Help me!

[edit]

Please help me with Jeremy Houghton page. How do I tidy up the references and should I remove the links from the text above? Thanks

Simone Hancox (talk) 14:31, 15 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Simone Hancox: Hi! To fix the references, you'll want to put each URL that's currently in the body of the page within <ref></ref> tags. For example, instead of writing (citation http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp-features/tp-metroplus/flight-of-light/article4193761.ece) directly in the body of the text, do this: <ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp-features/tp-metroplus/flight-of-light/article4193761.ece|title=Flight of light|last1=Tripathi|first1=Shailaja|date=December 13, 2012|website=[[The Hindu]]}}</ref>. The {{cite web}} template dresses up the citation and makes it look prettier by allowing you to add some bibliographic information to the citation.
I've gone ahead and done that first The Hindu source for you! /wiae /tlk 14:54, 15 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, Simone Hancox. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Jeremy Houghton, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);

Recent edit at Jeremy Houghton

[edit]

Hi Simone, we have a problem at the Jeremy Houghton article. I'm afraid your recent edits are at best inept, there is also the as yet unresolved question of a possible undeclared conflict of interest. The edit removes properly referenced neutral language and replaces it with puffery and praise of the subject with an inept attempt to reference it. Reverting those edits is required by the rules governing biographies of living people, if you reverse it again you could be blocked for Edit warring. You firstly need to properly respond to the enquiry about a possible conflict of interest (in the section directly above this one) and then you should engage with other interested editors by posting about the changes you seek on the article's talk page. Then experienced editors can help to do it correctly within the rules, particularly as the article is about a living person. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 17:51, 4 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The article Jeremy Houghton has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one.
