Changing quoted material

[edit]

Hi, Ryanisgreat4444. Thank you your many helpful contributions. I am leaving you a note because I have noticed that in a few of your edits, you changed quoted material contrary to the actual source material, such as [1] [2] [3]. In those examples, there was also nothing wrong with the grammar but only a difference in spelling from a British English source, which you should not be changing for quotations. Quoted material needs to reflect how it is written in the source material. Similarly, articles that are written using British English spellings should not be changed, such as here. You can learn more about spelling differences at Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Spelling, and you may also want to review the guidelines for capitalization, which can be found at Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Capital letters. Please be more careful in the future, and feel free to let me know if you have any questions. Thanks. – wallyfromdilbert (talk) 00:36, 25 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Another example here where you improperly changed quoted material to no longer represent the source material. There was also nothing wrong with the grammar in that quote (until you changed it). In addition, you should also read Wikipedia:Red link#Dealing with existing red links since it is not always appropriate to simply remove all red wikilinks from articles, as those are different from "dead links" (which are external webpages that are no longer available online). – wallyfromdilbert (talk) 00:43, 25 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Please read MOS:REDLINKS. You are removing valid redlinks, not "dead links," which is a term with a specific meaning. You've already been apprised of this, per the above. Grandpallama (talk) 22:01, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. I see you updating many RT scores in old movie articles without altering the access date. I think you are familiar with access dates as you have introduced them in other articles when adding a RT reference from scratch. Please make sure to update them when they are already there. Any questions please let me know! --SubSeven (talk) 06:44, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Mardi Gras Carnival moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Mardi Gras Carnival, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Information icon Hello. In a recent edit, you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, India, or Pakistan use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the original author of the article used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. Thank you.

There is no default English variety on the English Wikipedia. An article does not need to be specifically tagged for British English to be left alone in British English if that's what is obviously in British English. You're recent edits are a bad idea and should be immediately reverted. oknazevad (talk) 19:08, 13 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback granted

[edit]

Hi Ryanisgreat4444. After reviewing your request, I have temporarily enabled rollback on your account until 2023-04-28. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle or RedWarn.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! — TheresNoTime (talk • they/them) 16:52, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism

[edit]

Good morning from Salerno, Italy. Could you please define "vandalism"? Adding non personal abstract public domain info in a page is "vandalism"? Thank you Golfodisalerno (talk) 13:29, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:Vandalism for information. Ryanisgreat4444 (talk) 13:48, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've read all the Wikipedia Vandalism page.
I made nothing of that.
I made a list of tourist attractions in Salerno.
Is it vandalism? Golfodisalerno (talk) 14:31, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is simply unnecessary. Ryanisgreat4444 (talk) 14:43, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just to understand.
It's simply unnecessary a list of tourist attractions in a free encyclopedia presenting the sum of ALL human knowledge?
Or it's simply unnecessary that I learn how this list is vandalism? Golfodisalerno (talk) 14:49, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The list isn't needed. Ryanisgreat4444 (talk) 14:53, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So what about:
Lists of tourist attractions - Wikipedia
List of Disneyland attractions - Wikipedia
AAAAA Tourist Attractions of China - Wikipedia
Tourist attractions in the United States - Wikipedia
List of tourist attractions in Varanasi - Wikipedia
...
are they unnecessary?
Would you please delete those "vandalistic" lists? Golfodisalerno (talk) 18:38, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Golfodisalerno: I think Ryanisgreat4444 was quite right to revert this edit of yours. It did not, however, fall into the category of VANDALISM, but it was not in any way helpful. Adding uncited statements plus a whole list of Google Map hyperlinks is not what a good encyclopaedia entry needs. I would have reverted it myself had I seen it.
Your 'whatabout?' example of List of tourist attractions in Varanasi is wholly different. See this page which explains that standalone lists like that should be only of notable topics already with an article on Wikipedia about them. Lists of notable features in a single article about a region are acceptable, but they need to have each entry either wikilinking to the relevant article about that feature, or they should cite a proper source that says something about it and makes it clear that it is notable. Just a Google map link to a myriad names is utterly pointless, and simply served to fill the article with trivia. We'd rather have a few well-cited features mentioned that others can then expand upon, rather than what you added. But I appreciate it was done with the best of intentions, so vandalism it was not! Regards, Nick Moyes (talk) 14:56, 20 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I would like to thank you for your long response which I appreciate. I was pretty sure that calling my edit "vandalism" was a bit of a stretch. I am also quite sure that sometimes the action of some controller is not as precise as it should be, especially if articles similar to mine have already been present on the Wiki for some time without any problem.
