SPA attack on Joe Trohman

Regarding your good work reverting/warning/AIVing the vandal sockfarm, I have semi-protected Joe Trohman (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) for two days. If you have a spare five mins or so, I suggest you list this at WP:RFCU#IP check (following the instructions there). I have blocked the four accounts which were involved. Cheers, Daniel.Bryant 09:40, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Done. Thanks for getting that situation taken care of. :) -- Shadowlynk 10:01, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism on my user page

Hey, thanks for catching that. And he told me "to get out more"! HornetMike 14:31, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Note on speedy1 warning

You may not have realized, but you warned User:CaptainKirk91 for deleting a speedy deletion template from Tyler Kirk, but there is no evidence that that user created the article. I agree that the user is in cahoots with the creator somehow, but there's no policy preventing another editor from removing a speedy template. Feel free to remove this note if you think I'm an idiot. -- Mufka (user) (talk) (contribs) 01:39, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

I would never suggest you're an idiot, I just misinterpreted. I always thought that unless you were an admin ruling against the nomination or something, you weren't supposed to remove the tag, that you were supposed to use hangon and argue your case. I didn't realize it only applied to a specific individual. I guess I didn't read it close enough. Frankly, it seems like a rather obvious loophole, where editors in possible cahoots could just play deletion games all week. AFD tends to get a little annoyed when an obvious speedy candidate is brought up for the long nomination. Just way too much work for a blatant non-notable bio... -- Shadowlynk 01:57, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

I think you guys take this policing stuff a bit too far. I *will* admit I was creating a half-joke article ("Jay the Fat"), but it was going to be backed up with some legit sources. The character is from a lengthy computer game saga I created a while ago, and though it's not on store shelves, there is a community built around it and I intend on Wiki-ing that as well. Obviously I am very new to this all. My point in this ramble is that I was writing my first article and experimenting (I guess I should've used the sandbox) a lot, and within 2 minutes of saving the article originally (which was incomplete) it was already flagged for deletion. Then even after I added "hangon" to it since I wasn't even close to done with it, it was gone within another minute. You didn't even give it a chance. You probably just saw it involved POOPY and figured I was some immature kid.

Dude, I understand it's fun having power, but relax. This seems like an excellent and very fun online community, and I realize there is a great potential for people to abuse and vandalize. However, I feel there's a difference between being a "Wikipedia new page police officer" and being a "Wikipedia Nazi." ArcanePathos 18:26, 26 April 2007 (UTC) ArcanePathos

Sorry you got the wrong impression about a lot of things.
  • I have no more power here than any other normal user. I put tags on articles that I think, according to the rules, should be deleted, and revert stuff that looks like vandalism. Any other user can do the same thing, any other user can disagree and change it back or use talk pages to discuss objections, any regular user can vote against articles for deletion nominations, and any admin reviewing the speedy deletion tags can decide I'm wrong and not delete an article I've tagged for deletion. I don't do any deleting unilaterally.
  • Wikipedia seems to be trying its hardest to be a serious encyclopedia, and whether it's entirely successful at that or not, random unverifiable articles don't fit in with that goal. I'm very truly sorry that Wikipedia didn't set up their service for unencyclopedic humor articles, articles about things you made (or made up), or non-notable computer games. I'm also very sorry that your article appears to meet one of the criteria for speedy deletion. I didn't make up the rules, and I don't really care to object to any of them.
  • Still, no one's gonna hate you forever or anything just because the rules say your first article should be deleted. Just take it as an opportunity to learn Wikipedia's rules so you can make better articles next time. -- Shadowlynk 19:50, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
Heh, I appreciate the official response. Listen bud, I didn't mean to come off as an irate jerk, but obviously my lack of understanding Wikipedia completely caused some issues with my first attempt at an article. If Wikipedia's aim is only to include "formal" and "serious" articles, then I can respect that. And if what you say is true, that no one's going to hate me for screwing up my first attempt at an article, then I'm more than happy to try another article. :)
And if by "non-notable computer game," you mean one that hasn't been officially published or anything, then I can roll with that. The game was just a small project, and only around 100 people were exposed - someone just thought I should create an article about it, and for some reason I decided to start by creating an article about a *character* within it. Hey, you're right, I am just learning the rules around here and it's not worth it to fight about something like this because I really do have the utmost respect for this site. I think it is one of the greatest things to come into existence. On that note, take it easy.
Oh, can you make sure that article just gets deleted then? I don't see a point in Wiki-ing that nor the whole game concept right now. Thanks! ArcanePathos 20:51, 26 April 2007 (UTC) Arcane Pathos
Looks like the admins JUST got it. Again, not much more I can do beyond tagging it, but they're usually on top of stuff like that. Anyway, I'm sorry too if I seemed a little harsh. Sometimes I deal with too many people who know what they're doing wrong, and I end up getting bitey with the people who don't know. I linked to a few useful rules regarding that article in my last message, and I'll also put a welcoming message on your talk page with some more useful links to help you along (that probably should've been put there first and foremost!). -- Shadowlynk 21:04, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
I hear ya, I'm sure in your position half the crap you deal with is people who know exactly what they're doing wrong. Thanks for the links, that actually helps a lot - peace out buddy! ArcanePathos 21:19, 26 April 2007 (UTC) ArcanePathos

