Archives of American Art
Hi Sarah - is this for New York or DC? Do you know the general time frame? I'd like to give a tentative 'yes' but when do you need a definitive response? Hope all is well --David Shankbone 16:34, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hi David, thanks for coming by. It's in DC, all the details are located on the event page. Again, only 10 Wikimedians can attend, and people will be moved onto a waitlist. There is no RSVP date, and I will be emailing all who sign up to attend to verify that they are attending a few days in advance. There will be other Smithsonian related Backstage Passes (this Fall), FYI. =) There is also a National Archives event which will take place in early August (I don't know the details, I just know it'll happen). Sorry I can't be of more help! SarahStierch (talk) 16:37, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
-- Sarah: I'd love to come to future events, but I'll be out of town on that day. Let me know if something like this happens again, though. Thanks! LFaraone 17:44, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
-- This is bad ass... wish I could come.... Always thought someone should mine the treasure that is DC museums and you seem to be the person to do it! Let me know of future events please!!! ROCK ON!!! Lwoodyiii (talk) 23:26, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

DYK for William Anderson Coffin
On 28 July 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article William Anderson Coffin, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that New York Post art critic William Anderson Coffin was awarded the French Legion of Honor? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

SAAM licenses
hi sarah, check this out: Dewey Albinson was a Public Works of Art Project, and all the works produced are with SAAM [9] and PD, but licensed cc-by-1.0 NC ND on flickr [10] was there and now taken down? i am confused. do we need to have this discussion? Slowking4: 7@1|x 18:33, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
- Wow. They license this stuff, and they want you to pay to use it, which is unfortunate, since it is obviously PD. As are a lot of the images on Flickr. It can be brought up (though the Archives of American Art has NOTHING to do with SAAM decisions) with SAAM if you wish, but, right now I only have time for one institution with annoying copyright restrictions =) Really great example though, and something we have to keep on our mind to discuss in the future. SarahStierch (talk) 18:37, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
- here's the exhibition website [11] i am sympathetic to the fremium thesis. (upload thumbnails to commons with reference to their full size for sale). i think a general discussion of image management, showing NARA's release of ansel adams would be productive. [12] i leave the diplomacy to you; i can be bad cop ;> Slowking4: 7@1|x 18:43, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

- They are familiar with NARA and all the details, trust me! I just gave a talk about copyright on Wednesday. SAAM folks attended and we have some ideas in the works. Patience =) SarahStierch (talk) 22:21, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

Collaboration between Wikimedians in Residence
Hi Sarah, just read about your meetup today and would like to signal an interest in getting involved this time or in the longer term. I have listed some ideas about how to combine GLAM and OA activities at GLAM/OA and would be particularly interested to establish contact with the scientific divisions at SI. Cheers, ---- Daniel Mietchen 20:51, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
- I'm excited to see you touch base with Sarah, Daniel, and was thrilled to hear of the Wikimedian in Residence concept broadening for such a great project. Having been the Children's Museum of Indianapolis' Wikipedian in Residence since August 2010, I'm also very interested in Wiki-in-Residence collaborations and would be interested to touch base with you. The Children's Museum is very heavy on the sciences, and strongly supports their Science Port programming that covers many disciplines in order to educate children and families. Wikipedians in Residence are very collaborative folk :). Hope to speak soon - My museum webpage. Wikipedia project page. Commons project page. LoriLee (talk) 18:22, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
Hi from TheBlueWizard!
It was a pleasure chatting with you last night at the meetup. Of course, as a reminder, you can learn about American Sign Language. In that article there is a brief paragraph on grammar with a link to American Sign Language grammar. I hope that clears up the matter. Unfortunately, there is no standard writing system for ASL. The best way to learn ASL is to take a course. Another way is to attend a deaf gathering such as ASL Dinner, which I co-host (see ASL Dinner). Have a nice day! TheBlueWizard (talk) 19:48, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks
Sarah,
Thanks for your organization of the AAA GLAM event, and please relay my appreciation to all the folks at AAA who participated. Everybody was extremely friendly and professional. My personal difficulties were dealt with extremely well. You've set a standard for other GLAM events to match.
I skipped out of the meetup at the bar afterwards and headed straight for the hotel pool! I did manage to get some Washington photos for NRHP and even a few Public Art pix (but I probably can't use them - Pushkin statue at GWU and Henry Muhlenberg bust in Tenley Park are typical - probably copyrighted)
Thanks again and all the best,

Hi,
A little boldly I tweaked your list User:SarahStierch/Women's artists without articles as {{find}} might encourage readers to have a go at creating initial stubs (if they can spot some good sources). Cheers Fæ (talk) 22:05, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
