Municipality -> Commune
Hello, I noticed you've been replacing the word Municipality with Commune on multiple pages. What's your rationale for that? I'm slightly annoyed by it as municipality is clear English, whilst commune, in the sense of municipality, is a loan word and not its primary meaning. --Midas02 (talk) 04:25, 3 April 2016 (UTC)
- Yes Midas02, precisely because the country of Haiti does not have "municipalities;" they are called communes. Also notice the fact that this change I am making pertains only to Haiti (or France). Check every French article, and you will see that I am merely being consistent. There is also a main article for the commune. Cheers. Savvyjack23 (talk) 04:27, 3 April 2016 (UTC)
- See Paris for example. It boasts that it is a commune and its infobox states the same variables being "{{Infobox French commune..." Savvyjack23 (talk) 04:29, 3 April 2016 (UTC)
- Oh by the way, I almost never make this change pertaining to France. Usually it is already worded as such. Savvyjack23 (talk) 04:32, 3 April 2016 (UTC)
- Yes, but there's a difference here. When you have to define the exact status of such and such municipality, like in an infobox, you need to use the language of the country of origin (commune, gmina, Gemeinde, ...). There's no other way. But in a plain text, municipality reads well, whilst commune doesn't and supposes that the reader knows what it is. In this respect, articles on French topics aren't a reference as they are heavily edited by French users introducing bad English and alien terms.
- Is there a guideline on what kind of words/language to use in articles? --Midas02 (talk) 04:44, 3 April 2016 (UTC)
- Fair enough Midas02, but if that's the case we are talking about precisely 105,000+ French articles, those that are at least listed under its project (here). While it may read better (depending on whose point of view), perhaps this can be a step towards refining its main article. There is a guideline to use the English language wherever possible, however, "commune" is in fact an English word (or a "common word" at least) deriving from Latin. The same could be said for "boroughs," or "parishes" which not all administrative divisions use but aren't simply translated into something that is most common to the everyday reader. Savvyjack23 (talk) 04:56, 3 April 2016 (UTC)
- A commune is an administrative division of Haiti. See List of communes of Haiti. How would you translate a French Canton, or an Arrondissement (even though Google translates it as "districts;" but apparently this is not so accurate.), or a department? To say a department is a state or something familiar strays more towards violating WP:POV. Savvyjack23 (talk) 05:02, 3 April 2016 (UTC)

Wednesday April 13, 7pm: WikiWednesday Salon NYC and Mini-Video Opportunity | |
---|---|
You are invited to join the Wikimedia NYC community for our monthly "WikiWednesday" evening salon (7-9pm) and knowledge-sharing workshop at Babycastles gallery by 14th Street / Union Square in Manhattan. Special this month, a Mini-Video opportunity for individuals to share their Wikipedia experiences (during pre-meeting, 6-7pm, and in side-office during regular meetup). A videographer will be present to record 1-3 minute Mini-Videos of folks informally speaking, sharing anything about their Wikipedia-related projects, whether an edit-a-thon they joined, an article they edited, or a class project they were a part of, etc. We will also follow up on plans for recent (Art+Feminism!) and upcoming edit-a-thons, and other outreach activities. We welcome the participation of our friends from the Free Culture movement and from all educational and cultural institutions interested in developing free knowledge projects. We will also place our chapter's votes for the global Wikimedia Foundation board. After the main meeting, pizza/chicken/vegetables and refreshments and video games in the gallery!
We especially encourage folks to add your 5-minute lightning talks to our roster, and otherwise join in the "open space" experience! Newcomers are very welcome! Bring your friends and colleagues! --Pharos (talk) 14:19, 6 April 2016 (UTC) |

