MRT-3 as official name

[edit]

I know all your arguments about Line 3 being called colloquially as the "MRT" only, but Wikipedia is a website meant to shed information on the official and technical aspects of certain topics which the common people does not know. Wikipedia should be able to shed light to people the official aspects of certain topics. Using the colloquial terms would not give them the official insight that they wanted to know in the first place. Similar to road articles, this is the reason why some streets such as "Gil Puyat Avenue" are named as such if will be given an article despite being "Buendia Avenue" as the popular or colloquial name. We could mention the colloquial name but only on the part where it would be determined as the colloquial name. For the rest we should use the official name. I hope that you would see the point of this argument and prevent already the use of the "popular name" argument. PhilippineRevolution (talk) 13:30, 13 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, PhilippineRevolution, and actually, I don't think you do. For the MRT, I find it absurd that we need to refer to the line number, when the line number isn't even necessary to begin with when the article talks about the MRT system (despite being composed of only one line). The road example doesn't count: I support the use of official names for roads, but that argument does not apply to the MRT. Even in technical documentation, the system is more commonly referred to as the MRT, not as the MRT-3. Emphasizing that it's Line 3 is redundant when the other network (the LRT) has the first two lines. The system isn't even called the MRTC: the MRTC refers to the Metro Rail Transit Corporation, the system operator, and not the system as a whole, which is simply called the MRT. I hope this clarifies things.
In addition, I really hope that instead of reverting my edits, you actually focus your editing efforts on addressing the current featured article review, where it has been pointed out that there are structural problems with the article as a whole. I'm currently doing that, and you reverting my edits does not make my job easier. Thanks. --Sky Harbor (talk) 19:30, 13 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I do, the only thing I am reverting is the removal of "-3", nothing more or less. Besides it is stated in Wikipedia:Writing better articles that "Formal tone means that the article should not be written using unintelligible argot, slang, colloquialisms, doublespeak, legalese, or jargon; it means that the English language should be used in a businesslike manner." and you argumenting on MRT as the colloquial name violates this rule. Businesslike manner is already seen in the original documents and even the website URL which is MRT-3 via EDSA MRT-3 or www.dotcmrt3.gov.ph. I dont want you to view me as an enemy in this strive for making the article better, in fact I want to help you that is why I am here. I hope that the rule will finally be an enough justification to you.PhilippineRevolution (talk) 01:13, 14 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Your submission of Floating Skyscrapers at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Yoninah (talk) 00:25, 22 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I was searching through the WT:TAMBAY archives earlier and I see that you have been acquainted with User:Philipandrew, the "problem user" that Obsidian Soul reported last year. I would have consulted Obsidian himself but he seems to be inactive as of late. I have been spending the better half of today sifting through each and every one of his edits. You can see from my recent edits here at Wikipedia and at Commons that I've been preoccupied with PRODing his articles/uploads. I suspect a lot of them are hoaxes. I am very much concerned about his editing behavior. I am nearing the conclusion that his existence in Wikipedia may be detrimental. I understand you have better expertise handling this kind of matter. What course of action do you suggest we take?

Regards. 舎利弗 (talk) 04:33, 23 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Review. For one, I took a look at his article on Maka-Diyos, Maka-Tao, Makakalikasan at Makabansa, and they look valid to me, with no hint of it being a hoax. So what exactly is wrong here? (I understand I don't have the complete picture, but I look forward to exploring this further.) --Sky Harbor (talk) 14:19, 23 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I never said all were hoaxes. If you read the rationale, it was on grounds of independent notability and significant coverage on the motto itself. 舎利弗 (talk) 18:35, 23 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Editings

[edit]

