Invitation to Meetup/Seattle6, a focus group

[edit]

Hello. I'm part of a research group at the University of Washington (Seattle campus), and my group is reaching out to Wikipedians in the Puget Sound area. We're hosting a focus group designed to gather information on what Wikipedians would like to know about each other when interacting on Wikipedia. Our end goal is to create an embedded application that helps people quickly know more about others' history and activity on Wikipedia, and we feel our design will be much more useful if it's based on insights of users like you.

I'm hoping that the chance to help out local researchers, to engage in lively face-to-face discussion with other Seattle Wikipedians, and to contribute to Wikipedia in a new way will entice you to join us. The session lasts 2 hours and snacks are provided. Sessions will be held on UW Seattle campus - directions will be sent after registration. Your contribution will be greatly appreciated!

Willing and able to help us out? RSVP here. Want to know more? Visit our user talk page . Please help us contact other local Wikipedians, too! Commprac01 (talk) 01:16, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just a word...

[edit]

...to say kudos on the talk page for Concerned Women for America, back in '07 about the so-called "weasel words" and other nonsense. The user was clearly a whitewasher of the issues. It's always nice to see a user back up her or his points with legitimacy in the face of clear bias. High five!Luminum (talk) 07:30, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, it's been a long time since I've been on. Yeah, thanks ^_^ I don't even understand where he was going with the whitewash. I mean, it's not like they hide anything. It's all right there out in the open, really.Solarbird (talk) 05:01, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

NEW CATEGORY PAGE

[edit]

Hello Washington-user!! What do you think of this category?
Either on a scale of 1-10 or with commentary.
Let me know through the "Special:EmailUser/" section. #TTiT# 13:41, 14 August 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by The-Traveller-in-Tacoma (talkcontribs)

Do you write a Tumblr post about the incident on Wikipedia?

[edit]

I have a link by someone who is named 'Solarbird' at Tumblr.com and who has written about such things regarding Wikipedia. The arguments and the like exhibit identical statures as you and your arguments on the talk page. Did you write it? Tutelary (talk) 19:40, 20 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sure did. I wrote a few posts, specifically saying I'm the same person on both. I asked Wikipedians to come help out and weigh in on this subject, because at the time I was being bum-rushed by multiple people and I didn't want to carry this torch solo. Things have calmed down since then, which is good. Why? Solarbird (talk) 00:57, 21 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Because asking people to come help out on Wikipedia with your own argument or discussion is disallowed per WP:CAN. You doing it is a blatant violation and as a result, some SPAs have involved themselves in the discussion. Additionally, the blog also represents attempting to advocate for the point of view which is not permitted. Additionally, unless you can prove that that is your blog and release the rights under CC BY SA 3.0, it cannot be used on Wikipedia. Please see WP:DCM for more information. I've removed it again until you do such. Reinserting copyright violations is a quick way to get yourself blocked. Tutelary (talk) 01:20, 21 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, you'll do anything, won't you? I WROTE IT HERE FIRST. IT SAYS ON THE REPOST I WROTE IT HERE FIRST. THEREFORE, THE RIGHTS RULES OF HERE APPLY FIRST. Solarbird (talk) 01:32, 21 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The blogpost on Solarbird.tumblr.com was posted at the exact same time you made that edit. That's some really good clicking and posting skills. Given the same name and the antics and the confirmation right above, it's pretty much 100% yours. The reason I saw to affirm it was a copyright violation was crimeandtheforcesofevil.com/ <- that website where it copy and pasted the entire thing I saw without the note on top. The website is down so I can't really confirm that it's without the note on the top, but I saw it had the exact same copy and paste text. This was a mistake on my part and I apologize. However, what's your response to the clear advocacy exhibited on said blog towards the topic, and the canvassing? Tutelary (talk) 01:49, 21 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it's called "software." I use it to repost things. It's fast; posts will often have the same timestamp to the minute. As for the band-blog version supposedly not having the same text on the top: in fact, it did. You may see other software echoes of the band blog post at http://solarbird.dreamwidth.org/1297204.html and http://solarbird.livejournal.com/1301425.html. Note the name "solarbird" in all of those; note the same header text. The main band site is down at the moment because we're having a power blackout; I am quite literally posting this by candlelight. I'd take a picture but frankly I can't be bothered.
As for the rest, I am done with someone who repeatedly lies about what I've said and done; you came at me out of nowhere with censorship, reversions, and then threats to ban for a fraudulent accusation - all in all, a shocking degree of bad faith. I have no reason whatever to think this will change now, so I am done. Please do not communicate with me further, and stop deleting my Talk content. Thank you. Solarbird (talk) 02:11, 21 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
For clarification, and this'll be the last post I make to your talk page (which you're free to revert) I am not an administrator. I cannot block people or anything related. For the advocacy and the canvassing, I'll make a note on the talk page since it's relevant that one editor is trying to invite editors of the same POV to a discussion. Nonetheless, sorry about the power outage and the general troubles. ^^ Tutelary (talk) 02:15, 21 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