Stubs
Why do you believe that the article is a stub? There's no absolute standard, but there are several rules of thumb, and it exceeds all of them significantly:
- A minimum of ten sentences – it has about 40.
- 500+ words – it has about 850.
- 1,500 characters of text – it has about 5,600.
I think you should consider updating the assessment to accurately reflect the size and development of the article. In case you haven't read it before, the definition of start-class is here: Wikipedia:Start-Class. WhatamIdoing (talk) 06:31, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
- Simple WhatamIdoing, it was a mistake after I had to revert your unexplained Haiti-project removal. Please do not do that. Thanks. Savvyjack23 (talk) 06:34, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of Alessandro Campoy
The article Alessandro Campoy has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Fails WP:GNG and WP:NFOOTBALL
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. GiantSnowman 20:37, 18 April 2016 (UTC)
RexxS, thanks for your input. I've noticed that you have added an edit war warning onto my talk page but haven't yet done so for Montanabw. I trust you you will remain neutral in this matter and do the same. Savvyjack23 (talk) 17:18, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
Possible stub articles in Haitian related to New York City
Thank you for helping out in the Haitian Wikipedia!
Are you interested in writing some stubs in Haitian related to New York City? If so I can send you a list of possible articles. Making these stubs may attract New York-resident Haitians to HTwiki. WhisperToMe (talk) 17:16, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
Yes please WhisperToMe, that would be awesome. Thanks Savvyjack23 (talk) 17:19, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
- Okay! Here is my list:
- Haitian neighborhoods:
- Ones to expand:
- ht:Depatman Edikasyon vil Nouyòk (it has a website in Creole in case you need to cite any sources. It may be good to cite both the original English and the Creole translations)
If I find any NYC high schools with significant Haitian populations (as in they put out documents in Creole) I will list those too :)
BTW if you are interested you may create articles on major U.S. airlines serving Haiti (particularly the U.S. airlines that fly between Port au Prince and New York City but I've included others if you're interested)
If you're not interested in the airlines I can suggest them to another Haitian editor WhisperToMe (talk) 17:39, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
Wikipedya
I believe there is currently no stewardship at all on Wikipedya an kreyòl and I think I’d like to nominate you to admin if you’re interested. Thoughts? —LLarson (said & done) 22:49, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
I gave it some thought LLarson, and I whole-heartedly accept your nomination. Thank you . Savvyjack23 (talk) 18:04, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- Mèsi anpil ! I’ll add a notice to the thread on Wikipedya:Kafe. If you haven’t done so already, you may wish to enable Enhanced notifications to make sure you’re notified of activity there, even when you’re here.
- Finally, you may wish to add content to you’re user page there (or take the same advice WhatamIdoing gave me: add a user page at meta (meta:User:Savvyjack23 for you), which automagically propagates a user page to all projects where you haven’t already created one. Honè ak respè ! —LLarson (said & done) 19:11, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- @Savvyjack23: Just wanted to give you a heads up that there’s support for your nomination and that we’re just waiting for you to add an email address to your account before we take the request to the Stewards at Meta (an email address is also super helpful for the option to be notified when your name’s mentioned). Once you add your address, you can tweak that option isit and here. If you haven’t done so already, you may also wish to enable enhanced notifications, so you can receive notifications from other Wikis here. Thank you, and congrats! —LLarson (said & done) 14:09, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

