{{helpme}} What exactly is the official line on the "Home and Away" pages? Ironically just as I was thinking you need some more someone seems to have decided you need less, creating an environment when it seems any page can be deleted on a whim.I acknowledge the current set-up is far from perfect:there is a clear bias towards recent characters and events, many pages are in need of updating and there's a tendency to create character pages for people who were always intended as short term.(My recent edit(s) of the character list reflects those who were confirmed as regulars and there's at least a couple there I'm reserving judgement on.)But you're in danger of throwing the baby out with the bath water here.If being a major character in a long-running and popular series doesn't qualify you for inclusion you need to lose hundreds of pages and if you don't like pages that recite a character's fictional history you need to lose thousands. It's got to the point where I find them so necessary I'm having to write them myself.Am I on the wrong side of a battle that's already been lost here?

Hi there! I believe you are referring to the page Home and Away. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia that anybody can edit and, thus, there are greatly varied opinions of what does and what does not belong in an article. This is why each article on wikipedia has a discussion page. The discussion page for this specific article is located at Talk:Home and Away. On this page you can discuss and collaborate with other editors on what should or shouldn't be added to an article. As always, if you feel something should be added to an article, please be bold and update it! If you have any other questions, feel free to post here or on my talk page. Ohh, and one more thing: when posting on a talk page (like this one) always remember to sign your posts using four tildes (like this:~~~~). Hope this helped! --omtay38 01:18, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Brad Armstrong

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Brad Armstrong (Home and Away), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as articles for deletion. If you can indicate how Brad Armstrong (Home and Away) is different from the previously posted material, or if you can indicate why this article should not be deleted, I advise you to place the template {{hangon}} underneath the other template on the article, and also put a note on Talk:Brad Armstrong (Home and Away) saying why this article should stay. An admin should check for such edits before deleting the article. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 4 under General criteria. If you believe the original discussion was unjustified, please feel free to use deletion review, but do not continue to repost the article if it is deleted. Teams, navboxes, cats, and lists

[edit]

The problem is that there have been issues with the non-article member lists.

One of the biggies is that with the articles there is room for supporting cites to be presented for why a character is included. Categories and navboxes don't allow for that.

There's also to potential for clutter at the bottoms of the character pages due to characters dropping in and out of multiple teams.

That being said, and this is my bad, there is room for "Opponents", but they should be limited to Avenger's centric ones. Characters like Zemo and the Enchantress are primarily foes for one character that happens to be a member of the Avengers. So at least part of the section is going to need to be put back...

Speedy deletion of Morag Bellingham

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Morag Bellingham, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. nancy (talk) 10:00, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I have deleted Shauna Bradley, because it has previously been decided in this deletion debate that the subject of the article, in the lack of any verifiable sources, could not be said to have real-world notability. Please take note of the other articles which were part of that deletion debate. If you wish to create any of these articles, I recommend going to Deletion Review and show which sources you can point to as proving the notability of these characters. - Mark 09:23, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Who's coming next?

[edit]

I've noticed for the last few months you've whipped up profiles for the more "forgotten" H&A characters... I just want to know'; Who are you building articles for next?

Conquistador2k6 14 September 2008 11:58 (UTC)

If use Webarchive.org for The Unofficial Home and Away page, you can find some summaries dating back to 1994 and you can get some research from there. That's what I do. But for the information to remain on Wikipedia's another thing; It's this Article Fascism as of late which winds up having the articles themselves stripped to barebones as apparently nothing's good enough for the Higher-ups here...

Proposed deletion of Alex Bennett (Home and Away)

