Why have you removed Da Tweekaz?

Help with vandalized page

[edit]

Hi. I never contacted an administrator so I hope I′m doing it well. I would like to ask your help on the ″Loriga″ article - a small portuguese town. For several years, this page as been vandalized, in all its languages, just because of the flag. Now that that the flag has been approved, he keeps on manipulating the article in the EN-WP. I corrected the article and cleaned that dreadful link that lead to a non-sense page. I′m still working on getting all the right links and references for the article. I would like you to keep an eye on this article because I′m sure it will be vandalized again by the same person. Thanks for any information you might give me about this.

Kind regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by Septryya (talkcontribs) 00:01, August 7, 2019 (UTC)

@Septryya: I've applied pending changes protection to the Loriga article. Let me know if there are any more issues. -- Scott Burley (talk) 00:33, 7 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A couple days ago, you did a minor range block [1] rather than protect Suskityrannus. Doesn't seem to have taken, because they are back, curiously from the same range [2]. Can you give it another try please, and/or apply some semi? Cheers! --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 16:33, 8 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Elmidae: The rangeblock seems to have worked, they just went right back to it after the block expired. I've given them 2 weeks this time. -- Scott Burley (talk) 00:14, 9 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Here we go again :/ - different ISP now. I think protection still makes sense, unless you are up for repeated whack-a-molery... --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 13:36, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Administrators' newsletter – October 2019

[edit]

News and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2019).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a discussion, a new criterion for speedy category renaming was added: C2F: One eponymous article, which applies if the category contains only an eponymous article or media file, provided that the category has not otherwise been emptied shortly before the nomination. The default outcome is an upmerge to the parent categories.

Technical news

  • As previously noted, tighter password requirements for Administrators were put in place last year. Wikipedia should now alert you if your password is less than 10 characters long and thus too short.

Arbitration

Miscellaneous

  • The Community Tech team has been working on a system for temporarily watching pages, and welcomes feedback.

Sorry, but I really disagree with your close here. Even though the article was WP:HEY, this still clearly fails WP:NOTNEWS, which was pointed out by a couple delete !voters after its improvement. I haven't been following it, but I would have reiterated the fact it should be deleted. Just because an event gets covered doesn't mean it's suitable for inclusion, and WP:NOT controls over WP:GNG. Would you consider changing your close to a no consensus, so it can be more easily renominated in the future? Thanks! SportingFlyer T·C 00:45, 19 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Articles for deletion/David Stopps

[edit]

Please can you explain your rationale for deleting this article? On the talk page there was plenty of good reason to keep this page especially as other editors appeared to home in on, and misunderstand, certain points which were more than clarified. Thank you. Pineapplemike (talk) 07:33, 22 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Pineapplemike: The consensus of the deletion discussion was that he does not meet our notability standards, namely significant coverage by multiple independent reliable sources. These standards are applied especially strictly to articles about living people. I see from the talk page discussion that he has had a successful and prolific career, but unfortunately that is not enough by itself for inclusion in Wikipedia. -- Scott Burley (talk) 15:46, 22 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Scott. I'm keen for the article to be published so whilst I realise and accept the bar is set high, can you give me some specifics I can do to improve the article as while it might be subjective, and it's not a competition I know, there are other articles on music industry people who may ne considered less notable. That's not the issue though. The article, before deletion, was well sourced and referenced, so what extra would you need to meet the criteria? Many thanks Pineapplemike (talk) 19:47, 22 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Remove unreliable sources

[edit]

