Gerbilling

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, but when you add or change content, as you did to the article Gerbilling, please cite a reliable source for the content of your edit. This helps maintain our policy of verifiability. Take a look at Wikipedia:Citing sources for information about how to cite sources and the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Sorry for the generic template for newbies, but it was a newbie move you made.Asher196 (talk) 17:29, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It was not a newbie move. The source intact referenced my edit, the article was even titled "From Gere to Eternity" and specifically mentions Richard Gere.Hoponpop69 (talk) 17:52, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Can we please not do that? Per WP:BLP1E it is unlikely to stay. Prodego talk 08:08, 9 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why? This version is sourced, contains information that isn't in the shooting article, and resembles a biography of a living person rather than a stub.Hoponpop69 (talk) 08:12, 9 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

JLL as atheist.

[edit]

Hello. I think it's different when the AP says, flat out that Loughner is "an ardent atheist" and the Guardian says he is "a vigorous atheist". Neither reporter is quoting JLL's classmates. Isn't this why we rely on "reliable sources" -- at some point a statement becomes more of a fact and less of an opinion? If you see what I mean. --Kenatipo (talk) 19:55, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine, then just merge that info and source into the current sentence instead of having the article with two similar sentences back to back.Hoponpop69 (talk) 19:57, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Re Jared Loughner's mental state

[edit]

As I indicated in the edit summary, I think the quote you inserted regarding Loughner's mental state may violate WP:BLP policy. Could you discuss this on the article talk page? I've started a section for this. AndyTheGrump (talk) 20:32, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! It seems you recently created an unreferenced biography of a living person: Mikey Erg. The community has decided that all new biographies of living persons must contain a reliable source that supports at least one statement made about the person in the article as per our verifiability policy. Please add references as soon as possible. Thanks! --LaraBot (talk) 00:10, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hardcore punk's influence on other genres

[edit]

I noticed your edit to Hardcore punk, specifically at the section "Influence on other genres." Removing referenced information, particularly an entire referenced section of a page, can be considered vandalism.

You commented that "it has nothing to do with anything relating to this article." If you truly feel that way, than discuss it at Talk:Hardcore punk. However, information about the fusion of hardcore punk subgenres and electronic music could not be in a better location. The section "Influence on other genres" appropriately contains information about the fusion of hardcore punk and a variety of other genres. Best wishes and happy editing :o) --♫ Chris-B-Koolio ♫ ... Be careful marking edits as minor

[edit]

Hello, several of your edits on the hardcore page were marked as minor and had no rationale, but these edits were in fact removing bands from the page. According WP:VANDTYPES, marking non-minor edits as minor can be seen as gaming the system and a type of vandalism. I am sure that you meant no ill intent, but please refrain from doing this in the future. Thanks,--3family6 (talk) 21:18, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

AC/DC

[edit]

It would be good to use a small amount of common sense with the discography section of the AC/DC article. The non-Australian release of High Voltage was not at any point issued or marketed as a compilation, and in terms of almost the entire world, it was unreleased material. I assume you are not saying that High Voltage and Iron Man 2 are essentially the same type of album. High Voltage was the first release outside Australia, and to omit it from a discography is misleading and confusing. Nobody's saying we should add Greatest Hits albums, which is what those small discography sections are supposed to omit. If anything, the two Australian albums should be set aside from the rest, with a proper international discography underneath - that would be the sensible route to take. Bretonbanquet (talk) 20:33, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am using common sense, it doesn't matter if it wasn't available in most of the world, it is still old material being reissued, and not a studio album. If you look at other pages discography sections, like The Clash, you don't see the distinct U.S. and U.K. versions of their first album listed.Hoponpop69 (talk) 00:55, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, in that case, obviously - the thing to do is to remove the local issues. I see you just edit war in lieu of a proper discussion. You are wrong, but it's just a case of "I'm right, and the page 'will reflect my views". Top editing. Bretonbanquet (talk) 20:06, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have started a discussion at Talk:AC/DC#High Voltage in discography section, where a consensus can be established. Your analogy of The Clash is not really the same issue, and your claim that "it doesn't matter if it wasn't available in most of the world" appears to be unsubstantiated. Bretonbanquet (talk) 22:02, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Will you stop edit-warring? I left the discography section at your preferred version to avoid an edit war which you were intent on continuing, and started a discussion. Then you start another edit war at the lead section, over the pettiest thing. Start a discussion if you don't like something, per the guidelines. Bretonbanquet (talk) 10:12, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, but I just don't see how that at all can be considered a controversial edit. It's simple common sense, to either list all the dates or none of them, as it is currently completely inconsistent. It seems like you are picking on me, and just trying to goad me by reverting non-controversial edits. I find it hard to believe that you honestly think the version listing two exact dates, and years for all the rest, better than a consistent version.Hoponpop69 (talk) 17:53, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