I just wanted to say, thanks for being the standard-bearer on the Korrasami fight. My family is in town for the holidays so I didn't have the time or the emotional energy to be the tent-pole, but I was following it closely. And obviously you didn't do it for me, but I really appreciate that someone was willing to wade hip-deep into that mess and stand up for it. I tried to add a few links to your Big List and such, but mostly I could only be a spectator. I'm a cisgender straight male, but one of my best friends is a lesbian and ever since meeting her I've been really, personally invested in portrayals of LGBT relationships (not to mention a huge Korrasami fan, on just a fan level).

Anyway, the creators have weighed in and the fight is over, but given how many negative things you had hurled at you on that page (and on your talk page, I see), I thought you should know that there are people out there who were rooting for you, and appreciating your efforts. Thank you. Merry Christmas (if that's your thing) and Happy Holidays. Nerrolken (talk) 06:03, 23 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I had the advantage of being right the whole time which I have to say doesn't hurt anything. XD I was pretty angry when my contributions started being erased from the article, tho'. And the whole thing was certainly stressful. But, well, the facts were so completely on our side that even before the announcement, we'd got to the point where Asami Soto was going to be listed as at least a significant other, with discussion of the reaction below.
But, yeah. A matter about which I didn't realise how passionately I felt until it was happening. (I talk about that a little at my band blog: http://crimeandtheforcesofevil.com/blog/2014/12/brian-and-mike-take-a-giant-sharpie-to-that-erasure/ ) So, yep, off to war. Solarbird (talk) 18:26, 24 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've just read what you went through and I too appreciate what you did on there. I'm straight, but I definitely detected a tinge of homophobia in some of those arguments. If that was Korra and Mako in that last scene, I believe you would not have faced that same level of heated objections. After all, best friends hold hands and stare deeply into each other eyes all the time...G. Capo (talk) 02:12, 5 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Asami Sato's Wikipedia Article

[edit]

Hello there. Thank you for your statements on Asami's debate page. Asami's article has been improved, but if you feel there's anything that would make the article better, feel free to edit. I still want to help create pages for Bolin, Mako and Tenzin (and perhaps Lin). That would seem pointless though if the Wikipedia community decides to delete Asami's page. Thank you so much for everything.G. Capo (talk) 03:46, 3 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I've been adding STEM and Captain of Industry stuff all afternoon. I've brought in several new sources talking specifically about Asami's separate roles, and I think the STEM and businesswoman aspects (particularly in the time period) are really important. So I think we have a shot at this. But, you know, keep adding. Solarbird (talk) 00:31, 4 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

Asami Sato

[edit]

I've semi-protected for a week. Hope that helps. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 06:10, 7 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It's not a problem. There are a lot worse pages than that. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 07:08, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Asami Sato pic

