The 2010 WikiCup begins tomorrow!

Welcome to the biggest WikiCup Wikipedia has yet seen! Round one will take place over two months, and finish on February 26. There is only one pool, and the top 64 will progress. The competition will be tough, as more than half of the current competitors will not make it to round 2. Details about scoring have been finalized and are explained at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring. Please make sure you're familiar with the scoring rules, because any submissions made that violate these rules will be removed. Like always, the judges can be reached through the WikiCup talk pages, on their talk page, or over IRC with any issues concerning anything tied to the Cup. We will keep in contact with you via weekly newsletters; if you do not want to receive them, please remove yourself from the list here. Conversely, if a non-WikiCup participant wishes to receive the newsletters, they may add themselves to that list. Well, enough talk- get writing! Your submission's page is located here. Details on how to submit your content is located here, so be sure to check that out! Once content has been recognized, it can be added to your submissions page, from which our bot will update the main score table. Remember that only articles worked on and nominated during the competition are eligible for points. Have fun, and good luck! Garden, iMatthew, J Milburn, and The ed17 19:22, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

Yes, you may work on Stub or Start-class articles. iMatthew talk at 22:30, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi. Regarding your query on this talk page - I don't know if this TV show has anything on particle accelerators (dramatic particle accelerators? - a little joke - it is a TV drama). However, if you come across anything related to particle accelerators in popular culture please feel free to add or contribute to this article, including this show. On your main-user page you noted that you always use verifiable sources - so there is no need to worry about that. And don't worry about scientific accuracy - most dramas and novels are only only vaguely accurate. Your students are welcome to add to this page as well. DYK

Hello! Your submission of Miracle’s Boys (novel) at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! --otherlleft 18:42, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

I have and I think that makes the hook much, um, hookier! I did find that the MOS on apostrophes prefers the straight kind. Other than that I would give it the green light, but since (like you) this is my first time I won't out of caution.--otherlleft 22:40, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

WikiCup flag

Hi, I'm afraid it has come to our attention that the flag you chose for the WikiCup is used here under a non-free license. Could you please choose another eligible flag for yourself? If you're not bothered, let me know and I will assign one randomly for you :) J Milburn (talk) 18:53, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

I have given you the flag of Bulgaria. Fly it with pride! J Milburn (talk) 02:18, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

DYK for Miracle’s Boys (novel)

Updated DYK query On January 19, 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Miracle’s Boys (novel), which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits your article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check ) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

WikiCup 2010 January newsletter

We are half way through round one of the WikiCup. We've had some shakeups regarding late entries, flag changes and early dropouts, but the competition is now established- there will be no more flag changes or new competitors. Congratulations to Hungary Sasata (submissions), our current leader, who, at the time of writing, has more listed points than Pennsylvania Hunter Kahn (submissions) and New Orleans TonyTheTiger (submissions) (second and third place respectively) combined. A special well done also goes to Isle of Man Fetchcomms (submissions)- his artcle Jewel Box (St. Louis, Missouri) was the first content to score points in the competition.

Around half of competitors are yet to score. Please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. 64 of the 149 current competitors will advance to round 2- if you currently have no points, do not worry, as over half of the current top 64 have under 50 points. Everyone needs to get their entries in now to guarantee their places in round 2! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, by email or on IRC. Good luck! WikiProject Theatre Newsletter - February 2010

The WikiProject Theatre Newsletter (Febrauary 2010)
The WikiProject Theatre Newsletter!
Issue 5 - February 2010

Welcome to the latest WikiProject Theatre newsletter (the first in quite a while!) bringing you news of what's going on in the project, what progress we're making, and how you can get involved.

Latest News
  • All theatre articles currently tagged with a project banner have now been assessed for quality. There are still plenty to assess for importance, though - see the article assessment page for details.
  • There is now a News section on the main project page, updated automatically to keep us informed of developments in theatre articles.
Collaboration of the Month
  • Theatre has been nominated as the next project collaboration. This could be an excellent opportunity to improve the quality of one of our most important articles - listed as one of Wikipedia's top 1000 most vital articles - but it needs a lot of work before it can be considered for even good article nomination!
  • Stop by the collaboration page for tips on how to improve an article, to add your support, or to suggest alternative or future collaborations.
Jobs you can do

Any and all improvements to theatre-related articles will help the project, but if you're looking for something to do, have a look at the to-do list. Some current areas of priority are:

If you are currently working on a particular topic or area of the project, and would like to muster some support from other editors, feel free to add tasks to the to-do list. Or even think about setting up an informal working group - create a project subpage to organise tasks in a central location. Remember you can always discuss ideas with others at the project talk page.

New members

If you've been editing a theatre-related article recently and noticed another user helping you who also appears to have an interest for the subject of theatre, why not drop them a line and invite them over to the project?

And finally...

