[edit]I've contested the deletion as the content wasn't hopelessly promotional and there is a clear claim of importance, so it does not qualify for A7 either. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 06:21, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

CSD
[edit]I messed up a good number of speedy taggings when I first started too. Don't get discouraged! Here's my quick and dirty guide to NPP and CSD:
- "Claim of importance" in A7 is not the same as notability. Even the slightest credible claim of importance disqualifies an article for A7
- Be careful with A1 and A3 when doing new page patrol. People will sometimes create the article but not type any content, or just leave an infobox, etc. I tend to wait until they're at least an hour old. By that time they'll be tagged by someone else for some other reason, or they'll be OK, or they'll be a clear A1 or A3. It's not worth biting the newbies
- Schools and books are rarely eligible for any speedy tags - exceptions are for example blatant cases where G11 or G12 would apply
- G1 is very rarely applicable and should be used very sparingly. And G1 and A1 never apply to articles that are in a language other than English (If you do find something that is not in English, don't speedy it. Tag it for listing at WP:PNT even if you understand it and you'd tag it as A7 or anything else without hesitation if it were in English. Use the {{not english}} option in Twinkle for that)
- Clear G10 and G12s trump everything else
Finally, when in doubt, the golden rule is Leave it for the next patroller. Keep articles you're not sure about in your watchlist to see how they are handled and you'll learn quickly how to handle the edge cases. Best of luck! §FreeRangeFrogcroak 17:25, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

I deleted it as a test page, rather than as spam. The link was broken, and it was edited repeatedly in small ways, indicating this might be a test page. Universities are automatically notable. Bearian (talk) 19:05, 27 March 2014 (UTC)

Speedy Deletion of Custom Combat Trucks
[edit]Speedy Deletion of Custom Combat Trucks Page nominated for speedy deletion. Given continued time to update page, (without toddlers running around and screaming and "helping" write the entry) the significance would have become clear. This was my first entry and I was trying to get the hang of the process. Custom Combat Trucks is very important in the encyclopedic content section. Military vehicles are often laid to waste or purchased and never taken care of. There is now a source that provides military vehicles a second chance to support the country. There are several pages about hiring veterans and this is similar. The mission of Custom Combat Trucks spans over several different pages (veterans, government, military education, monster trucks, repurposing, etc.) Speedy deletion within the timeframe (about an hour) was simply not in the spirit of what this site is about. An hour for revisions
[edit]An hour may be significant time for revisions for users who sit around with nothing else to do on a Saturday. However, I have to feed two toddlers, change diapers, clean up after them, etc. I also have a wife who is sick in bed and her grandma that we are taking care of. I appreciate your evaluation of my time, but an hour is not very much time. I felt the need to get the article on base and add more purpose to it as the week progressed. Now I don't even know how I can access what I already posted. I must have misunderstood that this site wanted a variety of articles from across the spectrum. I have requested that the article be reinstated for a week to give me time to fully establish the article and understand how to use the site. Pronunciation of New Hampshire
[edit]How is it helpful to non-Americans? I've never set foot in the US, but I know how to pronounce both 'new' and 'Hampshire'. It's not the purpose of Help:IPA for English to represent dialectal variation in common words. Transcriptions are standard to articles where the pronunciation is not obvious -- this one's is. — lfdder 02:33, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
- Obviously "new" is not an issue, but I suppose I can see where one could mispronounce Hampshire. I know it often is spoken with an 'f' instead of a 'p' like Hamfshire, and those unfamiliar with this somewhat small state might consider the standard, British pronunciation of 'shire'. - Well, Brits who say Hampshire like Hamp-"shear" would still pronounce New Hampshire that way, I imagine. I mean, it's useful to know they're pronounced slightly differently in BrE and AmE, but we're not gonna go about adding transcriptions to every US -shire article's name that's otherwise pronounced the same. I've never heard of "Hamfshire" -- I'd imagine it's casual and/or marginal. — lfdder 03:13, 30 April 2014 (UTC)

Cite Errors littering Alabama towns
[edit]Many of the Alabama town pages where you "Updated demographics for 2010" are sporting cite errors as a result of your edit.
Apparently, (which is not to say this is how it actually happened, but is a probable cause) you copied a previous reference tag wherein a reference name was used. Then, one of the parameters—specifically the accessdate—was changed but not the reference name (ref name). Therein lies the problem.
If you are going to copy and paste a reference tag which already has a reference name defined, and change the definition, then you need to change the ref name to something else. Let's use Rehobeth, Alabama as an example:
It appears you copied the reference tag for the 2000 Census, which was defined as ref name=GR2, and merely changed the access date parameter. This creates a conflict evoking the cite error visible in big, bold, red letters in the References section. The solution is quite simple—change the reference name as well. In this case making ref name equal "GR3" will fix the problem. Keep in mind that you will have to do this, or something similar, to all the pages where you used the copy/paste methodology; 30+ pages that I counted just in Alabama. About edit on page: Kentucky
[edit]Hello, I am the one who listed every city and town of Kentucky on the commonwealth’s Wikipedia article. I put it under subsection “cities and towns,” which had nothing in it to begin with, so I decided to list every city and town in the commonwealth, and even added the citation to where I got the information. I do not understand how you thought of my contribution as “disruptive and not helpful.” There is no point in having a subsection if it is just empty, so I recommend to either allow the edit, or just remove the subsection all together as there is no meaningful purpose for it of nothing is there. I just want to contribute to wikipedia, and help in every way I can, and not want to do anything that could make me be labelled as “disruptive and not helpful.”

- Hi! I didn't meant to be discouraging at all, but the edit was disruptive to the page because it broke the page's format and flow. It stretched the page out a lot, and the main article doesn't need a list of every city. The section does have some content with a list of the biggest cities. A full list isn't a good idea in that article since it'll just take up a lot of space. There is an article, List of cities in Kentucky, which seems to do the job.