[edit]

I appreciate your explanation and your efforts on the pics. This felt more like an end-around than me being stepped on. The decision on the caption change was made swiftly. I work some... interesting...shifts during the day so I literally had no chance to participate in that discussion. If I was involved, I would have said what I said, but would have indicated an openness to other options. Placing the original pic elsewhere in the article would have worked fine for me. Still, I am thrilled that this historical character's wiki page is looking excellent. I can tell you quite a few folks are impressed by this article's quality. G. Capo (talk) 10:12, 7 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It's also partly my fault, because I have some memory issues (as in, medicated memory issues, not the usual 'lol I can't remember names' thing; always have had it, it's a serotonin issue) and I also thought I was pinging you in the discussion but I pinged that other person on accident and didn't notice until you showed up upset. :( I'm sorry about that too. But I'm glad people are liking the article. I may be a musician now, but I was in software development in a major way for years (code in the Windows box, code in the Office box) and before that I did genetics research. I really think Asami is important. :D Solarbird (talk) 17:05, 7 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A brownie for you!

[edit]
Just as a bit of a thank you from one LOK Wiki contributor to another for keeping everybody sane and focused during the Korrasami brouhaha :) Luthien22 (talk) 19:19, 7 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! ^_^

for my own notes - asami sato edit war

[edit]

Hopefully this will work - this is the additionally-footnoted version of the material that kept being edited and reverted out by an edit warrior, and I wanted to keep track of the links.

Along with lead-character and "Avatar" Korra, she is half of the first major acknowledged LGBT couple in western children's animation;[1][2][3] both partners are bisexual.[4]

Korra characters

[edit]

I did my first edit on your sandbox regarding Hiroshi Sato, check it out. I'm not a man of many words, so I think my description of the characters could be better. --Killuminator (talk) 01:04, 26 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Oh! Thank you! I am absolutely swamped these two weeks because of the CD release party and book release (I'm book designer on the novels too, agh) and the actual physical CD coming out and and and. So I'm a bit idle at the moment. But I'm not idling, just, you know, swamped. I was up 'till 2:30 again last night doing stage layouts. Stuff like that. Anyway, thanks and maybe we'll get something going here in February. ^_^ @Killuminator: Solarbird (talk) 20:17, 26 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm overstuffed with exams, still waiting for results in economics and marital law, and still pondering if studying circa 300 pages of criminal law for the top grade is worth it. I should be done with this boring part of my life by February 6th. I think we should do the characters season by season, I wouldn't know what to write about let's say Unalaq because I don't remember that season well and I rarely watch shows again. Good luck with your CD and book work ! --Killuminator (talk) 20:40, 26 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Killuminator: Agh, graduate school. Been there, hated that. Well, didn't hate all of it. :D But yeah, good luck! And you've only got another week and a half, you can make it! Also if you're curious, you can listen to the album for free on Bandcamp in decent quality. Part instrumental, part songs, some readings from the books - I'm really proud of this one. :D 04:53, 27 January 2015 (UTC)
I've passed all of them !!! Huzzzahhh. I will try to get the top grade in criminal law this friday unless I chicken out or die of cardiac arrest. I like the music, it's very relaxing. I have and idea on what to write for Yakone, try to see if you can get any serious editors to help us so we can start with work. --Killuminator (talk) 22:14, 28 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Lake Forest Park photo

[edit]

You have a photo posted on the Lake Forest Park Wikipedia page. A nice shot of Lyons Creek Park, captioned, "Lyon Creek Park provides public access to Lake Washington." The park doesn't provide access to the lake, and in fact, swimming, launching watercraft and fishing at the park are all expressly prohibited. Please edit the caption accordingly. Image source problem with File:Flag of kenmore.png

[edit]
Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Flag of kenmore.png.

This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F4 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 14:04, 28 February 2023 (UTC). If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 14:04, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