You have received this newsletter because your name is on the list of Members on the WikiProject page. If this information is out of date and you no longer wish to receive the newsletter, please remove your name from the list, or click here to stop receiving it.
If you have any news or announcements to be broadcast, do let us know on the talk page.

Materialscientist (talk) 12:01, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

I have recently proposed some extensive changes to the layout of project pages in WikiProject Children's literature. The changes can be viewed in my sandbox, and are summarised on this talk page. The proposed changes include major reformatting of the main project page, the creation of five new project sub-pages, and moves to two existing sub-pages. Please look over these proposals, and join the discussion. strdst_grl (call me Stardust) 10:38, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

Urgent- tiebreakers for WikiCup round 2

Hello. As you may be aware, the second round of the WikiCup begins tomorrow, and you are one of five users on 20 points. There is one place remaining in the next round. As such, I have two questions- firstly, are you interested in getting through to the next round? If the answer is yes, then secondly, please let me know of any outstanding nominations (as in, ongoing nominations) of content, so that this may be considered, or any work you have done in review processes (GAC, PR, FAC, that kind of thing) over the last two months. Thanks. Please reply as soon as possible in this thread. J Milburn (talk) 11:52, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

WikiCup 2010 February newsletter

Round one is over, and round two has begun! Congratulations to the 64 contestants who have made it through, but well done and thank you to all contestants who took part in our first round. A special well done goes to Hungary Sasata (submissions), our round one winner (1010 points), and to Pennsylvania Hunter Kahn (submissions) and New Orleans TonyTheTiger (submissions), who were second and third respectively (640 points/605 points). Sasata was awarded the most points for both good articles (300 points) and featured articles (600 points), and TonyTheTiger was awarded the most for featured topics (225 points), while Hunter Kahn claimed the most for good topics (70). Connecticut Staxringold (submissions) claimed the most featured lists (240 points) and featured pictures (35 points), Geschichte (submissions) claimed the most for Did you know? entries (490 points), Jujutacular (submissions) claimed the most for featured sounds (70 points) and Republic of Ireland Candlewicke (submissions) claimed the most for In the news entries (40 points). No one claimed a featured portal or valued picture.

Credits awarded after the end of round one but before round two may be claimed in round two, but remember the rule that content must have been worked on in some significant way during 2010 by you for you to claim points. The groups for round two will be placed up shortly, and the submissions' pages will be blanked. This round will continue until 28 April, when the top two users from each group, as well as 16 wildcards, will progress to round three. Please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup; thank you to all doing this last round, and particularly to those helping at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, by email or on IRC. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Peer Review of Rod Serling

Hello, I've completed a peer review of the Rod Serling article. You can find the review here. I may not be watching the review page so if you have any questions or concerns please post them on my talk page and I'll be happy to discuss the review with you. Keep up the good work. WikiProject Children's literature has recently launched a new Collaboration department. The first Collaboration Article is Curious George (book) - please contribute in any way that you can! If you wish to be alerted to future collaboration articles, this template will be updated regularly, and can be included on your user page as a template. Thank you, strdst_grl (call me Stardust) 17:05, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

Rod Serling Article Sound Clip

Hello,

I noticed that you are working on the Rod Serling Article. I have a sound clip of him speaking these words:

"The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosives and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, prejudices, to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill, and suspicion can destroy. And a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own.” - The Twilight Zone: “ The Monsters are Due on Maple Street" circa 1960

I could send you a sound copy via email if you like. Do you think adding this sound clip (if it's technically possible) to his Article would enrich it? It is my very favorite Serling quote. -- Michael David (talk) 18:13, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

You have been my adoptee for several months now, and as far as I can tell you are editing productively without any problems. Unless you have any final issues, I would like to suggest that it's time for you to graduate - although if you wish to remain adopted I am happy to do so, and even after graduation you can feel free to ask for help at any time. strdst_grl (call me Stardust) 13:39, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

Ways to promote the project
If you're interested in promoting the project, why not visit the Outreach department for more ideas?

There are many ways to promote the project. One of them is to add the project's ad to your userpage. To do this, simply add the code {{Template:Wikipedia ads|ad=212}} to your talk or user page. Another thing you can do is to invite other users to join the project. To find prospective members search the history pages of Children's literature-related articles and invite people who seem to be deoing good things for these articles. The code for the invitation template is {{subst:Wikipedia:WikiProject Children's literature/Invite}}.

From the Editor

Hello and welcome to this, the third edition of our WikiProject's newsletter. In this month's newsletter, I encountered a problem, well, two problems actually. I needed some help with the production: suggestions and other writers. As with last month, if you have any suggestions for the newsletter, please add them at the Tips Desk. If you would like to write some of the next issue, that's even better! Just come go over to the main Newsletter page to see where you can help out, and of course, as always, please give us your feedback on this edition, on the talk page.
