More bias from Wikipedia

[edit]

Dear Wikipedia,

Your rejection of the Gerassi article was based on a kind of Kafkaesque, opaque statement. Yet, you clearly allow edits I have made, based even on New York Times references, to be removed. I find your policies strange, seemingly a product of a kind of pseudo-academic pretentiousness.

My response to More bias from wikipedia
Actually, in my view, the article just wasn't thorough nor carefully researched. John "Tito" Gerassi is a fascinating subject and deserved quite a bit more effort than you expended on this submission.
More about his life and education would have been helpful; for an example, see: http://dlib.nyu.edu/findingaids/html/tamwag/alba_018/ . Perhaps even some mention of his family and, in particular, just a bit more about his father; see for example: http://www.fernandogerassi.com/ . Maybe something about the controversy that swirled around him in 2006: http://www.bloggernews.net/12336 . Of course, a good starting point for your research might have been the detailed interview of Gerassi by Tony Monchinski. (It appears you do know of their association, having cited the work they did together as a reference without in fact having taken anything from the book for your article). The interview, in case you would like to review it, is at http://clogic.eserver.org/4-2/monchinski.html . I'm also a bit surprised that you made no reference to John Gerassi's 1966 truly wonderful "The Boys of Boise," written about the Boise Sex Scandal in 1955/56. Of course, if you had included a reference to The Boys of Boise then you would likely have come across the film made last year by Seth Randal called "The Fall of '55" which relied heavily on The Boys of Boise by Gerassi. Indeed a more complete bibliography or a bibliography at all would have likely been appropriate. The bare reference to just a few of his books, without even so much as a note about or quote from the reviews (mostly positive) those books received seemed to me to be insufficient. There are lots of reviews available online.
Your reference to Gerassi as an activist in the New Left seemed to me to be a bit simplistic without referring to his long history, work, and association with various important groups and organizations on the left. I think most people would have found his open support of FARC leader Granda and Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez in 2005 was just a little bit noteworthy. Even a nod to the many books he has written from a socialist (some might even say Marxist) perspective and his writings about socialist/communist leaders would have provided somewhat more insight for your reader.
Without question, I would have thought, since Gerassi passed away in 2012, what was written about his life after he died would help inform your reader. There is a truly remarkable obituary/memorium by Michel Contat in Le Monde. Albeit in French, it is nevertheless infused with great insight into Gerassi's life and views. (See http://www.lemonde.fr/disparitions/article/2012/08/10/john-tito-gerassi-l-ami-americain-de-sartre-mort-a-81-ans_1744962_3382.html).
I am sorry you feel that you have not been treated fairly by me but these are just some examples of information and sources that would have, in my opinion, improved your article so that it was not so devoid of content, context and references that it tended in fact to mislead, rather than inform, the reader about the subject.
All the best. Snowysusan 01:40, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

InstaMed wiki article

[edit]

Hi there, I am new to Wikipedia and this is my first time editing a page. I received this message upon denial of our page content:

This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. This is important so that the article can meet Wikipedia's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject can be established. If you still feel that this subject is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, please rewrite your submission to comply with these policies.

  • You are encouraged to make improvements by clicking on the "Edit" tab at the top of this page. When you are ready to resubmit, click here.
  • If you require extra help, ask a question at the help desk. There is also a live help chat with experienced reviewers.
  • Find sources: "InstaMed" – news · books · scholar · JSTOR · free images.

I was hoping you could provide further insight into what sections/language I should change.

I'd really appreciate your help.

Thanks!

Teun Voeten, Articles For Creation

[edit]

Hi, I am the one who created this article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Teun_Voeten this morning you have declined my submission because of a problem with reliable sources: now I have read referencing for beginners and citing sources several times before starting my article and I cannot understand which was my error. As I am pretty new in wikipedia, can you please help me improving this article so it can be published? It would be very useful if you can tell me what was wrong with my sources and suggest what I can do about that. Thank you very much for you time and kindness Ransfortstraat (talk) 09:55, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Help

[edit]

Hi,

Would it be possible to clarify why my article was rejected and what it would require or changes that would need to be made in order for it to be accepted.