So you keep doing it... read WP:3RR. You keep reverting to your version, away from the established version, despite the fact there's a discussion going on? Anyway, what are you even talking about - "all the rest"? Only three albums have a release date mentioned, and two have the full date - the first and the last. I'm picking on you? When you edit-war against me and others on a daily basis over trivial matters? I'll tell you what's non-controversial, and that's having a full release date for a couple of albums in the lead. I don't care one bit what you find hard to believe. You need to try engaging in discussion instead of reverting to whatever version you like best, not doing both. Bretonbanquet (talk) 18:28, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Please file a complaint. You have openly admitted that you refuse to discuss this issue, and it's clear from this page that I have tried quite hard to get you to discuss this properly. Take it to whatever admin page you want. Bretonbanquet (talk) 13:51, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the page is now protected. It would be worth us discussing the matter sensibly, either here or at the article's talk page, so that there's no recurring problem when the protection expires. Don't assume I'm harassing you - I have no issue with any of your edits apart from this one, and the High Voltage issue which was resolved in the proper manner. Bretonbanquet (talk) 15:55, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

And I will now be reporting you for harassing me.Hoponpop69 (talk) 19:49, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

AC/DC

[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on AC/DC. Users are expected to collaborate with others and avoid editing disruptively.

In particular, the three-revert rule states that:

  1. Making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period is almost always grounds for an immediate block.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you continue to edit war, you may be blocked from editing without further notice.

Misuse of the "minor edit" checkbox

[edit]

Thank you for your contributions. Please remember to mark your edits, such as your recent edits to Dog Eat Dog (band), as "minor" only if they truly are minor edits. In accordance with Help:Minor edit, a minor edit is one that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute. Minor edits consist of things such as typographical corrections, formatting changes, or rearrangement of text without modification of content. Additionally, the reversion of clear-cut vandalism and test edits may be labeled "minor". Removal of content of any kind does not constitute a minor change.

Fox News & Kardashian

[edit]

Can you find no better source than Fox etc? Some quality broadsheet newspaper, for example? I realise that it is subjective but if you had something from, say, The Times then you would have a far better chance of the project retaining the statement. Personally, I do not give a fig about the Kardashians but the heat there is ridiculous in part because of the nature of the sources that are used. - Sitush (talk) 02:35, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You have done it again, Look, please read WP:BLP and stop adding stuff that is sourced to gossip-type columns in newspapers etc. It is not acceptable. Does this again and I may seek an administrator's review of what is going on because you clearly do not have consensus. - Sitush (talk) 14:20, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

December 2011

[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Kim Kardashian. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware, Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made; that is to say, editors are not automatically "entitled" to three reverts.

