Thank you for the message re racist crypto trolling. I am, of course, aware of the "No Feeding" rule. As prejudicial, fundamentalist racist nonsense has not starved to extinction by feedback malnutrition, I think it is mandatory to make a brief (possibly curt) statement as to the unacceptable nature of such attitudes.

As you will know, I live in a country where - unfortunately - some 15% of the electorate seem to support a blatantly xenophobic Rattenfänger.

Out of curiousity, I always thought (and I think to have been taught so in the last millenium) that the Sluzzelin poem is by my late countryman Walther v. d. VW. Some sources say "Yea", some say "Nay". You state clearly on your page that the author is unknown. Is there (and why is there) a consensus on this ?

Greetings from Vindobona to Alemannia. --Cookatoo.ergo.ZooM (talk) 20:51, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough, but make it poisoned pigeonfeed then, as sung in your countryman's lovely song of spring ("Die Sonne ist warm, und die Lüfte sind lau, gemma Tauberln vergiftn im Park.")
The Sluzzelîn poem is from Tegernsee Abbey. My Deutschlehrer always "knew" it was anonymous, but it is sometimes attributed to Wernher (or Werinher or Werner) von Tegernsee, though not a lot is known about him. As for Walther, he wrote the Tegernsee-Lied a little bit later (Ich bin ein wunderlicher man /daz ich mich selben niht enkan /verstan und mich so vil an frömde liute laze) ---Sluzzelin talk 05:07, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

5,000 years from now, the glacier will spit out a mummified corpse, and scientists will marvel at 19th century Helvetians' sartorial tastes. Thanks for restoring my sandbox, though I was content to leave it blanked. I have put a notice on the admin board about the matter. --Milkbreath (talk) 13:14, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, sorry I didn't wish to interfere with your plans. Saw it via your diff at WP:RD/H and reverted the blankings before I saw your message at WP:ANI. Knee-jerk reflex.
I hope it goes away one day, but I'm pessimistic. I know it's the same editor, and he won't deny it, nor does he care. If necessary, I can go diff-hunting all the way back to Feb 2007. There were edits linking 71.100... to Barringa to Leasing Agent. I just don't know whether this is giving the attention he craves or whether anything useful might come of it. (Range blocks don't seem to be liked, for understandable reason). Keep exhaling lactic fumes. ---Sluzzelin talk 13:21, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No need to apologize. Thanks for giving a hoot about the whole business; I don't find vandal-wrangling fun, and I don't know much about the process. --Milkbreath (talk) 16:58, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
He's been bugging me for a while. But then that may be his objective. I'd really love it if his posts just remained untouched, unanswered, glaringly stupid, and speaking for themselves. But people will reply. I will continue to fully support your removals. ---Sluzzelin talk 17:53, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Some linkage and proof that I'm not paranoid:
(1) and (2): 71.100.171.80 signs his post with "[[User:Barringa|-- Barringa]]"
(3) and (4): 71.100.0.252 signs his post with "[[User:Barringa|-- Barringa]]"
(5): Leasing Agent redirects User talk:71.100.166.228 to User talk:Leasing Agent after having this time-wasting discussion on the IP adress's talk page.
That's all for now. Will keep collecting, when and if I feel like it. ---Sluzzelin talk 16:19, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Posted it at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#Determined_trolling_of_Refdesks, for what it's worth. ---Sluzzelin talk 16:49, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ligeti & Noch schneller

[edit]

Hi, Sluzzelin. It's beginning to look a lot like ... apocryphal, Everywhere I go. Which is a DAMN shame, really. I would really love it if Ligeti really had used such a lovely tempo indication. Thanks for your efforts anyway, and best regards. -- JackofOz (talk) 21:36, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

For a truly mind-boggling find of an obscure Russian painter and his equally obscure subject. Wow. --Milkbreath (talk) 12:47, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sweet! I had seen the painting before, but had no idea where. His clothing was a good hint for the right period, and for some reason I thought Russian. I did some "portrait + ___" searches, and when I saw the faces and brown backgrounds at "portrait + kramskoy", I went straight to Olga's Gallery where I found it. Thanks for the brittle star, very much appreciated. ---Sluzzelin talk 13:48, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Formatting nav box

[edit]

