Species drafts

[edit]

Hi SirBrahms, I'm Bonadea, known from such talk page posts as "Your submission at Articles for creation: Trichorhina anophthalma has been accepted". Thank you for creating these species drafts! Since there are usually no issues with them, there is no real reason for you to create them as drafts to be submitted and reviewed by other editors – you are welcome to create articles without going through the Articles for Creation process, though you may of course keep using AfC if you prefer. Personally, when I create a new article (which is not very often), I first create it as a draft in my sandbox and move it to encyclopedia space when I think it's ready for that.

One thing I wanted to mention, which many editors are not aware of, is that when you cite a journal article, the "page" parameter should be the page(s) where the information is supported. It is by no means a major issue if the parameter shows the range of pages for the article in the publication, the way references in journal articles do, but it's better to use the parameter correctly since that helps the reader locate the information more quickly! More information here. Regards, --bonadea contributions talk 10:08, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! I will make sure to update my articles.
I will probably be moving off AfC soon (especially with your suggestion, thank you!!), but I still have some articles that are in the AfC-system.

WoRMS references

[edit]

Hi @SirBrahms. Our paths seem to have crossed, whilst working on the genus Iais. I note that you have posted the same question on three fora asking for help with templates, admittedly you were redirected twice. The first time you asked the question, you provided examples of what you regarded 'good' - Iais chilense and 'bad' - Janiridae. I have looked at these pages, and whilst they both access the WoRMS database, they do in different ways: 'Good' uses the right way with {{Cite WoRMS}}; 'Bad' attempts to do the same thing using {{Cite journal}} which is probably not supported and definitely not advisable.
So, I would say WP:be bold and change it yourself. As long as you follow the syntax in Template:Cite WoRMS and make your edits in good faith, you are doing the right thing and improving the encyclopaedia. I make corrections like this all the time. Here is how I changed it (although, that was from {{cite web}} but you should get the idea). I hope that answers your question, if not; I hope the fora come through for you! Thank you! While this doesn't fully answer my question, it does provide a way to correct faulty links. - SirBrahms (talk) 09:20, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
