History of English Cricket Team
[edit]Hi, I followed the link to this from the England Cricket Team page and really liked what you'd done, a brilliant start. I've added some generic stuff for the other decades so there aren't any blanks anymore, but I'm sure you could add a lot more good info to flesh it out when you've time. You don't get many thanks on wikipedia so i thought i'd give you one! Good one work is appreciated, even if you never get to know. Nick mallory 10:41, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship Qualification Group 3
[edit]A tag has been placed on 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship Qualification Group 3 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Birmingham City season article
[edit]Hi, I'm impressed you've starting on a season article, it always struck me as too much like hard work, and too difficult to remain neutral on a subject on which I have strong feelings!
You may not know, with your inline references, if you put the title of the article cited inside the square bracket rather than outside, like I've changed them to, it displays the title as the clickable link in your references section rather than just a number.
There is a Manual of Style and a guide to layout which are worth a read, they tell you stuff like the standard way to write dates (without a "the"), guidance about section headings, capitalisation, checking that links go to the page they're supposed to go to, the sort of boring stuff that does actually help to make an article look better and be consistent with other articles in the encyclopedia.
The one thing that people do need to be careful about when writing an article about something they have strong feelings about, is sticking to a neutral point of view and avoiding original research. For instance, the bit you've written about Muamba being well worth his fee is your opinion, and although in time you may be proved right, an experienced editor reading that in an article that wasn't obviously still under construction would promptly delete it as being original research. Like I had to remove the word "unconvincing" from "another unconvincing mid-table finish" referring to Blues 2004–05 on grounds of original research :-(
Sorry if this comes over all patronising, it's not meant that way. And sorry again if I've just been telling you stuff you know already. If there's anything you think I might be able to help with, you only have to ask. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 22:09, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
Transfer dates and seasons
[edit]Hi. The point is that normal contracts (ignoring loans) run to June 30 of whatever year it is. So if a player leaves at the end of his contract, or if he's paid up as Kingson was at the end of a season, then he's written down as leaving during the season just finished. If he joins before June, as Muamba did when his loan was made permanent, or as Heskey did as soon as the transfer window opened, his contract still starts formally on July 1 of the following season, so I'd expect him to be written down as joining for the following season, whatever the actual date his signing was announced. Hope that makes sense! cheers, Struway2 (talk) 17:57, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
Attendances
[edit]Morning. Thanks for making the effort to add the attendance figures to Stans and Muntz St. Please could you tell me what source(s) you used? What I'm intending to do with the St Andrews (stadium) article is pretty much rewrite it using the structure of the better stadium articles around, such as Valley Parade or Portman Road, with a records section similar to what those articles have (though any serious work will have to wait till we come back from holiday). At the moment, it's basically a total copyright violation of one of the Tony Matthews versions of the stadium history, or was until someone tweaked it recently, and completely unsourced.
Where your attendance stats would fit brilliantly, is in an additional column in the Birmingham City F.C. seasons list, where they'd add significantly to the quality of the list, illustrating the changing attendance levels in context of success or otherwise on the field. I've copied them over to this test page and it looks good, so all we need is the source information and I'll copy it back to the seasons list. hear from you soon, Struway2 (talk) 09:43, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- Have added your figures to Birmingham City F.C. seasons, definite improvement, thanks. For the playoff years, I've changed the stats to exclude the home playoff games, for consistency with Matthews' early figures which exclude home test matches, and then added online sources. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 09:26, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Season article
[edit]Hi. Couple of thoughts. You don't think you might be going a bit over the top with the level of detail on such as the backroom staff's birthplaces or the player information, for a season article? And, you need sources for all this stuff. In particular, do you have sources for the players' caps etc, or are they just copied from the Wiki articles (in which case, some are undoubtedly wrong)? though if you do have a source for the Tunisian players' caps, please could you let me know, as I've been looking for one for ages... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 07:54, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
IP vandalism on Nigel Quashie
[edit]It's always worth checking the recent edit history of the article - the West Ham United section was removed by the last IP editor. I've restored it now anyway. Cheers. --Jameboy (talk) 19:02, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
