Planetary nebula (New Review)
[edit]I've taken your suggestion, and placed a FA Review on the Planetary Nebula. I have never done this action before, so I might need your or others experience/guidance here. (I hope I've haven't stuffed it up, so apologies if I've erred in some way.) Thanks kindly for your help and support. Arianewiki1 (talk) 14:58, 7 June 2014 (UTC)
Teahouse not autoconfirmed
[edit]I didn't mean to split the discussion, but when I saw that user's talk page using a userscript which usually lists the rights, it didn't say autoconfirmed. I'm thinking that it may be a bug or something, as it shows everybody else's autoconfirmed status, but not his, meaning he doesn't have it. Tutelary (talk) 19:45, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Tutelary, that's strange as this tool shows that the user has the autoconfirmed right. Sam Walton (talk) 19:47, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
- Gonna strike out my comment. Shouldn't rely on userscripts. Apologies. Tutelary (talk) 19:48, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
- No worries. What userscript was it, out of interest? Sam Walton (talk) 19:50, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
- See 'User Info' under 'User pages' at WP:US. It's one of the main ones I use, along with Admin Rights (highlights all admins as blue.) Tutelary (talk) 19:52, 10 June 2014 (UTC)

Meetup today
[edit]Hi Sam; there's a meetup in Liverpool today. If you're around, it would be great if you came by. Hope you're doing well. Mark M (talk) 09:10, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Mark, I'd have loved to go but unfortunately am currently in Holland! Will definitely be attending the next meetup that happens after August! Sam Walton (talk) 11:00, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
Ivy Parker DYK Nomination
[edit]Sam, I've just reviewed your article about Ivy Parker. Very well written and worthwhile. There are a few points that should be considered, though I don't see them as show stoppers for the nomination: 1. The name of Ivy's birth state should be added to the infobox and the text. 2. I think the passage about her NACE editorship is a little to confusing; the reference says that she was named the first editor of their magazine Corrosion. Wording in the article indicated that she was an editor of their first magazine. I think the two versions mean different things. The latter more strongly suggests that NACE recognized her importance to their field. Additionally, the reference indicates she served in that position for 21 years, which overlapped her industrial career. Another tribute to her professional notability. 3. Reference 2 says she won the Garvin Prize. The wikipedia article Garvin-Olin Medal indicates the prize was the forerunner of the medal. Yet Ivy Parker does not appear on the list of winners. This should be checked for factual accuracy.
Anyhow, thanks for your work on this article. Bruin2 (talk) 15:09, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you for the pointers! I've corrected the first two things but am not 100% confident with the 3rd; not sure whether the Medal article should mention the prize, be changed to be about both, or some other option. I'll have a think about it and maybe do something about that. Sam Walton (talk) 11:11, 27 June 2014 (UTC)

WikiCup 2014 June newsletter
[edit]After an extremely close race, Round 3 is over. 244 points secured a place in Round 4, which is comparable to previous years- 321 was required in 2013, while 243 points were needed in 2012. Pool C's Godot13 (submissions) was the round's highest scorer, mostly due to a 32 featured pictures, including both scans and photographs. Also from Pool C, Casliber (submissions) finished second overall, claiming three featured articles, including the high-importance Grus (constellation). Third place was Pool B's , whose contributions included featured articles Russian battleship Poltava (1894) and Russian battleship Peresvet. Pool C saw the highest number of participants advance, with six out of eight making it to the next round.
The round saw this year's first featured portal, with Sven Manguard (submissions) taking Portal:Literature to featured status. The round also saw the first good topic points, thanks to 12george1 (submissions) and the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season. This means that all content types have been claimed this year. Other contributions of note this round include a featured topic on Maya Angelou's autobiographies from Figureskatingfan (submissions), a good article on the noted Czech footballer Tomáš Rosický from Cloudz679 (submissions) and a now-featured video game screenshot, freely released due to the efforts of Sven Manguard (submissions).
The judges would like to remind participants to update submission pages promptly. This means that content can be checked, and allows those following the competition (including those participating) to keep track of scores effectively. This round has seen discussion about various aspects of the WikiCup's rules and procedures. Those interested in the competition can be assured that formal discussions about how next year's competition will work will be opened shortly, and all are welcome to voice their views then. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! The International
[edit]Hey, Sam! Admittedly, I was skeptical about creating an article for an individual esports event, but upon viewing the page and seeing your reliable sources, I believe there is indeed potential! I'll endorse the continued existence of the page, should it be challenged. I'm currently engrossed in business and The International, so I don't have time to edit the page at the moment, but I'd remove the italics from all the teams, as it's unnecessary. That being said, I'd appreciate your own review at my FAC for the Dota 2 article. :) DARTHBOTTO talk•cont 21:07, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks! That's fair, I'm never sure on italics. Ah yeah I've been meaning to take a look at the FAC actually, and may do soon. I take it you're attending TI4? Sam Walton (talk) 21:09, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, I declined IceFrog's VIP pass offer, as I'm in a transitional stage of my life, with having graduated with several degrees and getting ready to move. :( DARTHBOTTO talk•cont 01:45, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
- VIP pass? And you didn't share the wealth? Will get to your FAC this weekend czar ♔ 03:48, 10 July 2014 (UTC)