vandalism

sorry about the vandalism but it was not me because my Ip is shared —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 209.177.12.4 (talk) 18:41, 26 April 2007 (UTC).

No need to apologize for something you didn't do. It's fairly common for IPs to have trouble like that. I would highly recommend making an account to avoid problems like this. That way, if the vandal using your IP keeps it up and gets the IP banned, you can still keep editing on your regular account. Also, you won't have to see warning messages going to the anon IP. -- Shadowlynk 19:57, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

I didn't make that ' m i doin it rite ' page. Supergeo 20:57, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Stabbed that Nigga Deletion

C'mon, please don't delete it, I spent alot of time into it, I will remove the YouTube thing but please let it stay please! 05:32, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Sharrieff C., May 20th, 10:31pm

I don't make the final decision, I only tag the articles for review. Either way, it's a non-notable story or video or whatever and Wikipedia is not for things that can't be verified with sources. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 05:42, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Seoul Kims' guest house

I see you added some sort of dbcorp tag to an article I just made? I also see you are a patrol officer of sorts? I wonder if you think I am some sort of ad maker? I only made an article about a youth hostel I just stayed in recently. I have no connection financially to this hostel. Thanks... any questions? :) Nesnad 19:51, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I have a question. How is the youth hostel notable? This has nothing to do with spamming (that's a different speedy delete criteria altogether). If there's nothing about it that makes it notable, verifiable, or citable with a reliable source, it doesn't get an article. Oh, and I apologize for not putting a note on your talk page about it, I think I missed it. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 19:58, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Yes, please be careful with no note deleting. I've suffered that a few times recently or related pain (specifically with a large batch of pictures that were legally uploaded but with apparently wrong tags, which resulted in mass deletion which damages my reputation). Why isn't this notable? Just because you don't know it doesn't mean many others don't. I request the removal of this tag as I respectfully claim it to be close minded. Thank you. (PS. its late here, I'm going to bed for now, but will reply to you when I can, thanks.) Nesnad 20:17, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

It's not that people KNOW it isn't notable, it's that the article doesn't give us any evidence of it. You have to put the citations in the article itself. And again, if people are behaving the way they're supposed to no one will think you're a troll or a bad person because a few pictures and an article got deleted. Only that you didn't know the rules and made an innocent mistake. Happens to everyone. Just happened to me in fact; I didn't put a note on your talk page right away like I was supposed to. :) -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 20:24, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Sorry if I sound annoyed, but I am. People are already responding to your trigger-happy tagging. Someone just cited some thing like a violation of WP:CORP when you yourself said it wasn't. You need to be big enough inside to recognize your mistake and leave a comment regarding it, and to remove your tag. I have provided sources for two books which list this hostel. Many wikipedia articles don't even have one book for a source. This article is noteworthy and if you cling to the argument that you are only trying to "help" I must wonder if you are a new generation wikipedia vandal. Are you out to tag and kill information or help it grow? Nesnad 02:55, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Please try to stay calm, no one's a vandal or a bad guy. We just have a difference of opinion.
  • First of all, I DID say it was a possible violation of WP:CORP. CORP is a specific guideline under the general notability class of guidelines. Though it offers some helpful pointers on avoiding sounding spammy, WP:CORP is much more concerned with notability than spam. WP:SPAM is the guideline on spam, which is what I said wasn't the violation.
  • Second of all, the books were not on the page at all when I originally tagged the article. I followed proper speedy deletion procedure when I tagged the article: it was an article about a business that had no claim of notability in the article. It's not my job to find the citations myself; the verifiability policy says the burden of evidence is on the person who introduces the information. The article has a claim to notability now, which changes the situation.
  • Third of all, the proper procedure is still being followed, which is when a contested speedy nomination is given a claim to notability, it goes to Articles for Deletion for a full debate among the entire community about whether the claims are enough. I can make an argument if I want, but it's well out of my hands to put a stop to it now. You can share your opinion and evidence here, and that link is also in the new box at the top of the article.
I apologize if you feel offended or angry because of my actions, but all I can tell you is I feel I followed procedure properly and all I intended was to follow procedure. I never meant any offense. I'm very sorry if I've upset you. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 06:41, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Westdrift