If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Sitush (talk) 14:34, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am unsure what your issue is with Kim Kardashian but you really are warring against several people now. Why not take it to the talk page and try to get some consensus? - Sitush (talk) 01:23, 28 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I noticed you made an edit to the article List of television series notable for negative reception, removing a bunch of "unsourced" edits. I appreciate the help, but in the process you took out a bunch of ones that were indeed sourced, although in the text (e.g. names of book and author, ranking on already-cited lists) and not with a traditional citation or <ref> tag. I reverted the article back to the one before your edit, not out of spite or vandalism, but to restore the erroneous removals. Over the course of tomorrow, I'll weed out the ones that are truly unsourced (and there are quite a few in there that do need to be removed, either for lack of sources or for merely being mediocre and not among the worst or most poorly received, which was what the point of that article is supposed to be). So please don't take offense! J. Myrle Fuller (talk) 03:38, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Punk rockers—As you know, the Ramones are undeniably the first punk rock band, so it is vital to this genre that we collaborate to improve their scope! So far, I have worked on the band's first three albums, and it would be awesome if all the punks on Wiki would aid in expanding/cleaning the Ramones articles. You can see my progress here.
Please fellow fans, do this for the old-school punk.

[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Tooth & Nail Records.

If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Walter Görlitz (talk) 16:29, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Untitled 21: A Juvenile Tribute to the Swingin' Utters

[edit]

The article Untitled 21: A Juvenile Tribute to the Swingin' Utters has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unreferenced since January 2011.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Your inappropriate unilateral merger of "Discordian calendar" with "Discordianism"

[edit]

Unfortunately, this was an undesirable change in a number of respects, and the way you did it (unilaterally without any prior consultation of any kind, as far as I can discover) made it highly inappropriate. If you want this merger to go through, then start the process rolling in the proper manner -- by adding the correct templates to the tops of the articles involved, stating your reasons for the merger on the suitable article talk page, and waiting for favorable and/or unfavorable discussion to occur. AnonMoos (talk) 12:07, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Pointless "pockmarking" tagging

[edit]

The purpose of tags such as "citation needed" is to single out passages which are in need of special attention. If you automatically add tags to the end of every paragraph, then you aren't accomplishing anything too meaningful, since tagging everything without distinction is functionally the same as tagging nothing... AnonMoos (talk) 12:07, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Useless "pockmarking" tagging again (on article "Discordian calendar" this time)

[edit]

As I told you before directly above, indiscriminately adding tags to the end of every paragraph or sentence is really rather useless, since it goes against the basic purpose of such tags, which is TO SINGLE OUT PARTICULAR PASSAGES IN NEED OF SPECIAL ATTENTION. Indiscriminate "pockmarking" tagging really accomplishes very little except to annoy other people... AnonMoos (talk) 00:09, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

STOP YOUR QUASI-VANDALISTIC MESSING AROUND WITH ARTICLE "Discordian calendar"

[edit]

"Citation needed" tags are to be used on Wikipedia with common sense and to serve a useful purpose (and not whatever you're trying to use them for). Basically all of the assertions that you've been pointlessly tagging up can be found on http://www.principiadiscordia.com/book/41.php , which is the very first link given on the page! The URL http://www.principiadiscordia.com/book/41.php is not going to be linked at the end of every single sentence, because that's not the way Wikipedia works. If there's something significant in the article which is not supported by http://www.principiadiscordia.com/book/41.php or any other provided reference, then it's OK to add a specific "citation needed" tag with discretion. What's not OK is to go on a meaningless indiscriminate pockmarking rampage... AnonMoos (talk) 15:09, 22 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi Hoponpop69! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Donald Trump that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. Discordianism and you

[edit]

Howdy. I have a dilemma you might be able to help me with.

I saw in the edit history https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Discordianism&type=revision&diff=750397473&oldid=742679404 that you're the one who gave Ek-sen-trik-kuh Discordia: The Tales of Shamlicht its own paragraph in Discordianism. It was removed in this edit: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Discordianism&oldid=1006830376. The editor's notes for that edit say, " Ek-sen-trik-kuh Discordia: The Tales of Shamlicht is not considered a major Discordian work and this edit was placed here by the author."

