Administrators' newsletter – April 2021
[edit]News and updates for administrators from the past month (March 2021).
- Alexandria • Happyme22 • RexxS
- Following a request for comment, F7 (invalid fair-use claim) subcriterion a has been deprecated; it covered immediate deletion of non-free media with invalid fair-use tags.
- Following a request for comment, page movers were granted the
delete-redirect
userright, which allows moving a page over a single-revision redirect, regardless of that redirect's target.
- When you move a page that many editors have on their watchlist the history can be split and it might also not be possible to move it again for a while. This is because of a job queue problem. (T278350)
- Code to support some very old web browsers is being removed. This could cause issues in those browsers. (T277803)
- A community consultation on the Arbitration Committee discretionary sanctions procedure is open until April 25.
Schwede66, a new hook has been proposed, as you requested in your review. Please return to the DYK nomination as soon as possible to continue your review. If you don't think you'll be able to, please let me know, and I'll try to find a new reviewer. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 20:20, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
Blocked IP abusing their talk page
[edit]Hello, sorry to bother you. IP 2600:387:2:805:0:0:0:83 (talk · contribs · WHOIS), who is currently blocked, is repeatedly abusing their talk page. Can you perhaps take a look? --Ashleyyoursmile! 20:33, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
- Looks like talk page access has already been removed. Schwede66 20:34, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
- That's great. Thank you for taking a look. Ashleyyoursmile! 20:38, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
"DMITRENKO, Grigory" listed at Redirects for discussion
[edit]A discussion is taking place to address the redirect DMITRENKO, Grigory. The discussion will occur at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2021 April 10#DMITRENKO, Grigory until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. UnitedStatesian (talk) 20:02, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks. Have commented there. Schwede66 19:35, 16 April 2021 (UTC)
Hi, re my edit on Nancy Wilson. If you don't like the format then change it rather than deleting. So-called gate-keepers of Wiki should not delete good information given in good faith by people who know what they are doing. Regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by Printtype (talk • contribs) 22:58, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Printtype: you refer to this revert. Have you seen what my edit summary says? I appreciate it’s hard to get started but there isn’t an easy way around it. If you add content to an article, you also need to add your source to the article. I sympathise that referencing is tricky and for that reason, I invited you to post on the article’s talk page if you need a hand. Gate-keeping is to some extent necessary as without it, Wikipedia content would be a useless mess of stuff where you would not know what can be trusted and what is just made up. Interface administrator changes
- Following an RfC, consensus was found that third party appeals are allowed but discouraged.

- The user group

. This is for technical reasons. You can comment at T112147 if you have objections.
- The user group
- The community consultation on the Arbitration Committee discretionary sanctions procedure was closed, and an initial draft based on feedback from the now closed consultation is expected to be released in early June to early July for community review.

Page move of Erik Ole Bye
[edit]Please see the discussion thread at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Opera#Problematic page move of baritone Erik Ole Bye moved to Erik Bye (rower).4meter4 (talk) 20:35, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
- You have pinged me there so there is no need to leave a further note here. Schwede66 20:39, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
Frederick Kelly
[edit]You recently moved this from Frederick Septimus Kelly to Frederick Kelly (rower), however per the article he is equally known for his musical career. Would you object to moving back to the original title? Ivar the Boneful (talk) 01:09, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Ivar the Boneful: I've moved the article to its common name. There were previously two articles (one for the rower and one for the musician) and those got merged at some point; that's where the disambiguator comes from. If he's better known as a musician or as a composer, then it would be appropriate that the article gets moved to whatever is most appropriate. I don't know whether "musician" or "composer" or something else would be best as a disambiguator. Feel free to make a call on it and move it as you see fit. Schwede66 01:43, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Anthony Appleyard: You said in your move edit summary: "the mover does not object to this being moved back". The above could certainly have been worded better (or with less ambiguity) but what I was trying to say is that I do not mind a different disambiguator being used, whilst "Frederick Kelly" appears to be the correct common name. Subhana Barzaghi
[edit]Hey, I was looking at your userpage COI declaration and Subhana Barzaghi caught my eye. She seems like an interesting article subject, and while you wouldn't be able to write her article yourself, I felt I could ask you if you know of any good sources to use in such an article. I found some passing coverage, but not quite anything I'd call notable, and I'm interested in knowing if you know of anything more. Vaticidalprophet 18:31, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
- User:Vaticidalprophet Thanks for your enquiry. She’s notable beyond doubt as she’s been involved in (and leading) some high profile campaigns but I suspect that much of that would be prior to newspapers being online. Have a look on Trove what you can see. She will have been written about in books but as I know her through my wife, it’s not something I have ever read. I’ll ask my wife if she’s aware of any sources. Schwede66 18:39, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
- User:Vaticidalprophet, sorry, this slipped off my radar. I've been in touch with Subhana. To record what's been said, I've created a talk page in your user space at User:Vaticidalprophet/Talk:Subhana Barzaghi. Let us have further discussions there, please, to keep it in one place. Werner Grieshofer
[edit]Hi Schwede66 - hope you are well. I was wondering if you could help out at Talk:Werner Grieshofer, an Austrian rower who competed at the 1972 Summer Olympics. There is a question about his DOB. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 09:32, 31 May 2021 (UTC)