Hello Shadowlynk, I am just replying to the message you sent me about ym westdrift article. Could you please futher explain why you want to delete it? I made sure to follow all the rules and put lots of info and history into the article which I was going to build on as more things happened. It wasn't (atleast it wasn't meant to be) advertizing or anything and was not a biased article either. I used no copywrited material.

Thanks, Doadrift 10:29AM Friday 15 June 2007

As the message said, it was deleted for lack of notability. It had nothing to do with lack of information, advertising, or copyright. The suggested talk page warning is different for those. An article about a website has to assert notability that meets the criteria in the WP:WEB guideline. If the website doesn't meet that criteria, the article gets deleted. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 09:35, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

So how would I get notability? I feel things the club have done have been historic for drifting in this part of the country and I feel thats something worth noting? I read what it said but I dont quite understand what it means. Is there any way I could fix the article so that it could stay? - Doadrift 3:50pm 20th June 2007

You have to look for something you can cite as a source, like in an academic paper. Have there been any detailed newspaper or magazine articles about the group? Any major awards? If things like that exist, if you make the article again make sure to mention what that article says about them that makes them important, and include information about how to find the article. If the article is on the magazine or newspaper's website, a link to the article will work. Make sure it's a reliable source; a tiny local, school, or self-published paper probably won't do, but a large city/state paper or major trade/fan magazine is better. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 04:54, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
Oh, and just as a tip, you can easily sign your name and date to a talk page message with four ~'s (~~~~). The system will then automatically put the information in for you. :) -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 04:59, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

ok thank you very much for the help! I'll see what I can find. Doadrift 04:37, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Paying more attention

I was noted after a "speedy deletion" and told I was to come here, I don't wish to defend my first article and i don't mind it being taken off of the site completely due to it's lack of relevance etc. I know i should've at least given it a second thought, I don't really know why I posted it maybe I'm tired, anyway, I'm sorry if it's caused you any trouble and I'll wait until I have something worth writing down before I submit another anything else. I'll make sure to use the sandbox next time.

On proposed S.K. Thoth article...

Hello, and thank you for contacting me. I've laid out justifications for article retention in the talk section of S.K. Thoth. I'm inexpierienced at creating Wikipedia articles, but bear with me, I learn quickly. Can you point me to where I can learn how to capitalize the subject itself? It currently lists as S.k. thoth, and I'd like it to read S.K. Thoth. DesScorp 06:33, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

That's OK, learning by experience is just fine. :) Your reasons to keep it looked solid so I removed my deletion request. Generally to avoid stuff like that, you want to make sure your first draft of the article explains who/what the subject is and why they're important. With that information, everyone can build on the article with sources and extra details.
As for the capitalization, there's a link next to the edit tab at the top of the page that says "move". If you use that to move the current page to the properly capitalized name, everything that's been done will now be at the correct spot. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 06:40, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
I went ahead and moved it, you can find it at the capitalized name now. The uncapitalized name should automatically take you to the correct page as well. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 08:25, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Speedy Deletion: SmartWool

Shadowlynk,

This may no longer be relevant, as the message I received is dated April 24, 2007, but I only just received an alert to the message (?!). Anyway, I would like to contest the speedy deletion of Smartwool, as I believe it meets the standards for a company. Please let me know what I can do to correct the problem, if there is one. I'm guessing that this is actually some sort of artifact from when I first made the page and did not correctly cite any secondary sources, but I would like to make sure.

Thank you,
Rob.bastholm 04:22, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

You're right, it's an old notice from the first version. The new version is fine, so you don't need to contest anything. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 07:51, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks!

