User talk:SBO employee
January 2013
[edit]Hello, SBO employee. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Sommers–Bausch Observatory, you may need to consider our guidance on conflicts of interest.
All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.
If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:
- Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
- Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
- Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
- Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.
Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.
For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 17:48, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
Conflict of Interest

- I have made the user account exclusive to myself and updated the User page accordingly. Thank you for helping me sort out the COI policies. The intent was to make a more complete article rather than the "stub" that is currently available. Any breach of policy was unintentional. SBO employee (talk) 22:47, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
- If you could find some reliable third party references that report on the Observatory that would be great, primary sources are not so good.CheersTheroadislong (talk) 22:52, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
- Am I correct to understand that those third party references should go in the article's talk page as a request to add information? It would still be out of place for me to make the edits, right? SBO employee (talk) 23:05, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
- That's probably the safest way for you to proceed. I'll have a look for some sources myself tomorrow.Theroadislong (talk) 23:10, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
- Excellent, thank you so much! I will also see what I can find. SBO employee (talk) 23:27, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks again for your help with this. I have access to an archive here that I can sort through to find appropriate third party sources, so I'll be taking some time to go through them before putting in a request. SBO employee (talk) 18:51, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