- Consensus was reached to deprecate Wikipedia:Editor assistance.
- Following a Request for Comment the Book namespace was deprecated.
- Wikimedia previously used the IRC network Freenode. However, due to changes over who controlled the network with reports of a forceful takeover by several ex-staff members, the Wikimedia IRC Group Contacts decided to move to the new Libera Chat network. It has been reported that Wikimedia related channels on Freenode have been forcibly taken over if they pointed members to Libera. There is a migration guide and Wikimedia discussions about this.
- After a Clarification request, the Arbitration Committee modified Remedy 5 of the Antisemitism in Poland case. This means sourcing expectations are a discretionary sanction instead of being present on all articles. It also details using the talk page or the Reliable Sources Noticeboard to discuss disputed sources.
Eruption (film)
[edit]Good afternoon! I see that you deproded Eruption (film), citing a memory of media coverage. Before I proded it, I did a cursory search and did not find any significant coverage by independent sources. That may be due to my location or the time that has passed. Could you possibly take a look for some evidence of this coverage? Thanks! BOVINEBOY2008 18:03, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Bovineboy2008: Good morning! Sure, I'll take a look. But 2010 will be difficult; of the media outlets, I think it is just The New Zealand Herald that's online that far back. Schwede66 19:09, 9 June 2021 (UTC)

What Links Here
[edit]Hi! Check out the "What links here" page for Eddie Dunn. I was working on updating the page and changing the links as I moved a page that was originally called "Eddie Dunn", but cannot seem to delist many of the pages listed in the "What links here" page. I believe it has something to do with navboxes and links not actually visible on the page itself, but I cannot find the source. Is there any chance you can check for yourself and let me know? Thanks. Debartolo2917 (talk) 01:38, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Debartolo2917: Looking right now, nothing from mainspace links to that dab page. Has something changed since you last looked? Schwede66 03:04, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
- Just looked and all is good. I guess it just needed to update. Thanks! Debartolo2917 (talk) 02:35, 12 June 2021 (UTC)
page not for deletion
[edit]Hello I saw you nominated a page I created for an actor on the hit tv show Shadow and Bone for deletion. May I ask you to kindly remove the deletion consideration notice. I was not paid to create the page, and if you’ll take a moment to look at my other edits you’ll see I’m legit. Thanks Grapepinky (talk) 02:52, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
- Jesse Badger page Grapepinky (talk) 02:53, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
- Ok, I've had a look at the other page that you've started (Bianca Spender) and that does not come across as promotional. You've also picked a person who is obviously notable. So let's assume that you are legit but that still doesn't make Badger notable. Schwede66 11:18, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
- Given that you've removed the PROD, the article is now at AfD. Please provide your arguments there, Grapepinky. Schwede66 03:19, 17 June 2021 (UTC)
Page Review
[edit]Hello. Thanks for reviewing my new article. I was given the autopatrolled and new page reviewer right but one of my pages I created a while a go I am still unable to approve. Would you be able to do it if you can? The page is found here I would like it to show up on a Google search and as I've only just been given autopatrolled right I don't think it will apply to this page as I created it a while ago. Could you mark it as reviewed for me please? Thanks. Inexpiable (talk) 07:14, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
- You are right; autopatrolled will only work for new articles going forward. This one has already been reviewed. Schwede66 09:00, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
- On the new pages feed it still says unreviewed though? And it's not showing up in Google. Inexpiable (talk) 13:59, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
- Never mind someone reviewed it for me. Thank you for reviewing my other page though. Inexpiable (talk) 19:33, 14 June 2021 (UTC)

Article Review
[edit]Hi there, I notice that you are extremely active on Wikipedia NZ articles. Would you be so kind to review the Christchurch suburb of Wigram. I have put a lot of effort over the last several weeks making it as complete as I can and I would appreciate your input into the article, any edits/reviews etc, or if you could advise me of anything which you think should be changed? I would love to get this reviewed by someone like yourself.
Thanks for all your contributions to Wikipedia!
StraightTalkNZ (talk) 13:01, 20 June 2021 (UTC)
- Sure; no problems. I'll take a look, StraightTalkNZ. If there are issues or I have suggestions, I will post on the article's talk page; not here. Schwede66 20:53, 20 June 2021 (UTC)
- Sorry for that. I'm sure it'll get better from here on in. Schwede66 21:20, 20 June 2021 (UTC)
Thanks Schwede66 I appreciate your input. I have replied back on the Wigram talk page, and added arguments against the Mainfreight and Motorway picture. I do agree with your statement regarding Skellerup and Wigram School and I will go down and take photos of them. I could do the same (from the road, not a drone) for the Mainfreight site as well. However it is genuinely not possible to replicate the picture without illegally taking a drone near the Motorway for the other picture. Are you able to please allow that single one to be allowed based on the fact that this is genuinely not fair and reasonable for someone to break the law to replicate a similair angle that is the only way to visually describe to a reader as to how the intricate motorway system and over bridges align in this instance?
Thanks again! StraightTalkNZ (talk) 00:59, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
Hey there!
[edit]Question: Have you been looking through some of the articles I have listed at my user page? I don't have a problem with it, I was just wondering.. versacespaceleave a message! 21:20, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
- "I don't have a problem with it" – could you please let me know what that refers to, User:VersaceSpace? Schwede66 21:22, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
- Hi! That part was meant to clarify that I don't have an issue with you looking through "my" (they're not really mine) articles, and to eliminate any concern that that was the reason why I was asking. versacespaceleave a message! 21:25, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
- @VersaceSpace: Well, you've put a request up for autopatrolled and that usually means that an admin will come along and look through your contributions. Schwede66 21:30, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
- Ok! Well in that case, thank you for taking the time to do so. I hope I didn't come off as rude or anything. versacespaceleave a message! 21:34, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