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Alex Bennett (Home and Away), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Magioladitis (talk) 01:34, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No. there was an afd on this among other at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Amanda Vale, which directed them to Home and Away. This has never been reversed, although the redirect was subsequently improperly removed.--Grahame (talk) 01:08, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Correction it redirected to Current Home and Away characters and I have now fixed.--Grahame (talk) 01:14, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The problem with these articles about fictional people from TV series is that they are not encyclopedic. They are usually people'e own work or copied from IMDb. They don't show the cultural significance of the characters (probably because there is none) or any discussion or sourcing from literature (also probably because there is none). This is why they do not have a good place in WikiPedia, when there are prefectly good other places on the web where this can be done, including IMDb. People seem to want to put them on WP just because they think they will be read here. But because you have been nice and because the article has existed so long since it was last officially redirected, I have restored the article as a stub even thuogh I don't think it deserves it.--Grahame (talk) 23:45, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just thought I'd drop in my opinion, though I have pretty much zero Wikipedia clout and no interest in soaps whatsoever. I am very much of the opinion that fictional characters, including soap characters, have very significant cultural impact. One of the reasons people watch fiction is to learn about interacting with different personalities and since soaps like this are so widely watched by the general population, I'd argue that they have a significant impact on the way society at large operates. That this impact is subtle and difficult to define in exact terms does not, in my view, alter that it exists. CarterPD (talk) 09:51, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

List of current Home and Away characters

On the List of current Home and Away characters article, you completley changed everything, to be honest it looks much more tidy in list format, like all other lists, a little information can be added to the character articles themselves if you would like to identify readers with characters.RAIN the ONE (Talk) 14:54, 11 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Home and Away

[edit]

Were only trying to help here. You said ignore the comment you wrote if we plan on doing past characters too... We are. Martha MacKenzie, we worked hard for that. Gypsy Nash, Jack Holden, Belle Taylor, Matilda Hunter, Rachel Armstrong, Tony Holden (Home and Away) and look even minor characters are going to get mentionas, takes more work though User:Raintheone/List of Home and Away characters (2009).. Then I've created Xavier, Ruby, Collen, Liam, worked on Angelo, Irene.. That's a lot of editing over the past few weeks... We're not deleting lists for fun, just keeping everything simple, in place. Don't you think were trying to help?RAIN*the*ONE BAM 23:58, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well were counting backwards with the lists of characters for each year, 2011 is done, Junegloom's doing 2010, I'm doing 2009, another user is doing 2008... so I guess it's going to be like a revolving door on that one. I can find sources for the older characters, but the show started a few years years before I was born and I only remember watching it from Stephanie, Casey, Liam, Joey and co... So I have quite a good knowledge I guess, but I can find out more. With Colleen's article, there is more older info than new.. I'll have to find the balance I guess.. In theory it would take years, in practise with Neighbours it took just over four months of editing in free time and me and Junegloom made a character article for every Neighbours character in the last 20 years... For now though, it's about getting the articles stable, then we can get other things, I have a DVD profiling older characters, then there is that wedding and romance series they released with Beau Brady, that can do for reception and so on... Most stuff is recent because a lot of articles on the internet are deleted, so we lose them and can't find anything.. I tried looking everywhere for Chloe Richards, but couldn't find anything solid to add to her article only storylines... But when we get going, like with Martha, it profiles the whole time in the show and she created a lot of drama... Alf, Fisher, Sally and co need revamping obviously... a lot of work year... =DRAIN*the*ONE BAM 20:29, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wou'd you object to Current characters of Home and Away being redirected or deleted when were done? After the 2009 and 2010 lists are moved into the mainspace it should be fine right? (Lilly and VJ can have splits into their parents articles explaining there storylines and development) Tomrrow I have to pick up the very first H&A annual and behind the scenes info book from the deppo... hopefully I've chosen wisely and they have plenty of, info on older characters. (the behind the scenes is dated 1989.) I really want to edit Bobby, Rebecca and Lance next. =)RAIN*the*ONE BAM 01:49, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There we go - look what I finished earlier, Bobby Simpson. Took a while to peice it together because I couldn't find that much casting, but thankfully Dickson chatted lots about Bobby in the annual, I've nominated her for "Did you know" so she gets more views.04:52, 31 January 2011 (UTC)RAIN*the*ONE BAM

I've finally finished Steven Matheson, his article was in poor shape before, no info at all.RAIN*the*ONE BAM 04:54, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Harry Price (fictional character) for deletion

The article Harry Price (fictional character) is being discussed concerning whether it is suitable for inclusion as an article according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Harry Price (fictional character) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. RAIN*the*ONE BAM 02:56, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Grant Mitchell

[edit]

