunStar, when you get the time, please have a look at the discussion at Arabian Gulf. Jidan 20:13, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
- The critical part is the introduction, I propose something similar to britanica, see Talk:Persian_Gulf#Persian.2FArabian_Gulf. Jidan 21:20, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for your comment. The problem is, the Iranian editors(and they are maaany!) will NEVER allow the alternative name to be mentioned at the introduction, read what they did to National Geographic when they tried this [3]. What can we do about it? Is there a way to fully-protect just one part of the article, i.e. the introduction, leaving the rest open for editing? Jidan 22:25, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
- There is no alternative name for the Persian Gulf. Let me give you a brief history, something which Jidan obviously doesnt want you to know about, since he hasnt mentioned anything about it. The term Arabian Gulf was first brought into use by the British, during their colonial rule in the Middle East. Their only competition to influence the Persian Gulf region was Iran. The Ottomans were defeated, the Arabs were free, and what better way to create divisions among this new Middle East than to create ethnic tensions (divide and conquer). The term "Arabian Gulf", which was historically the name of the Red Sea, did not stick, and Arab governments continued to call that body of water the Persian Gulf. It was not until the coming of Arab nationalism and the pan Arabism of the 1960's that Arab governments started to use the term Arabian Gulf. People such as Nasser, Saddam Hussein, and other leaders used racist propaganda to further their position. The UN twice declared that Persian Gulf is the only term for this body of water. Clearly, the term Arabian Gulf was politically motivated, and is not a legitimate name. It should also be mentioned that not all Arabs nor all Arab governments even consider it the Arabian Gulf. If Iran tomorrow decided to change the name of the Arabian Sea to the Persian Sea, this would not make Persian Sea an alternative name. The term Arabian Gulf is much like the word n**ger. The motives behind it are political and racist, they deal with pan Arabism and people like Saddam Hussein's idea that Arabs are a superior race to the "Persian dogs". No wonder Iranians are so sensitive about the issue. For almost 3000 years this body of water has had one constant name, the Persian Gulf.Khosrow II 06:39, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Sensitive information was added that needed deletion. I hope that's sufficiant. :) RadioKirk (u|t|c) 21:22, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
- And to elaborate, deleting it from the article wouldn't have been sufficient, as it would still be in the history, so the article had to be deleted to remove the item from the history.--Vercalos 21:26, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

What are you asking for? Do you want me to give you pointers or to actually contribute to the article. If the latter, please consider nominating it for the Wikipedia:Cinema Collaboration of the Week. If the former, you can nominate it for a peer review by the Films Project. Cbrown1023 02:18, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Would it be wrong for me to move old Wikipedia:Votes for deletion pages to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/X pages, or would I have to get consensus for this?? --SunStar Nettalk 20:36, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
- I never really thought about that, heh. My guess is that people will want them where they are (in part because VfD was also used for templates, miscellany pages, and all that stuff, I believe). But it couldn't hurt to ask at the village pump. Hope that helps! Luna Santin 20:44, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Entries "Service Manager","Report Manager","Technisoft"
I'm after some guidance here ...
I added the subject entries as a new contributor. These entries are not spam. I do concede however that they relate to company and company product information.
"Service Manager" is one of the most widely respected service management software products in use worldwide. A Google search of "technisoft service manager" will return 1000+ hits. At what point does a company or company product become notable enough to allow it to have a Wikipedia entry?
"Microsoft Dynamics GP" is a competing software product that does have a Wikipedia entry ...
I am happy to remove the "Report Manager" entry. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Fkrugerx (talk • contribs) 00:35, 8 December 2006 (UTC).
