problems adding image from another site such as amazon.co.uk

You need to be careful in adding images from Amazon to ensure that they are freely-usable images. Generally Amazon holds some form of copyright on the image and thus you can't download it and re-upload to Wikipedia. Primefac (talk) 21:15, 10 September 2014 (UTC)
Such images are almost guaranteed to be copyrighted, non-free content. Their use is governed by the non-free content criteria, which severely restrict the use of non-free images on Wikipedia. For example, photos of living person are not acceptable. A book cover might be covered by fair use, though. Check the non-free content criteria, make sure the proposed use of the image will comply with all of them, upload it via the File Upload Wizard, provide an explicit fair use rationale, and add the image to the article as explained in the picture tutorial or the book infobox documentation. Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Mightier Than The Sword (Jeffrey Archer novel) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here.  GILO   A&E 23:23, 10 September 2014 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Mightier Than the Sword, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/a/jeffrey-archer/mightier-than-the-sword.htm.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) Final Warning

After having the article delete for copyright infringement, you go and infringe yet a different website and just copy their words when recreating the same article. If you do this again, you will be blocked. Copyright infringement is an issue we take very serious, and the community has made it clear that it won't be tolerated. Dennis 00:49, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

Dennis You are absolutely right. But perhaps you can just read what I have to say on the article's talk page and please calm down. I am a new user and while you had deleted the page I was editing it.--Shivamagg2008 00:52, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
  • We don't have a choice but to delete when the entire page is copyright infringement, policy demands it. Being new is fine, but you need to understand that all articles MUST be in your own words, and be supported by citations. You can't just copy text, or even just move around their words (plagiarizing), it must be unique. If the book hasn't been released, it is likely not notable enough for inclusion. See WP:Notability (books). Dennis 00:55, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

Dennis Such articles are only accepted under criteria other than those provided in this guideline, typically because the anticipation of the book is notable in its own right. In such cases there should still be multiple independent sources providing strong evidence that the book will be published, which sources include the title of the book and an approximate date of publication. Wouldn't amazon.com and the publisher itself confirming the dates suffice also provided that Jeffrey Archer is a notable author with almost all his books being on the bestseller lists for more than 6 months from release and New York Times also praising him?--Shivamagg2008 01:04, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

  • Amazon is pretty useless for that. There are two different kinds of sources, those that prove that a fact is true or a thing exists (Amazon is ok for that). Then there are sources that show that something is notable. An article that simply mentions a book might prove it exists, but that doesn't make it notable. A New York Times review of the books, well that is the gold standard for proving it is notable, although it doesn't require a newspaper that large. Stuff like a "Goodreads" listing and review or reviews from similar websites doesn't show notability, although can be used to source a summary of the book. "Existing" isn't good enough, it has to be shown to be truly notable, and Notability#books is THE standard for books here. You can always create the article in user space, work on it, then when it gets released and a couple of major outlets review it, just move it into main space. You do this by creating it as a sub page of your user or talk page. ie: User:Shivamagg2008/Mightier Than the Sword. As long as it isn't infringing copyright, it doesn't matter if it is notable if it is in your userspace being worked on. I do this all the time for large articles, it is a common method. I recommend asking an established editor before moving it into main space (doesn't need to be an admin, just anyone with 5k or more edits). This way they can tell you if there is a shortcoming that needs addressing. WP:AFC is another option, but not a good one for a book that isn't out yet. Dennis 01:18, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

Dennis Can you provide me with the text and data of that article so that I can keep it in my userspace?--Shivamagg2008 14:11, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

Re-initiating INCOTM

It's been almost an year since "Indian collaboration of the month" was active. Firstly we need to restart this as soon as possible for development of India-related articles to greater heights. Supporting Indian Wikipedia Program resource distribution

In 2017 - 2018, the Wikimedia Foundation and Google working in close coordination with the Centre for Internet and Society (CIS), Wikimedia India chapter (WMIN) and user groups will pilot a program encouraging Wikipedia communities to create locally relevant and high-quality content in Indian languages. This program (Code name: Project Tiger) will:

(a) Support active and experienced Wikipedia editors through the donation of laptops and stipends for internet access and
(b) Sponsor a language-based contest that aims to address existing Wikipedia content gaps.

The objective of the program is to provide laptops and internet stipends for existing editors who need support to contribute more actively. 50 basic model Acer Chromebooks and Internet stipends for 100 contributors are available for distribution. Provided resources are the sole property of the beneficiaries and should be used for the betterment of the movement.

If you're an active Wikimedian, and interested to receive support from this project, please apply. It will take around 10 minutes of your time, and will ask descriptive questions about your contribution to Indic Wikimedia projects.