Speedy Deletion: Super Mario Bros Z

I did as you said, and put the hangon thing there, and the explanation on the Talk page. Sorry if this sounds a bit pointless, but like I said, this is my first time doing this so I don't know the proper etiquette. Davidk92 22:20, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

That's fine, you're definitely following the right procedure. Sorry I didn't get a reply to the talk page sooner, various real life stuff came up this evening. :) Anyway, I responded to the specific issues about the article on its talk page. Besides that, don't be discouraged if your first article gets deleted or you're not too sure about how to do something. Innocent mistakes are just that, and people will be happy to direct you to the proper rules or procedures if you're not sure what to do. Typically I'll link the fancy Wikipedia rule words like notability, reliable sources, and such to their proper pages so people know what I'm trying to talk about. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 09:53, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
Well, it seems it was just deleted. Since you probably missed what I said there, I'll repeat it here: the problem lies in the web notability guideline. The article said nothing about why the cartoon was notable, as defined by that guideline. Even if the cartoon is popular on Newgrounds, it may not meet those guidelines. As for other fanworks, check their articles to see if they have citations about how they're important. That's why articles about those fanworks exist. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 10:11, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

Fire the Grid

I tagged it as a "stub" thereby requesting that other editors add information, not delete the article. The "Fire the Grid" prediction/theory/rumor has been around for almost a year, and is comparable in scope to the 1987 Harmonic Convergence theory. Googling "Fire the Grid" comes up with about 2,960,000 results (granted, many of those involve fire and grid but not fire the grid). A Wikipedia article about something which is significant, widely-known, and easily verified and sourced, was 'speedily deleted' at your urging. Jovriel 03:19, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Perhaps the general event is well known, but your page was about one specific website that predicted one specific event. WP:WEB is the notability guideline for articles about a website, and nothing in the article asserted the notability of that specific website. Now, if you were to write a general article about the phenomenon itself, a description of what it is and a history of it and supporters and criticism and so forth, all backed with those obvious sources you're alluding to, would be a much better article that would stand a much better chance of staying around. Now, this is Wikipedia and obviously you don't have to write all that yourself, but you should try to meet minimum stub requirements, which include explaining what something is and why it's notable. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 18:21, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on Agent lenny banks. I do not think that Agent lenny banks fits any of the speedy deletion criteria because this is about a movie, not a peson, so A7 does not apply. it was poorly written so that was less than obvious. I have used prod. DES (talk) 23:42, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

OK. The page seems to have been speedied for every reason under the sun in the past three days, so I guess I'm not the only one who was confused about what to do with it. :) Thanks for the tip though, I'll be more careful about what I apply A7 to in the future. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 00:24, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Everyone has their own idea of fun. I'm very sorry your idea of fun goes against the rules, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Thanks for fixing my userpage, Victor. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 02:43, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Why?

I'm sorry, but this is the second time my page has been deleted, and I don't understand why this is so. This is a really movie, and a lot of work was put into it. Could you please explain to me the reason it is continually deleted? Thank you. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Triple6AndA13 (talkcontribs).

Sure. It was deleted because it was a page about a web movie that doesn't say why it's important or significant. Check the criteria for what qualifies as important or significant at WP:WEB to see if the movie meets any of those requirements. If it does, the article has to explain how. If not, then it doesn't qualify for an article. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 05:56, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

fast action on BLP

shadowlynk, when you catch a bio that asserts that someone is a prostitute, or something of the sort, which should certainly be deleted, it's probably even better to delete it via speedy A10, attack page (db-attack), as there is almost always somebody keeping an eye on that group of speedies, and deleting them immediately. You can also blank the page as well, but they go so quickly that it may not really be necessary. thanks for the patrolling!! DGG (talk)

Slim surfing

Hi. Apologies for posting link. It was not meant to be an advertisement as the site is not a revenue generating venture but merely a public service. The reference to my site has now been deleted. Please instruct me if I need to amend anything else. Irishfinancialtimes 21:22, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Unfortunately, the term doesn't seem notable at all. I've mentioned most of my concerns with the article at the Articles for Deletion listing for the page, you might want to check that out to see why editors think the article won't work. Especially important, in my opinion, are the concerns about notability, nonsense, and conflict of interest. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 22:04, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

Hello!

Hey, thanks for telling me about signing your name I didn't know that. I just joined wikipedia today so I'm still learning the ropes. Dogman the Wise 00:02, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

Glad to hear it. Good first article, by the way. It's so rare to see a new editor's first article in good shape, so you're well on your way. :) -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 22:04, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

For the record...