Clement of Dunblane
Calgacus is off on his holidays. I don't know when he'll be back. As far as Clement of Dunblane goes, all it really needs is new pairs of eyes to spot anything that isn't clear, or could be better worded. If you've time to read it through, even just to read a few paragraphs, looking for anything that could be reworded to make it more readable, that would be a big help. If you've any questions, please let me know. I have a vague idea of the background. All the best, Angus McLellan (Talk) 16:44, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
- Just anything that seems like it could be better written. I'd have a go at it, but I'm afraid I've read it too often to be able to spot any mistakes easily. Jocelin has long paragraphs and it's a featured article, so I don't think that's necessarily a problem. It could well be that there aren't any obvious things, in which case it's a matter of waiting to see what comments are left at the review page. Cheers, Angus McLellan (Talk) 16:50, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
Comment about editor review
Hello there! When re-requesting a review, please do not post the old one, but instead create a new one. Also, remember that there are several users who have been waiting for reviews, and so try to help with some reviews if you are going to re-request one, otherwise those users lose priority in the queue. Thank you for understanding. -- ReyBrujo 16:59, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
Restoring sockpuppet pages
SunStar Net wrote:
- Can you please restore User:Braaad, since this user has been involved in sockpuppetry (see Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Braaad for details) --SunStar Nettalk 12:49, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
- Please restore the category as well, too, if you can. This user also had an RFC: Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Braaad as well. --SunStar Nettalk 12:50, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
Hi, I've restored the userpage you mentioned. The category, though, was speedy deleted back in July 2006, as it was empty, and User:Braaad was never actually in the category. Do you still want me to restore it? – Gurch 12:54, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
- User:Wiki brah (and talk page) restored. Yes, as you've probably gathered, I've been deleting a lot of userpages of indefinitely blocked users. My intention though is not to get rid of banned users, sockpuppets or users suspected of using sockpuppets, as I see the need for these to stay. Only vandals, and users with offensive usernames, for which there is no point retaining a userpage, especially when the title of the page is actually offensive. I'm not deleting userpages if they're tagged as banned or with any sort of sockpuppet template, or users who from their talk page are clearly involved with this sort of thing; but it's possible that (as in this case) I deleted some that should stay, for which I apologize – Gurch 13:20, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
- (Note: you may want to tag the userpages with a more specific template than the standard indefblocked one, e.g. banned, if that helps keep track of things) – Gurch 13:23, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, just as I said that you put the sockpuppet template on one; I guess I don't need to suggest it then :) – Gurch 13:24, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Are used car buyer's guides/national car magazines considered a reliable source for trim level detail on cars?? When I get information for trim levels, it's taken from these. Examples include Motor Trend etc. --SunStar Nettalk 17:04, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- They seem to meet the criteria on the WP:RS page you linked quite well (not as well as perfect sources, but not badly), so probably. You might want to ask at Wikipedia talk:Reliable sources to get wider input. --ais523 17:08, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

- Thanks. First step is waiting for the checkuser report to come back. Then I'm not quite sure how to go about making the abuse report (if the checkuser confirms the sockpuppet). Wikiproject Automobiles Notification
Hi SunStar Net, you were on the list of members at WikiProject Automobiles and we are introducing a new way of listing members, as the old list was becoming too long. Our new method involves having all of our members in a category.
To add yourself to the category just add the userbox to your user page by putting Wiki Auto Project where you want the userbox. Alternatively if you don't like the userbox you can add to your userpage.