Come on now - I've asked if you will hold off on creating characters for old characters before. Why can't you be bothered to create articles with sources? I had some info for Grant I've collected - I was going to do a DYK nomination with it. Now it will be really hard to do because I will have to make the article bigger than the storyline rehash you wrote out. Takes away the enjoyment by a mile. You've got such a good knowledge of the show, I wish you'd conform to the MoS and policies on out of universe info... you'd be an assest.RaintheOne BAM 22:38, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I know I did, but I requested that it be in the correct style. Like there is info on Grant that could be added from the real world perspective. It is in the way, because you created the article with so many bytes of content - I would now have to create an article five times as big as what you did to get a DYK slot. I know a lot were created and slanted to older events because we just put it random refs toi save them from deletion. Remember last time, loads got deleted in one go. And even with Hugo, the info there wasn't enough to stop it being deleted. We have info on Belle and Angelo's relationship to build a nice development section for them. But also with Belle we have collected info for every story she has had and are awaiting to add it. Martha, Ruby and Charlie are all at GA level now. Nicole is currently awaiting review, and look how much info there is there. It just takes time. We just started adding info to Harry, Sophie, Angel and Shane. It's a slow process with so many articles... plus working on five other soaps .. that is what I meant about you helping, in the right way, not creating an article without sources. That's why I'd rather you wait if you don't fancy adding sources, because your storyline recaps are helpful. What fansite btw, can I look? :)RaintheOne BAM 15:49, 9 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Current characters of Home and Away has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The majority of characters on this page have individual articles or entries in an appropriate list. This article is redundant.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hey Skteosk, I thought you may like to offer your opinion here on the prospect of a new wikiproject for Neighbours and H&A.RaintheOne BAM 18:24, 1 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Skteosk - do you plan on working on Damian Roberts more than you have already? If you are going to create new articles without any sources, ones that possibly hold no notability - please could you use the correct info box, wikilink actors and write plot summaries in present tense. I'd really prefer it if you would check to see if they would pass WP:GNG before spending your time writing the article. I cannot force you to - but as ever - I'll sure ask for you to consider it. I only ask because the time that could be spent on something else - is now going to be used on the salvage operation. However, if we cannot save it, the article may need redirecting to the list of names until a character list is introduced.Rain the 1 01:01, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed your recent edit to List of Home and Away characters (2012) does not have an edit summary. List of Home and Away characters

[edit]

The duration should refer to the character not the actor(s). It is a list of characters after all. I believe the format is used for most soap opera lists like this, so why should Home and Away be the exception? - JuneGloom07 Talk 18:03, 31 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It just seems sensible to me to include all relevant information. Is there a Wikipedia rule that says "All lists of characters must only list the duration of the character not the actor", or is it just something that's become "normal" because other lists have done it? To me, it seems sensible to include as much information as possible rather than listing the actors without their durations so someone reading the article has to look elsewhere to find out, for example, when exactly Debra Lawrance took over from Vanessa Downing. The list has been like that for several years now, since at least 2007, probably longer if someone checks the edit log, so unless there's a rule that says it's wrong then I think it should be left as it is. An article you recently created, 1989–90 Norwich City F.C. season, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. 1989–90 Norwich City F.C. season

[edit]

Hi there, I noticed the trouble you were having getting 1989–90 Norwich City F.C. season through. I've added some quick references that should help out, it would also help if you could add inline citations from the book sources you have for the results and transfers as these are things I can't reference. Kosack (talk) 10:08, 3 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You can add a source anywhere in the section if a certain page range covers all the info. I've converted the Canary Citizens book to a template now, so you can use the harv style reference system. To do this copy and paste the wikitext of the example ref included in brackets ([1]). You can reference a range of pages by using pp=21–25 instead of just p, for example. Any problems, let me know. Kosack (talk) 12:54, 3 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ah I see, I was thinking there was some sort of general season overview page or similar. There's no harm in adding a ref for each match though if that's what needs to be done. Kosack (talk) 14:47, 3 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
There's no reason not to add a ref for each match. The information needs to be properly sourced, I was just looking for the easiest way to go about doing it. Kosack (talk) 07:30, 4 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I've moved the reference out of the heading as they shouldn't be used there. But in its current state, I don't see any reason the article shouldn't be allowed into main space. Kosack (talk) 12:04, 4 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
