- The POV discussion IS on the talk page; try reading it.
- Your edit summary accuses me of masking only 1 other edit which you claim is vandalism. Huh?
- Perhaps you were reading a different page.

- According to the contributions page for the IP that added the tag, the only other edit made by that IP was blatant vandalism, and the IP talk page shows a vandalism warning and nothing else. Additionally, the statement that is being "disputed" is a simple fact, not a point of view, and you yourself supported it on the talk page... but did not explain why this was an NPOV violation. Hence, no indication on talk. siafu 13:40, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Tang, Song
[1], it explained that Tang Dynasty's native name is "Tang" but not "Great Tang" or "The Tang Dynasty" --Lmmnhn 22:26, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Taxi-rank approach
[edit]It is the principle where the taxi that arrives first gets to pick up the passenger. So with wikipedia it would mean that the first major contribution (as I agree with MoS that it should be major) should provide the basis of style unless there is a clear reason not to, such as using American English in an article about the UK/a Briton. As I've said, I don't think this is the case with the articles in dispute. John Smith's 22:23, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Names
[edit]I noticed that you expanded the section on names of Beijing. As far as I can see this your additions are repeating in Beijing#History or History of Beijing. Could you pare them down a bit? Would you even be interested in tackling a Names of Beijing article? Even with the current extensive section, we still getting confused comments on Talk:Beijing, which probably implies many more confused readers. Matt 04:43, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
- The only comments I see on the subject on the talk page within the last year are regarding Beijing vs. Peking vs. Peiching. None of these are involved in the additions I made (which were just information from Khanbaliq). So long as there exists a "names of Beijing" section, IMHO, it should be as complete as possible-- having the information split between two sections doesn't make too much sense. siafu 05:11, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
- I agree we want the information in one place, it's just whether the main BJ page is the best place for it. A long section explaining all the names in detail teems to confuse people. If I started a Names of Beijiing article, what do you think of this as a main page text?
Names
[edit]Beijing (北京) literally means "Northern capital". Peking is the name of the city according to Chinese Postal Map Romanization, based on a seventeenth century pronunciation. It is the traditional customary name for Beijing in English and is still used in some other European languages.
In China, the city has had many names, including Zhongdu, Dadu, Shuntian, Beiping and Yanjing in Chinese, and Khanbaliq in Mongolian. The name usually changed when the city became, or ceased to be, the capital.
Matt 07:02, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
- List all the names right up front makes it somewhat redundant when they're explained more in depth. I'd go with:
Then, in more detail, cover the names. And yes, if it's becoming unwieldy in your opinion and that of other editors, it should be split off into a new article. siafu 15:53, 11 September 2007 (UTC)In China, the has had many names, reflecting its changing status and ownership, and occupation. The name was usually changed when the city became, or ceased to be, the capital.

Space missions WikiProject
[edit]Hi, I noticed that you are a member of the Space missions WikiProject. A couple of weeks ago, I proposed that the Space missions and Space travellers projects, which both appear to be inactive be merged into the Human Spaceflight project. Whilst this is being done, the capitalisation of the Human spaceflight project's title would also be corrected (ie. Human Spaceflight → Human spaceflight). The projects are all doing the same/very similar things, and in my opinion, a single, larger, project would be more effective than three smaller, and somewhat inactive projects.. In light of very little response to messages on the project talk pages, I am now sending this message to all members of all three projects, inviting them to discuss the proposal on the Human Spaceflight project's talk page. I would appreciate your opinion on this. Thanks. --GW_SimulationsUser Page | Talk 22:05, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Moto03.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Moto03.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 00:52, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

UAE Noticeboard
[edit]Hi Variable, I've been feeling for some time that a noticeboard for UAE related topics would help centralize discussions and remove inconsistencies/redundancies in UAE related articles. I've been noticing the number of inconsistencies in the Abu Dhabi article and several other UAE-related articles and I think a central noticeboard along the lines of the Australia or India noticeboards would help channel content around the UAE.
A noticeboard is different from a WikiProject in that a noticeboard has no explicit mission-statement other than to provide a central forum for users interested in collaborating on UAE-related issues. I just wanted to get your thoughts on the project, as a regular contributor to UAE-related articles. With the Dubai WikiProject, there has been improvement in the quality of Dubai related articles. However, articles on the other emirates seem to be in bad shape. The noticeboard won't attempt to correct these issues, but will provide a central forum and hopefully, promote collaboration among users interested in UAE articles. It can also serve as a central point to arbitrate edit-wars or provide assistance to other editors (Arabic translations, article assessments, peer reviews, etc). One of the ideas that I had in mind for the noticeboard was to create a set of standard guidelines around structuring articles (standard structure for cities, emirates, locations etc). Your thoughts on setting up such a noticeboard are greatly appreciated. Thanks AreJay (talk) 18:48, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Please help save Repo Man movie article
[edit]Hi Variable,
This guy, Dædαlus, is in there trying to remove parts that you, I and many others contributed to the Repo Man article. Please add to the bottom of this thread on the Repo Man talk page that you think the "Notable Motifs" section should not be blanked (erased), but left as is since the Pulp Fiction article also has a "Notable Motifs" section that isn't being considered for removal at all (even by Dædαlus himself).
While I agree that the "Notable Motifs" section could use some work, it certainly won't help the article to delete the whole thing and erase all our work which consists of many multiple contributers over a course of years. I'm willing to work on it and better incorporate it into the article, he just wants to delete it all!
With consensus, we can stop this guy from deleting all our work soon!
Thanks in advance. Cowicide (talk) 02:09, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

The Greats
[edit]While the list is an interesting one, be careful about adding entries for which there is no source or justification. I've just gone through an axed all the ones that are neither obvious (e.g. Alexander the Great) nor sourced. Just check, before adding an entry, that it's actually clear that said person is known as "the Great" and that it's sourced. siafu (talk) 02:46, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
Thank you very much, I will check carefully Pitt 32 (talk) 02:48, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
Sorry please,Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke is the Great the sames as Bhumibol Adulyadej. Please don't change it again. Pitt 32 (talk) 04:39, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
- It may be true, but you can't simply declare it so and leave it at that. You have to prove it, and just inserting the words "the Great" into the article on Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke doesn't get around this problem. Do you have a source? Who called him "the Great"? When? Is it notable? siafu (talk) 13:59, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Criminal IQ Records
[edit]A tag has been placed on Criminal IQ Records requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Moto03.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Moto03.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Angus McLellan (Talk) 15:29, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