Constantin Henriquez and Francisco Henríquez de Zubiría
Hello,
Nobody has the name Constantin Henriquez de Zubiera. Constantin Henriquez de Zubiera is a name created by confusion between two names Constantin Henriquez and Francisco Henríquez de Zubiría. Result of searchs of ISOH. The name on Sports-Reference was corrected : The page Constantin Henriquez de Zubiera had destroyed for the creation of the page Constantin Henriquez : [1]. Can you cancel your last modifications on Constantin Henriquez, please ?
GabrieL (talk) 08:33, 30 May 2016 (UTC)
Hi GabrieL. I will gladly revert all my edits. However, I need a source that says this is not his name. We need proof that Sports-Reference was corrected etc. Once satisfied, this change will be made. Savvyjack23 (talk) 08:36, 30 May 2016 (UTC)
- Source that says this is not his name : (in Spanish) [2] ;-) GabrieL (talk) 08:41, 30 May 2016 (UTC) Another source in romanian : [3] at the end of the text. His brother is Alphonse Henriquez and his grand son is Robert Henriquez and his ancestor Isaac Henriques (with S final). No "de Zubiera" in the family. The other sources were writed after French article of Wikipedia with mention of this confusion. GabrieL (talk) 08:48, 30 May 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks. I actually came across this website before. Since, it is a blog we cannot use it as a reference. So I will analyze the citations it uses. I will also access the Romanian website. Please stand-by. (I may return to this in 6-8 hours; it is 4:51AM over here =/ )Savvyjack23 (talk) 08:51, 30 May 2016 (UTC)
- Yes, it's a blog but it's Fernando Arrechea Rivas' blog. Fernando Arrechea Rivas is an Olympic historian and hispanic soccer historian member of the International Society of Olympic Historians. In the sources mentioned by Arrechea, the oldest occurrence with "Constantin Henriquez de Zubiera" is the German book Olympische Spiele 1900 in Paris in 1995 but this book quotes "Constantin Henriquez de Zubiera" in tug of war instead of Francisco Henríquez de Zubiría. And for old results in Olympic Games (database and history), Sports-References is the source the most used in Wikipedia. GabrieL (talk) 09:29, 30 May 2016 (UTC) Hello, in November 1932, Constantin Henriquez published with this name a book on Haïti (Nos Villes et nos Bourgades : Époque de leur fondation. Désignation de leurs habitants. Lieux historiques et pittoresques) ([4], [5]). In June 1932, Le Nouvelliste mentionned his name (second column), it's only Constantin Henriquez ([6]). GabrieL (talk) 08:17, 31 May 2016 (UTC) Bonjour Savvyjack23, Now, can you or can I revert your last modifications with "edit summary" a reference to this talk ? GabrieL (talk) 07:38, 1 June 2016 (UTC)
- In light of this new information, I think it is imperative that this article reads "Constantin Henriquez" and can hopefully be used as a benchmark to amend a careless mistake made in history and finally giving credit for Francisco Henríquez de Zubiría's silver medal feat in the Olympics during the same year. Thank you for your patience and for your diligent service in acquiring all these sources GabrieL.
P.S. Can I have you permission to copy this discussion to Constantin Henriquez's talk page to make sure that other editors do not make the same mistake? Cordialement. Savvyjack23 (talk) 21:16, 2 June 2016 (UTC)
- Yes, of course. Thanks for all. GabrieL (talk) 09:16, 3 June 2016 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Yassin Fortune
The article Yassin Fortune has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Subject is a young footballer who has not yet played in a fully professional league or at senior international level, so fails the sport-specific notability guideline, and about whom there's no evidence of enough non-routine independent significant coverage to satisfy the general notability guideline.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Struway2 (talk) 12:26, 2 July 2016 (UTC)
Nomination of Yassin Fortune for deletion
A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Yassin Fortune is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Yassin Fortune until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Struway2 (talk) 08:22, 3 July 2016 (UTC)

Please stop adding unsourced content, as you did to 2015 Copa América. This contravenes Wikipedia's policy on verifiability. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Two editors have requested that a source be provided, specifically for the ranking positions in the first column and the points totals in the last. Per WP:BURDEN, the correct way to deal with content that has been removed having been challenged as lacking a source is to provide a source, not to simply add back and say "take it to the talk page". Block evader
For what it's worth, the person at 2015 Copa América is editing anonymously, but from the same location. The IPV6 address in question, 2003:5F:3E57:242C:24B8:8A61:4CEF:4F74, is composed of two major parts, the first half containing prefix and subnet ID, the second half identifying the specific computer. In this case, 2003:5F:3E57:242C identifies his location, in Berlin, the second half, 24B8:8A61:4CEF:4F74, identifies his computer. That's usually based on the MAC address of the computer, but it can be overridden - such as by running a virtual machine, in which case it will be assigned randomly. If you take this back to WP:ANI, it's probably worth asking for a range block on the entire prefix and subnet ID. See IPv6_address#Unicast_and_anycast_address_format. Regards, Tarl N. Non-free rationale for File:Cola Lacaye bottle.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Cola Lacaye bottle.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Latin American 10,000 Challenge invite
Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Argentina etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Latin American content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 350 articles in just six days. If you would like to see this happening for Latin America, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Latin America, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thankyou. Russell Wilson
I reverted several of your edits on Russell Wilson because I felt they were unencyclopedic and extraneous in nature. The background section includes the most relevant portions pertaining to Wilson's ancestors from the Richmond Forum event. Describing who kings were or who they were related to is information that is readily available in the articles for those specific people. aqwfyj Talk/Contribs 04:07, 30 October 2016 (UTC)
- Aqwfyj, your point is noted, however, who are we to determine was is considered relevant? The point of an encyclopia is to further improve upon it and to update accordingly with what we believe to be fact. In Russell Wilson's case, these lineages are not only being discussed at this forum but in sports articles alike as you can see a la Washington Post and among others. If it did not relate to him, there wouldn't be any articles with his name attached to them. It is important to name who these people are in this article, as well as titles briefly. We aren't going on about who Charlemagne concurred etc. I just do not see a reason to pick and choose what we should add from said articles; to do so is a bias determination and hinders the growth of an article. WikiProject Good Articles's 2016-2017 GA Cup
Greetings, all! We would like to announce the start of the 4th GA Cup, a competition that seeks to encourage the reviewing of Good article nominations! Thus far, there have been three GA Cups, which were successful in reaching our goals of significantly reducing the traditionally long queue at GAN, so we're doing it again. Currently, there are over 400 nominations listed. We hope that we can again make an impact this time. The 4th GA Cup will begin on November 1, 2016. Four rounds are currently scheduled (which will bring the competition to a close on February 28, 2017), but this may change based on participant numbers. We may take a break in December for the holidays, depending on the results of a poll of our participants taken shortly after the competition begins. The sign-up and submissions process will remain the same, as will the scoring. Sign-ups for the upcoming competition are currently open and will close on November 14, 2016. Everyone is welcome to join; new and old editors, so sign-up now! If you have any questions, take a look at the FAQ page and/or contact one of the judges. Cheers from 3family6, Figureskatingfan, Jaguar, MrWooHoo, and Zwerg Nase. We apologize for the delay in sending out this message until after the competition has started. Thank you to Krishna Chaitanya Velaga for aiding in getting this message out. To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletters, please add or remove your name to our mailing list. If you are a participant, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