Thanks,

Jack — Preceding unsigned comment added by Classicbob2012 (talkcontribs) 14:06, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for reviewing my article on AskNshare. Since AskNShare is a new paradigm for B2C marketing, there is no published article in any respected journal of marketing yet. However, in one of the references of my article (www.crunchbase.com/company/asknshare) there is a reference to a published paper in SUGI conference[1] in 1993. This is the first article where I discussed the application of social network for information flow simulator.

Will you accept this article as a verifiable reference?

Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mark Harris (Pennsylvania politician)

[edit]

Hi Snowysusan,

My attempt in creating that page was to suggest that the substantive article Mark Harris (Pennsylvania politician) be deleted. I must have misunderstood the directions for such a nomination. I now see that the article was deleted in 2006 Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Mark_Harris_(Pennsylvania_politician). It has since been recreated, and I wanted to nominate it for deletion, as there is nothing in the substantive article that indicates the person is anymore notable. While the two references do support the matter suggested, neither article is about Harris, and both barely mention him period. All the reasons on the Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Mark_Harris_(Pennsylvania_politician) are still applicable, and the article is a stub that should be deleted pursuant to:

  • Non-notable individual.
  • Lack of significant coverage in references.

Wikipedia talk: Articles for creation/Fred Field

[edit]

Not sure what you saw, but the page I'm adding is simply a redirect. This is a common post on Wikipedia. Since the original Fred Field page I created was deleted, I had to create a new one to add the redirect. This was suggested earlier when the page was deleted that I could create the page again as a redirect. I have done this successfully before (see Bruce Stephens). Below is the information:

Instead of simply declining pages at the rate of four or more a minute, it would be nice if you would stop for a few seconds to offer some genuine help too. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 09:54, 13 September 2012 (UTC) Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 09:54, 13 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the speedy response Snowbank. I realized that I gave few references when I first posted this article back in April. However, I followed the same format I saw used for another site on the same battlefield, Henry House Hill. Therefore, I included links, as I noted they did in that article to National Park webpages where I sourced much of my information from. So, I don't understand why there's such a problem with the article. Of course there are a number of historical photos and drawings of the house, etc., however I don't own any of those images. I meant the article to be posted as a stub, anyway. All I was trying to do was to establish there was such a house that was of historical import. I was in no way attempting to write a definitive article on the house, but it was mentioned in various other webpages and I wanted to be able to direct people to more definitive info on the house. Was I incorrect on all counts?!

Kkhemet (talk) 18:27, 13 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Susan. I want to put some pics in the article also. I know there are a number of old photos, drawings and maps that are out of copyright, but I could use some help finding them and adding them to the article.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Kkhemet (talkcontribs) 22:41, 13 September 2012‎ (UTC)

Hello Snowysusan, I think you just mistakenly moved Robinson House (Manassas, Virginia) from article space to project space, I have moved it back. It usually takes a few hours to a few days before Google search updates with a new Wikipedia article.-- OBSIDIANSOUL 00:45, 14 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Snowysusan. I've declined this CSD - at least for the moment - partly because it's not a valid CSD criterion and partly because I can't work out where the title appears on the Title blacklist. I've run text string searches for both the page name and the subheading, and I can't see anything there that matches. I'm also not seeing an obvious violation of WP:NOT - maybe WP:NOTNEWSPAPER, but it's a stretch. I'm not averse to deleting the page, but since I'm not clear on your reasoning I've delined to do so for the time being. Yunshui  09:58, 14 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Tagging AfC submissions with G11

[edit]

Hi Snowysusan. This is unrelated to my last message, but please can you exercise caution when tagging AfC submissions for speedy deletion under WP:G11? The AfC reviewer instructions are quite specific about which speedy deletion tags are generally appropriate for AfC, these are G3, G10 and G12. If none of these apply, the appropriate response (if the page does not meet the standards for incusion) is to decline the submission in the usual way. Since AfC pages are NOINDEXed, they do not appear in search engine rankings and are thus entirely ineffective for promotion; therefore the only real reason to delete such pages is if they actually constitute a potential legal problem for Wikipedia (i.e. they violate someone's copyright or they defame someone). In addition, sometimes promotional AfC submissions actually cover notable subjects, and declining them (rather than outright deleting them) can encourage the page creator to amend their work to bring it in line with Wikipedia norms.