Please don't assume any of my edits are motivated by issues. My removal of vandalism from an article does not necessarily reflect my approval or disapproval of the subject of the article or the opinions expressed in the vandalism. It just means that inserting blatant opinion in a Wikipedia article is against the rules, a very bad way of getting your voice heard, and a good way to add another hilarious overreaction to my ever growing collection. :) -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 22:04, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

The Character Connection

Hello,

Yliyah613 was inserting info about a man that the Laredo news stations(Univision 27, Laredo Times) keep interviewing concerning why the border town is experiencing the extreme decay of law and order.

I thought it was notable that sheriff Rick Flores of Webb County has been on national news stations defending his position there.

This man, Willam Crouse is all over the news there and the name of this program that he teaches(The Character Connection) keeps popping up around here in Laredo actually he really created a stir in a recent radio station when he told the DJ Nuclear War would begin around June 12 2007, wow you should of heard the DJ on that one.

Oh well...just thought it might be as notable on Wikipedia as it is here in This ravaged border town.

Thanks, Yliyah613, 7/23/2007

PLEASE PROTECT THE DRUNKEN CHESS BOXING PAGE - We're trying to keep this new sport alive. Thank you Shadow - Ansasource 22:15, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia is not the place for stuff that's brand new or things that were just made up. You have to have reliable secondary published sources to cite in order to verify the article's claims. If it doesn't have those sources, it doesn't get an article until those sources exist. Keep the sport alive and make it notable elsewhere, THEN make an article about it. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 22:26, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Ah, I see. Well then, you might want to look at some of the rules for what can be included (WP:N, WP:BIO) and what cannot (WP:NOT) for some tips to help when you make your next article. Also, you can sign your posts on talk pages like this by using ~~~~. It's a lot shorter than having to type out your name and the time you posted every time. :) -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 18:18, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Cybercontrol

Dear Sir: With all due respect, I do not believe that the article I have submitted is an essay. It is rather a compilation of data that is not readily available anywhere and should be at at a website that leads information at the present time which is Wikipedia where everyone goes to obtain updated and comprehensive information. This "free information media" is probably the one that will be most affected by the issues that are being dealt with in this compliation of data -unless this is an issue of cybercontrol itself. If it is not, I certainly do believe that you will be doing a disservice to all persons involved. As John Walker states in "The Digital Imprimatur": Universal access to the internet would provide counteractive force against centralization and concentration in government and mass media acting to limit freedom of expression and unrestricted access to information. The information readily available now is incomplete, altered, fractioned and without continuity achieving its real purpose which is confusion. I would appreciate your assistance in anway possible such that this information is readily available to the millions of users worldwide.--Jhvmdpa 21:17, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

I think you misunderstand what Wikipedia is about. Wikipedia is not for compiling and sharing research on a topic, stating conclusions and making judgments, or in any way publishing original research. It's also not for advocating the specific point of view of a certain author: Wikipedia articles are written from a neutral point of view. Perhaps essay isn't quite the right word, but a research paper that makes conclusions and recommendations not attributed to a reliable source falls under that general guideline of what Wikipedia is not. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 08:35, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

If it's been deleted, I'm afraid it's gone. You'll have to write it again. Also, make sure if/when you do, the article states why the person is notable with reliable sources cited to verify it. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 17:57, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

On User:Wikimina

The Wikipedia:Deletion_policy clearly states that a reason for content delition includes "content that does not belong in an encyclopedia".

Wikipedia:What_Wikipedia_is_not also clearly states that Wikipedia is not a blog, webspace provider, social networking, or memorial site. It goes further with Specifically, this policy states "Wikipedians have their own user pages, but they may be used only to present information relevant to working on the encyclopedia". Also applicable, WP:NOT#USER and WP:UP#NOT... User:Wikimina is violating all of these policies by using their user page as non-relevant-to-Wikipedia information specifically pertaining to the some HCI course. This content is more appropriate on their university webspace, or a free web host, not wikipedia. This user was informed of the policy on 23 Aug and on 27 Aug was suggested that they use alternative venues. Despite this, they have continued to this inappropriate use of Wikipedia's user pages. 12.226.82.118 03:55, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Slipping a speedy delete category tag on the page without giving notification or justification doesn't seem like a very open, friendly way of handling it, though. Nor is it proper procedure for speedy deletion, which would require you to tag the page with the correct speedy deletion reason. It looks like it's going through a miscellany for deletion debate right now, though, which is the proper channel for this. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 07:32, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Images are a very tricky situation to deal with on Wikipedia, since there's a great deal of copyright hurdles to deal with. Your best bet is to carefully read the image use policy, and if you feel that you can upload an image that doesn't violate the rules, use the Special:Upload page to add it. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 06:36, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Deleted Wikipedia Article: Flugpo