I see that some of editors are not satisfied at my recent edits and also to articles , but i have many sources and reviews and readings on to any sources before i made an articles and cited it to my edits... so It was tried to deleted last year .. it was cleared that it was a Not a Hoax .. so why they calling me a problematic editor like the Obsidian Soul said ? i have some footnotes on to it on my articles alsothey saying that it was a non-reliable, but it it was also based on the references of the particular articles (which i derived it)...,,P.Andrew (talk) 04:46, 23 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Philipandrew. I just need to clarify here: you were the user Ate Pinay (Pinay06) referred me to last year when I saw her in Tagbilaran, right? She asked that I step in should this be the case, but if not, then let's see what we can do to get us out of this impasse. Now, if 舎利弗 will allow me, perhaps we should recall what happened here, and what we can do to resolve this case. Thanks. --Sky Harbor (talk) 08:02, 23 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
To give a summary, I came across him when he messaged me how he opposed moving Aspin (Dog) to askal, its original name. The move was carried out anyway since there was editor consensus. I could see why he would message me; it's because he's the user who moved the article to aspin. Anyway, I checked his profile shortly after he messaged me to see that he has been blocked for sockpuppeting. As I understand, his block was only lifted recently. This prompted me to check each and every one of his contributions. I found many of them troubling. They were mostly grammatically incorrect and tangential to the subject:
as family needs become more diverse.Modern urban dwellings, on the other hand, are typically two-story structures with a concrete ground floor, sides of brick, concrete blocks, or wooden slats, and an iron roof. During the 19th century, wealthy Filipinos built some fine houses, usually with solid stone foundations or brick lower walls, and overhanging, wooden upper story with balustrades and kapis shell sliding windows, and a tiled roof. (verbatim, Revision as of 10:27, 23 May 2014)
He was even so kind to include some kind of travel agency ad into the same article:
TriptheIslands joins the author of this architecture article in taking you through the significant milestones that shaped our structures in the Philippines. It is always best to know a bit about the history of Philippine Architecture as we trip our various islands to appreciate more about the efforts of our early architects to shape the skylines of our major cities.
This has thankfully since been removed by another user.
Specifically, he has the knack to include Philippines-related information to the remotest of articles, including but not limited to coat of arms, pizza (with a classy edit summary, why ph not mentioned), The Prayer by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli (where he added an image of the supposed Tagalog translation, in baybayin no less, of the said song), and mining (where he even copy-pasted <ref name="geo"/> which returned an error because it hasn't been defined yet in that article.) Many of them, and all these examples have been reverted beforehand by other users, fortunately.
He would sometimes confront users who reverted his edits in his usual drawl, which a bot would usually sign for him because he always manages to forget. (e.g. User:Yopie, my talk page). At one point, he even filed a bug to a bot because it always had to correct his markup. There would be even times when he's hostile towards other users, including LX, a non-admin whom he accused of blocking him, Obsidian Soul, where he thinks saying that he and his cousin using the same computer would relieve him from his "stock Puppet" case, and User:Presidentbalut, a since-blocked troll who ticked him off and he told to "have a Mind Cleansing Research and be and open minded men" and so accused:
The only thing you invented is eating dogmeat, AIDS, and child prostitution. You are just wasting your 20 pesos an hour at the internet cafe, while poor lola has no rice to eat.
He did this particular tirade using three user accounts and one IP, over the span of 22 edits.
To one user whom he pleaded not to delete his contributions, despite the fact that the user himself was not an administrator, he explained the reason behind his actions:
Please improve it, not to delete , Also The point of making this article was to show the whats the history of the Philippines as a country not only an island (like Guam,Hawaii Solomon islands and Marianas that does not mentioned any Detailed nor correct History in instance.
I believe his beliefs stated so far and after this line: (all examples from links provided above; all verbatim)
  1. you should Be a patriotic, Rather than Patronizing the Foreigners
  2. if your a filipino then Stop being in favor to the Foreigners
  3. Whats wrong for being a patriotic?
Grossly impairs his ability to edit Wikipedia impartially, not to mention the fact that he also has a problematic history at Commons. He is not here to contribute any degree of betterment to the project; he's obviously here to pursue his ultranationalist agenda.
I rest my case. 舎利弗 (talk) 20:20, 23 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, what surprise, it seems User:Obsidian Soul also found a similar conclusion. 舎利弗 (talk) 03:39, 24 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oh great I just discovered that he's also posting copyvios. Case in point, you can see here that it was tagged by a bot. Now what did he do after that? He simply replaced a word after every three or so, and voila you have a barely understandable word salad. I've blanked the article now leaving it with just the opening (completely new) sentence, categories + reference. But now I have to preoccupy myself to recheck each of his edits again for copyvios. 舎利弗 (talk) 04:42, 24 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Philippines–Thailand Friendship Circle, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Orchidarium. • Sky Harbor, you need to provide a quid pro quo review for your DYK nomination. Time is running out; please supply one by the end of July. If it hasn't been done by then, there is the danger that your nomination will have to be closed. Thank you for giving this your attention. BlueMoonset (talk) 15:16, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Featured_article_review/Manila_Metro_Rail_Transit_System/archive1 - are you still working on this? Nikkimaria (talk) 14:26, 2 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, Nikkimaria, I'm still working on this. There's not a lot of information to go by on stations and amenities, so what might end up happening is either I duplicate information from the LRT where the information is common to both systems, or I continue digging for information. I'm currently not in the Philippines, so this is something that I intend to work on more when I return, but at the same time, I seriously hope Sportsguy17 is actually doing something to help me out here rather than just complaining and saying that that section alone is "enough to give him some lingering concerns". Thanks. --Sky Harbor (talk) 12:45, 4 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, can you please supply the QPQ for Template:Did you know nominations/Remedios Circle? --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 23:51, 3 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sky Harbor, it has been over a week since the above notification that a quid pro quo review is still needed for this nomination. Please respond right away. If we do not hear from you soon, we will have to close the nomination as unsuccessful, and that would be a great shame. BlueMoonset (talk) 21:08, 11 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on PCD Nominee Corporation, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Your DYK nomination of Circumferential Road 5–Kalayaan Avenue Interchange

Hi, the maximum allowed length of a DYK hook is 200 characters, but the one you supplied is 251, excluding "(pictured)" which doesn't count. The hook will have to be edited or replaced with a shorter one. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 22:38, 28 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Mandarax. It's hard given that the article title is so long, but I've shortened the hook to 200 characters. Thanks. :) --Sky Harbor (talk) 23:05, 28 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
