Banderas de Eurovisión

[edit]

¡Hola! Images within signatures

[edit]

You signature appears to contain an image which is not allowed per WP:SIGIMAGE and I strongly recommend that you remove the image immediately. Failure to do so may result in Wikipedia Administrators removing the image or receiving blocking sanctions. Wes Mouse  T@lk 23:20, 17 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • I will not use this subject again. I meant I don't get money for this work, because it's my hobby and I do it when I want.
  • What's wrong with my signature? I use standart Wikipedia signature. I don't use any images or other files in singature template (~~~~). Only links of my user and talk pages. Smthngnw (talk) 13:43, 19 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Firstly, I have moved your reply from my talk page onto this one; seeing as this is where the discussion originally took place. My talk page edit notice does even say that if you are replying to a comment I made on your talk page, to keep all the replies on that thread (which is this one and the one below).
Secondly, all those flag icons should not be made, as they are serving no encyclopaedic purpose. None of those countries will ever take place in the Eurovision Song Contest, so it is clear that they are being made and uploaded purposely. You need to remember that this is not a web-hosting site. It may have escaped your knowledge, but the heart logo is a trademark of the Eurovision Song Contest, so manipulating it like you have been doing is in breach of copyright laws. So I would suggest that you stop now before getting yourself into more trouble. I have already informed RVFan1930 that s/he should not be asking you to make such icons, as it is unfair that he is leading you astray into trouble.
Thirdly, your signature (shown in this diff) contains a smiley face icon. We are not suppose to incorporate images of any kind within our signatures. It may b a case that it was done in error and has since been removed. Which if that is the case, then we no longer need to discuss the issue with signatures.
Also you should remember that you are here on Wikipedia to help improve articles. Creating heart-flag icons or using Wikipedia to carry out and host your "personal hobbies", is not what Wikipedia is all about. Strongly consider and reflect on What Wikipedia is not. Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Smthngnw. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. In this conversation you admit to "paid editing" which can lead to being blocked. If you re being paid to create and upload images, then you must disclose the information following procedure outlined at WP:PAID. Wes Mouse  T@lk 23:31, 17 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Concerns over on-Wiki activity

[edit]

As you can see from above, several of your on-Wiki activities have been reported, as they violate the WP:NOTWEBHOST policy. These are issues that have been raised with you in the past, and despite your acknowledgement to refrain from doing this again, you have failed to comply and continued to use Wikipedia to host content that has no relation to building an encyclopaedia. If this sort of activity continues, then you could face and indefinite block as it demonstrates that you are clearly not here to build an encyclopedia.

Furthermore, at File:JESC 2017 Map.svg, you updated the map and shown the United Kingdom in yellow. That change you made is incorrect, and needs to be changed back to grey. It is only ITV who have said no return; the UK has 3 other broadcasters that have not decided. Therefore yellow on the map is highly incorrect at this moment in time. I would recommend that you correct this mistake and show the UK in its correct colour. Wes Wolf Talk 17:05, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Tie break for Eurovision

[edit]

Hi! Regarding your change to Eurovision Song Contest 2021, there is actually another tie break rule before looking at the number of 12 points; it's first the number of times a country received any amount of points. Lithuania received points from 27 countries, whereas Switzerland from 34 countries, so Switzerland should be at the top. (It is explained in full at Voting at the Eurovision Song Contest § Tie-breakers) ―Jochem van Hees (talk) 22:04, 17 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I didn't sockpuppeted. I didn't have any accounts besides this one. Also I didn't use other's ones and didn't let to use mine one either. The only thing why my IP may change sometimes, because of VPN I use sometimes. But as well as I know, I didn't change articles while using VPN. Smthngnw (talk) 12:10, 16 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Accept reason:

I am going to accept the user's explanation that this was a false-positive, that the edit that otherwise appeared to be the work of a blocked user was an innocent collision on the same issue. —C.Fred (talk) 02:34, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@C.Fred: What account is it that you believe this editor is a sock of? Nothing is jumping out at me, but it's been a long day at work, maybe I'm being oblivious. SQLQuery Me! 13:37, 16 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@SQL: This edit at Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021 had the hallmarks of LefterisA, who was indefinitely blocked for edit warring related to linking the English language like that and then using IPs to attempt to readd. See the edit history and logs of the JESC 2021 page, including my semi-protection on 29 November. —C.Fred (talk) 15:12, 16 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
And my version was manually restored 12 minutes later. I don't understand why a person who is linking English language definitely has to be a sockpuppet. Smthngnw (talk) 01:39, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If overlinking is a problem so in Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2008 page there are one mention of English language and TWO mentions of Dutch language and Russian language. In MOS:OVERLINK as a example there is also Spanish language so it has to be removed from all of ESC and JESC pages by that logic. Smthngnw (talk) 02:26, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Additional flag questions

[edit]

Hi Smthngnw! Thank you for your contributions to the Wikipedia Eurovision community. I was wondering if it would be possible to create new versions of the flags featuring the Union Jack (such as New Zealand, Anguilla...) so they better reflect the official version of Australia at Eurovision? I understand that it is a huge undertaking, so if you are unable to do this, could you share your methods for flag heart creation? What is the exact warping/modifying process? Regards HerzegHomo (talk) 18:15, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately I can't remake the logos to the new format right now, but I can dive suggestions how to make them properly in a vector graphics software (I use Inkscape).
First of all, use similar-pattern logo as a flag template.
Second, do not rotate flags. It's a common mistake. Working in Inkscape I found a Transform option (Shift + Ctrl + M) named Skew. You can do a 5° vertical skew on the heart part firstly. This should make fitting a flag in it easier. After that just do a -5° vertical skew on both the heart and the flag combined.
Temporarily making a flag a little more transparent helps a lot.
Do not forget to cut sticking out flag parts.
The heart must be on top of flag layers.
Do not keep unnecessary objects in the file.
Also, holding Shift while scaling helps to keep the proportions of an object. Smthngnw (talk) 19:53, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Wow thanks mate! I will try to replicate it in Adobe Illustrator, and if I succeed would you mind if I uploaded them to your collection? Don't know if I should replace your originals or just add them as "variants"... HerzegHomo (talk) 15:11, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm very grateful that you decided to help with this! But I don't understand what you mean about uploading to my collection.
If you mean to replace files, uploading new versions with the same name, then I agree. There is no need to upload the more correct logos individually if this is a fix for the previous ones. Either way Wikimedia Commons can restore older versions.
This category and this list can help you find all logo files. Smthngnw (talk) 19:35, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Lol I am going to level with you. I am completely new to Wikipedia, never used Inkscape before. I edited my first article last week and I usually just run a Eurovision-based contest YouTube channel that often requires me to have these flag hearts for which I thank you. However, I don't really use vectors often and rarely have a need for Adobe Illustrator so I am not even well versed in it. Just wanted to know your process if I ever attempt to figure it out so I don't update anything incorrectly as I know a lot of people use this. Thanks for your quick response, have fun watching the German selection if you are, and otherwise happy weekend :) HerzegHomo (talk) 20:17, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have a source or proof of some kind that the United Nations flag was used for the first semi-final? Sims2aholic8 (talk) 15:08, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wayback Machine: SF1 (May 9), SF2 (May 11). The usual RotW flag appeared after SF1. Smthngnw (talk) 15:21, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The Brilliant Idea Barnstar
I remember watching the 2014 eurovision on the TV and I got so excited when austria won. 9 years have passed and this song is getting me nostalgic for 2014 already. Dang, time flies. 2014 eurovision was really good, I still can't believe my country poland sent, I love it sooo much, it's one of my favourite troll acts on eurovision. Hope eurovision will be held in Denmark again one day I searched for such a high quality version for the last two years :D Jlsteven08 (talk) 10:46, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