Do you know how to format a nav box, i.e. the nav box in an article will not be collapsed always, the nav box will be always fully displayed. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 12:46, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am trying to format the Template:Bridges in Slovenia for the article Dragon Bridge, so that the nav box is always displayed fully, not condensed, but the format is not working. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 12:47, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This is the general format I know for nav boxes. But this is not working. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 12:53, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sadly, I know very little about boxes. Maybe Template:Navbox or its talk page can be of assistance? Alternatively, you could ask your question at Wikipedia:Help desk where there are plenty of helpful and savvy users at your service. (By the way, I like your name, may I call you bush baby?) ---Sluzzelin talk 12:56, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I will ask someone who has some more knowledge about nav boxes. Thanks for providing the links. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 13:07, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's not often I see you make an error! To cheer you up, I award you an ASCII asterisk. * --Dweller (talk) 12:04, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Korovin Spring

[edit]

That's a good picture by Korovin, reminds me a lot of the work of Pasternak. Xn4 22:50, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I hoped it might help coax spring into visiting the Mittelland, but enough about the weather. Interesting association. I just compared their art at Commons ([1] [2]). I find Korovin's choice of hues quite remarkable, and though I love Spring in its entirety, I'm still ambivalent about that shade of Han Blue when the bottom half is cut off on my tiny screen. Here is an even more vivid example. Nothing beats a good old slave market, and speaking of Orientalism, thanks to WP I learned that Korovin designed the set for one of The Golden Cockerel's early performances. As a long-time lover of the "Hymn to the Sun", I'm now looking for sketches or photos of the grand Tsaritsa of Shemakha's costume. Maybe that will persuade the spring sun to stay. Oops, I'm talking weather again ... ---Sluzzelin talk 10:02, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Funnily enough, I used to have a book of sketches of Ballets Russes costumes, but someone begged it from me. I think quite a lot of stuff like that has been published in the form of books, prints and posters, no doubt because the costumes are so gorgeous. If all else fails, I should think there's likely to be something in the collection of The Bolshoi, and no doubt it has some kind of librarian, but I don't know how obliging he or she might be. Xn4 13:25, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I only found Tsar Dodon online. Thanks, if not the Bolshoi, I guess these doors are the ones I should be knocking on. Humming the Hymn. ---Sluzzelin talk 16:12, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That museum certainly looks hopeful, good luck! Xn4 17:55, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

...I didn't mean it was you who upset me. ;-) No, you had a fair point. Lradrama 17:34, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I misunderstood. You needn't get upset over this kind of edit war either though. This was neither a high-frequency talk- or project page, nor an article. I've quoted this before: WP:3RR says "Any editor who breaches the rule may be blocked from editing." Nowhere does it say they must be blocked. Well ... you didn't block, and I'm very glad you didn't, and I hope you won't ever block productive mainspace editors over a situation like this. I am not an administrator, and I don't envy them for all the heat, nonsense and abuse they sometimes experience. Yet I wish the announcement and execution of blocks were done far far far more cautiously when it comes to serious no nonsense contributors. This wasn't even a molehill, and it's a good thing it was stamped back into flatitude before it got a chance to grow. Thank you for your clarification, for letting it go, and take care. ---Sluzzelin talk 23:09, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Once I stopped LOL...

...I experienced some puzzlement: what did you find surprising? And then, a sense of mild alarm at your edit summary, though I'm sure it was kindly meant (and truer than you could have known, though astutely surmised :-/ All in all, dear Sluzzelin, I was genuinely touched, and thank you :-) Deborahjay (talk) 10:32, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your passionate defense of feline humor made me giggle, and sometimes I can't fight the compulsion to react! I like this one, by the way. :-) ---Sluzzelin talk 12:39, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

T-word

[edit]

Yeah, I guess you're right that it's best to keep that one in the box, and I have tended lately to let it out, but that's what it is when one takes the slightest pretext to spew one's politics on the refdesks and spice one's remarks with a nod and a wink to terrorism just to stir things up. I would hope that such stuff-it-is-probably-better-not-to-call-trolling-but-is would gore every thinking person's ox as inappropriate for the reference desks, anyway. Thanks for the advice. --Milkbreath (talk) 16:12, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Spooky Sluzzelin. Hey, that brings back memories. I must get Сталкер on DVD and watch it again. No worries about stalking, though. I'm forever checking out edits made by "persons of interest" when I might otherwise have skipped over them until the article next popped up on my watchlist. I don't call that stalking. But thanks for caring, mate. -- JackofOz (talk) 00:28, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
