Declaring that I've written my own Wikipedia entry
[edit]Hello, I've written my own Wikipedia page. I've ensured that everything I've included is as objective as possible. What I've included is backed up with multiple references to ensure that it's credible and all the information can be verified easily. Is this ok, or do I need to change it (or ask a third party to write the page)? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Sarah_Hyndman All the best, Sarah Sarahmhyndman (talk) 15:18, 29 August 2021 (UTC)
Update I already have a mention on this Wikipedia page. I didn't link to it because it seemed a little tenuous. Should I add it? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Didot_(typeface) A survey of 368 people done by writer and typographer Sarah Hyndman suggested that bold typefaces with rounder terminals appear cheaper, whereas lighter weights, serifs, and contrasts were rated as more expensive, with the modern Didot selected as the most expensive-looking font.[16] Sarahmhyndman (talk) 17:21, 29 August 2021 (UTC)
- I will say (having seen your Teahouse post) that I think your draft is unlikely to be accepted. You have a common misunderstanding of Wikipedia in that it is not a place to merely tell about someone and what they do(even leaving aside that you are writing about yourself, which presents its own issues). A Wikipedia article about a writer must summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about the person, showing how they meet the special Wikipedia definition of a notable creative professional. Your draft cites what you have done, but not why independent sources consider you to be notable. Please see Your First Article and the autobiography poilcy.
- As I said, writing about yourself presents its own issues, as people naturally write favorably about themselves- and as I say above, Wikipedia is interested in what others say about you. I will say that as a writer, the odds are probably higher that you can successfully write about yourself, but they are still not good. You would need to set aside everything you know about yourself and all materials put out by yourself or those associated with you(like your publisher) and only write based on what others say about you. That's usually difficult for people to do about themselves. I've never personally seen it happen in my many years here, though it's technically possible and likely has happened with others. Keep in mind that even if you succeeded in getting a draft accepted, you wouldn't be able to edit it yourself again, and would be limited to edit requests. 331dot (talk) 15:48, 7 September 2021 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions; however, it appears you may have written a Wikipedia article, or a draft for a Wikipedia article, about yourself. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – please see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to or change an existing article about yourself, you are welcome to propose the changes by visiting the article's talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was the page I created deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss this with the deleting administrator. Thank you.