If you no longer wish to be a member of the project, simply don't add the userbox or category, there's no pressure. Thanks for your time, James086Talk | Contribs 04:30, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
Username reports to AIV
Sunstar, I'm not sure trawling the new user log for people to report to AIV really has much point. If they haven't even edited, there's not much point in blocking them (this can always be done later if necessary) as most accounts don't have even a single edit, and it's pretty confrontational to get your username blocked right off the bat. Also, several of the names you've reported (jesus baby and that Arabic one) don't violate Wikipedia:Username in a way I can see. "Why_wont_you_let_me_have_a_name" may yet be blocked, but it probably be better just to report them in a big bunch to WP:ANI when you're done watching the log for a bit, and perhaps excluding those who haven't even edited, as blocking them is probably, as aforementioned, pointless. This is just a suggestion; my interpretation of policy is my own, but I'd appreciate a reply. Here is fine.--Kchase T 23:42, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
- Got your message. My mistake. I'm sorry. I see the section of policy that covers these now. Nonetheless, I'd still suggest not reporting them to AIV. It's more for rapid-fire responses to vandalism. ANI or reporting to AIV in a bunch is probably a better method.--Kchase T 23:45, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Four speedy deletes on one page
Wow, I can't believe that you are using four speedy deletes on one page after I tagged it (Justin Gammon) lol. Bearly541 13:49, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, was that really necessary? One speedy tag is pretty sufficient as only one is needed to add it to the category. I think that any admin could figure out just why exactly that article needed to be deleted with simply one tag on it. Thanks, Metros232 14:04, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
Subst'ed indefblock templates
Hi,
if you create userpages for indefinitely blocked accounts (I don't think User:Monkeygrl needs a userpage, but won't delete it right now if you feel she should have one), please either do not subst the indefblocked template (as it says on the template) or add the Category:Temporary Wikipedian userpages to the page so these pages will be deleted once we are certain that the page is longer useful. Thank you, Kusma (討論) 14:11, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
- I think the talk page and block log messages are more than sufficient, especially for a user with no contributions whose userpages no Wikipedian (except for those who happen to check the block log) is ever going to see. Kusma (討論) 14:20, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Ottawaman
Hey SunStar, thanks for your message and your help. Thankyou also for your supportive words. I often feel a bit out there on my own in dealing with this nut, so I really do appreciate it. Before coming to WP, this guy was community banned from Wikinews. So I think a WP:ABUSE complaint is an excellent idea because this is obviously a pattern of abuse rather than an isolated incident. I've been keeping a record of the IPs he's used for a while now to try to establish a pattern for range blocks etc and so we do have a fair amount of evidence to use. It's a very good suggestion, thanks. :) Sarah Ewart 06:20, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

- Well, I've never seen Ottawaman use that kind of language or write those kinds of attack pages. He did write some attack pages but they were just claiming admin abuse rather than anything like this SunStar page. Also, I don't think Lucky, Brian0918 and Brian Crawford had anythng at all to do with Ottawaman. Sarah 21:16, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

Roman Coinage
Hi, I've been working on Roman Republican coinage, have added a list of republican moneyers (which I intended to eventually point to many individual pages for individual moneyers), and am now drafting Ancient Technology of Coinage. I also have plans for some kind of article on economics/ usage of ancient coinage. What exactly did you have in mind? I could provide some help in imperial coinage, but much less than in republican. I would certainly like input in the republican area. Curtius 01:39, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Your WP:AIV report on Freelance Media
Hi SunStar Net,
This is just to let you know that I removed your report on Freelance Media because that account has not performed any vandalism. Please note that Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism is for cases of simple vandalism. You may wish to look at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest for guidelines on how to deal with accounts with commercial user names. --Deathphoenix ʕ 17:14, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Ex-wikipedian temporarily?
Don't people normally just use wikibreak for that? --tjstrf talk 01:27, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, with the "looks like a sockpuppet" thing? Well, not much you can do about that one, people will think what they think. If the guy's going to vandalize your talk page through socks, you could always have it semi-protected. --tjstrf talk 01:36, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Although I am not planning to run for RFA now, would the fact I am applying to be a sysop on another Wikimedia project be a good or a bad thing (assuming by the time I have my next RFA, I am a sysop at whichever Wikimedia project it is!) at an adminship request?? --SunStar Nettalk 00:13, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- I don't think it would be an "any"thing, one way or the other. BTW, I'm not sure a helpme is appropriate here, I think yoy'd have better luck on the RFA page's Discussion pages (that sounds odd). Anyway, hope that helps. If it does you might want to remove the helpme. Maury 00:20, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- Hehe... it's standard practice to remove the helpme after you have answered a question, but then continue the conversation after the helpme is removed. This prevents spam in #wikipedia-bootcamp on freenode, where every 3 minutes a list of pages with the template is sent into the chatroom. GofG ||| Contribs 01:04, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