Hi, my article was deleted under the context that it too much resembled an advertisment. I had requested some more time, as I was not finished editing it and felt I could have improved the article up to Wikipedia standards, however it was deleted anyway. Is there anyway I could retrieve the article so I can continue working on it? Additionally, I am having trouble creating an article which Wikipedia deems as non-promotional; my articles have been straight to the point factual, yet still get deleted.Thanks. Saracity123 09:00, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Probably the first step would be to check the website notability guidelines to make sure the site meets those criteria. Make sure you can find reliable third party sources to verify that it meets those requirements. Second, review the neutral point of view and spam policies to help make the article sound more neutral. Again, make sure you can source any claims to reliable sources. If you believe you can alter the article to claim notability and sound neutral, you can ask at deletion review to temporarily restore the article to your userpage, where you can try to fix it. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 20:57, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi. So I reviewed Wikipedia's critera and better applied those policies to my article. I have posted it in my userpage and believe I have a completely neutral and verifiable article. Could you direct me where to go next? Thanks. Saracity123 07:43, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Hmm, my best guess would be to ask the help desk. Add a new section and describe the whole situation in detail: you're trying to create a page about the website, it's been deleted for advertisement and lack of notability, your userpage contains your latest version of the page, and ask for help making it meet the requirements. If they can't help, I'm sure they'll know where you should ask. :) -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 08:45, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks very much, I will give that a try. I really appreciate your help. As I am new to writing for Wikipedia, I am now beginning to understand the process and will be able to create articles much more efficiently in the future. 69.200.93.50 22:30, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Surreal Twilight

I'm new to WikiEditing, so I'm not completely sure why you tagged and deleted my page of the same name, "Surreal Twilight." It was a starter page so that people on my site could add to it and complete it. I go out for a couple of hours and then there's a speedy deletion tag on it. I spent three hours writing and researching that, and I'm not particularly happy about it's deletion. At least tell me why you got rid of it.

>.<

Impervium 01:43, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

I only tag articles for deletion, the administrators do the deleting if they agree with the reason. In this case, it was deleted under the notability speedy deletion criteria. An article about a website must explain why it's notable. Notability for websites on Wikipedia is defined in the WP:WEB guideline; check that page for the criteria the website must meet. If your website meets those rules, try making the article again and make sure it explains how the website meets the criteria. If the website doesn't meet those criteria, then it can't have an article. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 08:50, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

The Lance and Chuck Show

I know that you tagged the Lance and Chuck Showpage. it is now down. There is another page just like it. "the Lee W. Mowen Show" is a show on the same station. It has even less content. To be far if one can't stay up the other should not be able to stay up. So you or someone else should check into "the lee w mowen show" page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cubswin5 (talkcontribs) 13:36, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

ANY editor can mark an article for deletion, you know. If you'd like it deleted, mark it with the proper speedy deletion tag. If none of those fit, take it to articles for deletion. The "Fountain of Tyr"

You deleted my entry on the "Fountain of Tyr" stating it as "nonsense", when in fact it's far from nonsense.

While I admit that I didn't state any verifiable sources, simply doing a Google search on "fountain of tyr" (with quotes) will provide a few references to it, and I think that in itself proves there is some validity to the entry in Wikipedia. I also think it's safe to assume that if the entry stays, someone with a verifiable reference in a book or encyclopedia will post the reference to it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SuicideTaxi (talkcontribs) 08:23, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