Now here's my dilemma. I believe it is notable enough to be included in the article. You can see the paragraph at https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Discordianism&oldid=1006819520#Ek-sen-trik-kuh_Discordia:_The_Tales_of_Shamlicht That paragraph, in one form or another, has been there for years. My problem is that book has a number of contributors, and I am one of them. So my adding it back in might look like shameless self-promotion or some such.

I am friends with the primary author, who claims he is not you. So would you consider adding that paragraph back in?

Thanks for your consideration. Alden Loveshade (talk) 20:10, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to add it back, I don't remember adding it in the first place. I mostly just removed unsourced content from that page.Hoponpop69 (talk) 22:48, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate the suggestion, but I'd really rather not, especially as part of the reason for removing it was alleged conflict of interest/shameless self-promotion. I understand if you don't want to add it back yourself; if not, I could mention it on the article's talk page. Please let me know what you prefer. BBC Sessions: 1964-1977 moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, BBC Sessions: 1964-1977, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. ... discospinster talk 03:13, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Rock Against Sexism, I don't think it's a good idea to delete all the prose from an article and then nominate it for speedy deletion under WP:CSD#A7. If you believe the article should be deleted, I recommend taking it to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion instead. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 04:58, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If you are claiming a subject is notable and it's quite contentious, at the very least you need to throw out anything yellow, red or grey at WP:RSPS. This isn't to say if you have a bunch of green sources you'll be fine, but I don't understand why people keep using deprecated or generally unreliable source and are then surprised when others object on a highly contentious BLP. Theory of mind - even more citations?

[edit]

I am not quite sure what you meant with this edit: [3]. The article Theory of mind currently has 158 citations and no citations-needed-tags at all. Are the current citations not good enough, or do you really think that 158 is not enough? Or am I missing something? I do not want to sound ironic and am genuinly interested in your reasoning. Mark in wiki (talk) 18:25, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Take a look at the article, there are sections of it with large chunks unsourced such as "Philosophical and psychological roots", "Development", "Theory of mind in adults", etc. In fact, just about every section has at least one thing lacking a citation.Hoponpop69 (talk) 20:29, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Hoponpop69,

I saw your work on articles related to anarchism and wanted to say hello, as I work in the topic area too. If you haven't already, you might want to watch our noticeboard for Wikipedia's coverage of anarchism, which is a great place to ask questions, collaborate, discuss style/structure precedent, and stay informed about content related to anarchism. Take a look for yourself!

And if you're looking for other juicy places to edit, consider expanding a stub, adopting a cleanup category, or participating in one of our current formal discussions.

Feel free to say hi on my talk page and let me know if these links were helpful (or at least interesting). Hope to see you around. czar 17:39, 23 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Your Edits on pages for a punk singer and his recently disbanded group

[edit]

Hey! I was just reaching out to explain why I reverted your edits on those pages. To preface, I think they were very good-faith edits. I also think common sense makes it clear who the allegations are discussing (and I'll just say here that I've heard things elsewhere that make the allegations painfully believable, so I didn't delete them due to any personal disbelief). I deleted them because of general WP:BLP (Biographies of Living Persons) guidelines that would have made edits like those unacceptable. None of the sources specifically say "these allegations are about Justin Sane." They all say, "People have connected the allegations to the lead singer and the band subsequently disbanded." Regardless of common sense, the page has to reflect what is safest for the reputation of a living person who hasn't gone through a formal trial or something. It wasn't personal or anything, either. Hope you understand. Have a great day :) —Afddiary (talk) 17:47, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Hoponpop69

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Mdann52, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I've proposed an article that you started, Foot in Mouth (EP), for deletion because it meets one or more of our deletion criteria, and I don't think that it is suitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia. The particular issue can be found in the notice that is now visible at the top of the article.

If you wish to contest the deletion:

  1. Edit the page
  2. Remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. Click the Publish changes button.

If you object to the article's deletion, please remember to explain why you think the article should be kept on the article's talk page and improve the page to address the issues raised in the deletion notice. Otherwise, it may be deleted later by other means.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Mdann52}}. And remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. Thanks!