Hi. I removed a unreliable source AnsweringIslam.org. Also, Sam Shamoun is a Christian missionary apologist with no academic background whatsoever and has no scholarship on Islam, Also he is biased as well since he is a Christian missionary apologist, so therefore one cannot use him as a source or his non-notable website which is full of nonsense. 77.16.209.181 (talk) 22:04, 22 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have to agree with the anon user here. I was about to revert that edit myself but then I did some investigation. I tried to find evidence that Sam Shamoun is notable in any way and failed. I tried to find if his website answeringislam.org is notable in any way, and failed. Therefore the opinions he publishes are not really worth citing on Wikipedia. ~Anachronist (talk) 22:29, 22 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, looks like I was too hasty on that revert. Sorry about that. I see you've already fixed it. -- Scott Burley (talk) 22:37, 22 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I've reverted other of the anon's edits, but that edit was OK. ~Anachronist (talk) 22:39, 22 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. There is another guy named David Wood as well, he is a Christian missionary apologist. I dont think they should be used as a source. There are some that use wikiislam.org as well, which is a unreliable source. Also some use jihadwatch.org by the anti-Muslim conspiracy theorist Robert Spencer. Is it okay if I remove these unreliable sources? 77.16.209.181 (talk) 22:48, 22 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the unreliable sources. 77.16.209.181 (talk) 23:02, 22 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Air Canada Flight 018 Stowaway Incident. Because you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedily deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review.

ArbCom 2019 election voter message

[edit]
Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:03, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Administrators' newsletter – February 2020

[edit]

News and updates for administrators from the past month (January 2020).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, partial blocks are now enabled on the English Wikipedia. This functionality allows administrators to block users from editing specific pages or namespaces rather than the entire site. A draft policy is being workshopped at Wikipedia:Partial blocks.
  • The request for comment seeking the community's sentiment for a binding desysop procedure closed with wide-spread support for an alternative desysoping procedure based on community input. No proposed process received consensus.

Technical news

  • Twinkle now supports partial blocking. There is a small checkbox that toggles the "partial" status for both blocks and templating. There is currently one template: {{uw-pblock}}.
  • When trying to move a page, if the target title already exists then a warning message is shown. The warning message will now include a link to the target title. [3]

Arbitration

  • Following a recent arbitration case, the Arbitration Committee reminded administrators that checkuser and oversight blocks must not be reversed or modified without prior consultation with the checkuser or oversighter who placed the block, the respective functionary team, or the Arbitration Committee.

Administrators' newsletter – March 2020

[edit]

News and updates for administrators from the past month (February 2020).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, the blocking policy was changed to state that sysops must not undo or alter CheckUser or Oversight blocks, rather than should not.
  • A request for comment confirmed that sandboxes of established but inactive editors may not be blanked due solely to inactivity.

Technical news

  • Following a discussion, Twinkle's default CSD behavior will soon change, most likely this week. After the change, Twinkle will default to "tagging mode" if there is no CSD tag present, and default to "deletion mode" if there is a CSD tag present. You will be able to always default to "deletion mode" (the current behavior) using your Twinkle preferences.

Hello. I have notice that you edit many times Template:Cabinet of Donald Trump timeline. I try to make one in Greek Wikipedia el:Πρότυπο:Υπουργικό Συμβούλιο Αρχιεπισκόπου Μακαρίου Γ΄ 1968. I did it like I want. But I have two questions:

a) Why there is .16 after each year?

b) Why there is no title.

Thanks if you have the answers. Thanks and apologize if I was annoying. Xaris333 (talk) 13:30, 3 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Xaris333:
a) Change ScaleMajor to start:01/01/1969
b) You have to manually tell it where to put the title. Right now it's off the screen. Try pos:(260,340)

Articles for Creation: List of reviewers by subject notice

[edit]

Hi Scott Burley, you are receiving this notice because you are listed as an active Articles for Creation reviewer.

Recently a list of reviewers by area of expertise was created. This notice is being sent out to alert you to the existence of that list, and to encourage you to add your name to it. If you or other reviewers come across articles in the queue where an acceptance/decline hinges on specialist knowledge, this list should serve to facilitate contact with a fellow reviewer.

To end on a positive note, the backlog has dropped below 1,500, so thanks for all of the hard work some of you have been putting into the AfC process!

Sent to all Articles for Creation reviewers as a one-time notice. To opt-out of all massmessage mailings, you may add Category:Wikipedians who opt out of message delivery to your user talk page. Regards, Sam-2727 (talk)

  • An RfC is open to discuss the next steps following a trial which automatically applied pending changes to TFAs.

Technical news

  • IP addresses of unregistered users are to be hidden from everyone. There is a rough draft of how IP addresses may be shown to users who need to see them. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.