I didn't delete it, I merely tagged it for deletion. An administrator deleted it. Please don't take it the wrong way, I'm not claiming you did anything wrong intentionally. According to the Tyr talk page, this particular "fact" is actually an act of vandalism that persisted on the Tyr page for about seven months a couple of years ago. The very few links that come up in a Google search are merely copies of that talk page, or discussions spreading that erroneous fact based on the Wikipedia article itself or one of the many sites that copies Wikipedia's material. Absolutely none of these are from reliable, third-party sources. You probably heard this info from one of those sources. Unfortunately, when vandalism doesn't get cleaned up on Wikipedia, things like this can happen. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 08:47, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
  • Okay, understandable confusion. However, I've known about the Fountain of Tyr since long before Wikipedia existed. Unfortunately, the only reference I know of it offhand is from one of Barry Sadler's books in the series "Casca : The Eternal Mercenary". Since this is a work of fiction I didn't cite it as a reference, and also since I couldn't find an online reference to it anyway. So I think in a nutshell, you're going to make me do some homework on this one, ain't ya ;) No worries, I'll track this down because I know it exists, and I actually have friends in Iceland who can assist. I'll update you when I re-submit. Thanks. SuicideTaxi 09:32, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
If it's fictional, be sure to say that in the article. Please also see the guidelines on notability of fictional subjects before resubmitting. This piece of information has been erroneously circulating as fact because of a mistake on Wikipedia, and it would be best not to repeat that mistake. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 09:36, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
No you misunderstand. I'll work on citing a non-fictional reference. Finding the fictional reference would be fairly easy, my aim here is to make it accurate and it will take a bit of work to do so. SuicideTaxi 09:42, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

You need reliable sources as citations to back up the claims of their notability as a group. Be sure to check the notability guidelines I just linked to make sure they meet the requirements. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 22:25, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Abridged Series

So why does my entry not count for a article here, I'm not making an ad, I thought that it would be a great page on here since Abridged Series are becoming beyond common.

But, what type of topic would stay here? Some things wern't all that "notable".

RUROkens 13:40, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

The problem is they don't meet WP:WEB's notability guidelines, even if they are becoming relatively common and popular. Don't get me wrong, I like them and all, but they haven't received outside coverage in reliable sources, which is what Wikipedia requires. Even articles on the most popular one have been deleted for not meeting the criteria. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 22:30, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Penelope Jones is deleted and I could be banned

I made a article about a artist signed to a huge record company, who has released two official music videos, just like Beyonce, Justin Timberlake etc do. She has had three singles, one of which featured MYA, a huge superstar. If you looked at the sources it would have been seen, I also spent time creating it. gave sources, but obviously they were not looked at. it really isnt fair.

I might be banned also, I was trying to help. By getting all these famous people a profile on here.

If a music artist has a record deal, atleast three songs out there, and videos, and a little bit of media hype, doesnt that mean it is okay? I'm just a little confused now. Raintheone 20:54, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

The specific notability guideline for this is WP:BAND. Unfortunately, a couple of songs and being signed to a record label aren't enough; the guideline requires several album releases (or many other things). "Media hype" is hard to quantify, and difficult to cite as a reliable source since it's more advertising than indicating notability. Performing a song with another notable individual doesn't necessarily make that person notable, because notability is not inherited. This issue has been looked at before, and the article has been recreated before, which is why the admin jumped at it. As long as you don't recreate the article, I doubt that you'll be banned. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 22:24, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

You tagged a page titled "Patrick Norman", for speedy deletion. It was subsequently deleted by another administrator, stating copyright infringement. I am to author of the article, biography, his website, and I am his wife. We (Patrick Norman & myself) own all of the rights (all right reserved et al.)for any and all things relating to his projects "Patrick Norman" and "Patrick Norman Music". As an owner and founding member of the band "Rusted Root", Patrick Norman also owns all copyrights (all right reserved, et al.) pertaining to his band Rusted Root. This article was created to give readers an accurate biography of Patrick Norman, not only as a solo artist, but also a current member of Rusted Root. Declining your Speedy on Everette Harp

I'm declining to speedy delete the article Everette Harp. It doesn't meet the standards of blatant advertising GSD#G11 in my opinion. There are problems with the article, tone among others, but I suspect good sources can be found to support an article on this guy. Actually I'm more concerned with biographies of living persons in this case. Still, if you want to PROD it or take it to AfD, be my guest. I just don't think it meets any speedy criteria. Cheers, Pigmanwhat?/trail 01:07, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

It seems like the tone problems that made me think it was promotional were because it was a copyvio of the person's website bio. There's a new version up now that, thankfully, looks much better. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 05:03, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion on Media-Soft.

Hi,

How can companies like mine, have the articles here??? I was trying to write the similar content that was on their pages.

How come a company like Sage, has it's own site and site about the product. And all those information there. Isn't that also advertising?

