Your copy and paste page move at Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Wrecking Ball

[edit]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Draft:Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Wrecking Ball a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Wrecking Ball. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 14:43, 10 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Your comment on my draft about the Strange the Dreamer duology

[edit]

Hello!

I really appreciate the feedback you left on my draft. I am new to Wikipedia and am still learning how to use it, which is part of the reason I'm replying to your comment here, as I am not sure where else to reply.

I had a question by what you meant about the primary source, and would you consider the publisher's site a primary source? I changed the author's site to another site, but was just curious why a primary source wouldn't be as good as a nonprimary one. I have changed the Goodreads references so those are no longer a problem. I have also edited a few other things you mentioned, and working on the ones that aren't changed yet.

Also, one more thing, should I delete your comment from the top of the page, or should I leave it there? I am unsure about how what to do with the comment.

Again, thank you! All the help is greatly appreciated. --Shonaker19 (talk) 00:36, 17 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

WP:AFC Helper News

[edit]

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.

  • AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
  • The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.

Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. Cheers, Primefac, via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 16:00, 16 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

R from avoided redirects.

[edit]

The purpose is to highlight and administer where mistakes have been made in the past, not to create mistakes and tag those mistakes. You should look at Ended With the Night (song) more closely, you have even failed to mark the correct redirect target! My recommendation to you is to ask for them all to be deleted as the author. BTW creating redirects for nn songs is not helping any reader. Richhoncho (talk) 09:08, 14 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You're supposed to answer here, not on my talkpage and keep the conversation together. Pls read my comments again,, the first is about R from avoided redirects, why are you creating them? The second relates to redirects from songs which you are creating and I am tagging for the project. I didn't say you shouldn't I merely queried the value when the search engine will find the songs anyway. --Richhoncho (talk) 19:03, 14 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
For avoided double redirects, it's because we can't predict which identifier someone searching for the song will use; "The Bidding" is an existing redirect, but what if someone doesn't know that and searches "The Bidding (song)" or "The Bidding (Tally Hall)"? I want to have both instances covered, because both are unambiguous and better than being taken to the search page. Scrooge200 (talk) 19:15, 14 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
So you are going to flood WP with double redirects on the offchance a searcher is sent to the page he wasn't looking for? Fails to use the very efficient search function? All did you look at the double redirect I pointed out, Ended With the Night (song) 1. "with" should not be capitalized and 2. You have named the correct redirect as Star Scat. How is that helping? --Richhoncho (talk) 19:28, 14 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Is there a policy or guideline against these? Redirects are cheap, and as for Ended With the Night (song), it is capitalized as such on the official upload with over 500k views, and the ADR is a simple mistake I forgot to fix, but will now. Not to mention that both The Bidding (song) and The Bidding (Tally Hall) have four views each and have only existed for a day, proving that there is a point in having both. Scrooge200 (talk) 19:51, 14 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Titles of works is one guideline of many. New article are patrolled, so 4/5 hits on the first day is low. For the rest, please yourself, you will find out, sooner or later, you are not contributing to WP.--Richhoncho (talk) 13:57, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Let's keep to the matter in hand, song titles, because yes there are times when redirects of different spellings or topic names are a benefit. However, go to the search engine and type "The Bidding" and you will see the main redirect, you will also see the unnecessary clutter you have created because you have already seen you redirect you created. You also need to be aware of [[WikiProject_Songs#Naming
Casual readers won't know what the naming hierarchy is. They might be searching just a song title because they want to know which band made it, or which album it's from; it's similar to how some snippets of iconic lyrics are redirects to help people find songs, like "Somebody once told me" and "Letting the days go by", which I have used in the past. Not to mention, searching more generic titles such as "The Bidding" will cause the search page to show articles like Bridge-O-Rama and Screen (bridge) before the proper album article, and "Never Meant to Know" brings up 1975 Australian constitutional crisis, Baby Geniuses, and John Kerr (governor-general). It gets worse with more obscure albums or titles that lead to disambiguations. Even if it's not necessary to create "The Whole World and You (song)" or "The Whole World and You (Tally Hall)", I still think there is a purpose in having "The Whole World and You" as a redirect. I am willing to come to a compromise on this. Scrooge200 (talk) 20:17, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If casual readers don't understand, then editors driving a coach and horses through WP guidelines is not going to help them, for instance you are paying no attention to Wikipedia:Article titles and Wikipedia:WikiProject Songs, which we are both presently ignoring at the moment.Let's keep to the matter in hand, song titles, because yes there are times when redirects of different spellings or topic names are a benefit. However, go to the search engine and type "The Bidding" and you will see the main redirect, you will also see the unnecessary clutter you have created because you have already seen the redirects you created. You also need to be aware the WP search engine is good enough to find The Bidding without any redirect - even for casual readers, but as I said, if you want to continue to waste your time, be my guest, just don't waste mine! Keep editing. --Richhoncho (talk) 08:22, 16 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