Association des Industries d'Haïti
Hi SavvyJack23! Our paths have crossed recently at Le Nouvelliste (which is an article that could definitely be developed more!) and at Haiti-US relations. I haven't been able to make any progress on that page during the election, though I expect afterwards I'll be able to put together some elements I've scattered on talk pages in Clinton space and in a couple Haitian space articles. My feel is that there is no point moving forward on that article until HRC is anointed queen. ^^ (That said, Mark Bassett's comment is right on, on the Haiti-US relations page, it was only a collection of facts as first presented.)
I'm wondering if you could take a quick look at Draft:Association of Haitian Industries and let me know if you have any special expertise / knowledge on this, or any suggestions for its improvement. Hope our paths will cross in future on some Haitian articles! SashiRolls (talk) 04:08, 5 November 2016 (UTC)
- Happy to cross paths again SashiRolls! I will continue to help monitor these pages accordingly. Will take a deeper look into the Haiti-related pages you are currently working on (especially ones in relation the US) and gladly share my insights, praise or concerns with you!
- However, unlike Queen Elizabeth, Victoria and the ones before them of the English world that bestowed upon us the awesomeness of its language (among other things), IMO...I do not think HRC is a queen worth saving. Savvyjack23 (talk) 05:00, 9 November 2016 (UTC)

Saturday December 3: Contemporary Chinese Art Edit-a-thon @ Guggenheim | |
---|---|
On Saturday December 3, 2016, in conjunction with a global campaign, the Guggenheim will host its fifth Wikipedia edit-a-thon—or, #guggathon—to enhance Wikipedia's coverage of modern and contemporary artists from Greater China. The event will cap off Wikipedia Asian Month, an online campaign dedicated to augmenting Asian content on Wikipedia throughout November. New and experienced editors are welcome. The event will include a training session for participants who are new to Wikipedia, and Wikipedia specialists will be on hand to provide basic instruction and editing support. Editors are invited to view the exhibition Tales of Our Time following the event. The Guggenheim aims to raise awareness of the artists featured in the Tales of Our Time exhibition supported by The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Chinese Art Initiative, and build on the model of campaigns like the Wikipedia Edit-a-thon at the Guggenheim: Women in Architecture, Wikipedia Edit-a-thon at the Guggenheim: Contemporary Art of the Middle East and North Africa, and Art+Feminism.

WikiCup December newsletter: WikiCup 2017
On 1 January 2017, WikiCup 2017 (the 10th Annual WikiCup) will begin. This year we are trying something a little different – monetary prizes.
For the WC2017 the prizes will be as follows (amounts are based in US$ and will be awarded in the form of an online Amazon gift certificate):
- First place – $200
- Second & Third place – $50 each
- Category prizes – $25 per category (which will be limited to FA, FL, FP, GA, and DYK for 2017). Winning a category prize does not require making it to the final round.
Note: Monetary prizes are a one-year experiment for 2017 and may or may not be continued in the future. In order to be eligible to receive any of the prizes above, the competing Wikipedia account must have a valid/active email address.
After two years as a WikiCup judge, Figureskatingfan is stepping down. We thank her for her contributions as a WikiCup judge. We are pleased to announce that our newest judge is two-time WikiCup champion Cwmhiraeth.
The judges for the 2017 WikiCup are Godot13 (talk · contribs · email), Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), and Sturmvogel 66 (talk · contribs · email).