Help!!! Goran.novak 11:52, 15 November 2007 (UTC)Goran

A few tips: first of all, be careful of conflicts of interest. All the information in an article needs to be written from a neutral point of view, and that can be difficult if you're a part of the company. Barring that, make sure the article talks about why the company is important, not from a sales pitch point of view but from a notability point of view. The WP:CORP guideline is a good place to start with that. If the company doesn't meet those guidelines, then unfortunately it doesn't yet qualify for a Wikipedia article. Also, any citations of reliable, third party sources about the company will help back up any claims you make in the article. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 04:28, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Edmund Hoyle Vestey

Greetings, Shadowlynk. You picked up the article Edmund Hoyle Vestey at some point and left a notice of speedy deletion tag[1] and a comment[2] on the author's talk page. I removed the speedy tag from the article as I recognised the name as being that of somebody who was a member of one of the most notable families of the 20th century, which created and owned one of the biggest meat trading companies in the world and was one of the wealthiest families in the world (second only to the Queen here in the UK). I guess that the author was both inexperienced (fewer than 200 edits) and was writing it from scratch, and had not got very far when Icarus3 placed the tag 14 minutes after the author started the article. Anyway, I picked it up a few hours later (he had placed a hangon tag on it) and have expanded it. I may do a little more work on it but I trust that it is adequate for now. Kind regards. --Malcolmxl5 (talk) 13:23, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. The article when we saw it was just a quote of an obituary, without any information about his importance. Thanks again for expanding it. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 18:26, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

List of Important Subjects

Random lists of personal importance are not appropriate for Wikipedia. Perhaps you should try creating an article about one specific important subject that doesn't have a page yet, or improve an existing article. Remember to cite reliable sources for any information you add! -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 07:05, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Whoa Studios

Okay, what gives? Why'd you delete the Whoa Studios page? Wikipedia has pages up for tons of different webcomics, and over 100 are waiting to be made. God forbid if someone took the initiative to actually create one. You also told me that I could put a hold on thing on the page to slow the process of its deletion. What, did I have about a five MINUTE window to do that in? -- User: Johnnywhoa at 4:35, 16 December 2007 (EST)

I didn't delete it; I only tag articles for deletion. An administrator actually does the deleting. Any article that meets the speedy deletion criteria can be deleted at ANY time. Using hangon only delays the article's deletion if you're immediately correcting the article's problem. Please read the notability standards for web content to see if the web comic meets those standards. If it does, you're free to recreate the page as long as you include something in the article itself about how the comic meets the standards. Citing reliable sources to back up that claim would be an additional help. If it doesn't meet those standards, though, then it doesn't qualify for an article at this time. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 07:47, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Oh, you only tag them. Can you suggest anything that would be accepted by that notability standards for web content thing? I read through it, but don't really see what it is that I'm missing. As for the references, well, I'm its creator. I figured word from the creator of a subject about said subject would cover it, but if needed I'll publish an about section on the home page. And yes, I know about the "Wikipedia is not to be used for advertising" rule. If that is why the article was deleted, or a factor in it, take note: I did not try to publish the page in an attempt to create advertising. Only to expand Wikipedia itself. Attempting to make it have all the information there is. Anyway, let me know what I can do to fix it up, okay? Thank you. --Johnnywhoa (Talk) 11:50, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Don't worry, I think the only major objection was notability. The key information is in the Criteria section. The web comic should have significant coverage in an independent reliable source, such as a newspaper, magazine, major webpage, etc. Or it might be considered if it's received some sort of well-known major award. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 01:02, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
I see. Well it's still sorta new, so I don't have anything big in any newspapers or anything. I'll see what I can do. I work with my school's newspaper, we don't have a cartoonist, I could try that, not sure if it would count or not but. I've got some advertising on a few web sites, but no major coverage. I'll see what I can dig up. Thanks for your time. Also, I notice that the times here on wikipedia are different from those here at my home. Is there a preset time I should use, or just military local? -- Johnnywhoa (Talk) 22:34, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, school newspapers and advertisements usually aren't considered reliable sources. If you focus on building up your webcomic to make it famous on its own, a proper Wikipedia article will probably be written by someone else before you even realize that it's ready to qualify for an article. :) As for the time listings, you can adjust on your preferences page what times are displayed on recent contributions pages, but all times in text on talk pages are in UTC, just because it makes it easier to keep track of the actual order postings were made in. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 07:53, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
