Hello Roundtheworld, and welcome to Wikipedia. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and a cited source. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied without attribution. If you want to copy from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. The articles that I noticed where you had copied the source material word for word are Poultry and Common Fisheries Policy. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 18:58, 27 February 2014 (UTC)
- I can see you have got the idea and are putting things right. I only noticed your actions because I am doing some intensive expansion of Poultry. I had already rephrased the bit you had added and moved it to a different position in the "Poultry farming" section where I thought it fitted better. I've now moved your latest contribution to the first paragraph of the section and removed the duplication. You can see just what alterations anyone has made by clicking on the "View history" tab at top right of the screen and then clicking "prev", to the left of whichever edit interests you. Its also helpful if, when you make an edit to an article, you add an edit summary so that it is easy to see what you have been doing. Cheers! Cwmhiraeth (talk) 11:04, 28 February 2014 (UTC)

For developing articles like Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands (novel) and Sea of Death beyond plot-centered stubs. Too often literary articles on Wikipedia focus on plot or very subjective, your small expansions of these articles and others, helps ensure that the public sees the works as part of a larger conversation about literature! Keep up the good work, and I would like to encourage you to keep expanding stubs in this way! Sadads (talk) 20:25, 18 December 2014 (UTC) |

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of The ABC of Castro Alves, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.jorgeamado.com.br/obra.php3?codigo=12610&idioma_new=I.
It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.
If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. I have performed a search with the contents of Mausoleum of Maxentius, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Mausoleum of maxentius. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. File source problem with File:Prince-Alberts-Model-Lodging-House-Hyde-Park.jpg
Thank you for uploading File:Prince-Alberts-Model-Lodging-House-Hyde-Park.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.
If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.
Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 15:39, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:SintraRoadCover1.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:SintraRoadCover1.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:42, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:14, 30 June 2018 (UTC)

Invitation from Wikimedia Portugal
(English below)
Agradecemos desde já!
Hi! Wikimedia Portugal is the Portuguese chapter of Wikimedia, founded in 2009 and recognized by the Wikimedia Foundation. Our mission is to contribute to the general dissemination of knowledge and culture through the incentive to the collection and creation of content without restrictions on use, modification and distribution, and promote their difusion; we promote and support the Wikimedia Foundation projects, among which Wikipedia, with emphasis on projects in Portuguese and Mirandese.
We would like however to count on the support of (and in turn ourselves support) all volunteers that are citizens, resident, or simply interested in Portugal. Despite being founded in 2009, the chapter has gone through a long period of inactivity that we are trying to overcome. We have sent you this message to invite you, if you are interested, to enroll as associate to the chapter, demonstrate your support to the existence of a chapter in Portugal, and get involved in the discussion of future activities by registering in the mailing list. Recentely, the Wikimedia Affiliations Committee suspended support to Wikimedia Portugal pending, among other things, the support from the community of portuguese editors. Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:17, 25 August 2018 (UTC)

File:AguadeInglaterra.png listed for discussion
A file that you uploaded or altered, File:AguadeInglaterra.png, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for discussion. Please see the discussion to see why it has been listed (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry). Feel free to add your opinion on the matter below the nomination. Hello, I'm Zackmann08. Thank you for your recent contributions to Palmela Palace (Cascais). I noticed that when you added the image to the infobox, you added it as a thumbnail. In the future, please do not use thumbnails when adding images to an infobox (see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE). What does this mean? Well in the infobox, when you specify the image you wish to use, instead of doing it like this:
|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]
Instead just supply the name of the image. So in this case you can simply do:
|image=SomeImage.jpg
.
There will then be a separate parameter for the image caption such as |caption=Some image caption
. Please note that this is a generic form message I am leaving on your page because you recently added a thumbnail to an infobox. The specific parameters for the image and caption may be different for the infobox you are using! Please consult the Template page for the infobox being used to see better documentation. Thanks! Orphaned non-free image File:1-CoverofSaintChristopherbyEcadeQueiroz.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:1-CoverofSaintChristopherbyEcadeQueiroz.jpg.
Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:22, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
Disputed non-free use rationale for File:1-CoverofSaintChristopherbyEcadeQueiroz.jpg
Thank you for uploading File:1-CoverofSaintChristopherbyEcadeQueiroz.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.
This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 20 November 2018 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of islands of Papua New Guinea, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Passage Island (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Linhas de Torres Vedras
Good afternoon, Sorry in the delay in provide you an answer, but due personnal reasons I'm in a "detox" process in Wikipedia. Concerning your request on my discussion page about the captioned subject, wich I'm gratefull, as I recently made some pictures on Malveira Fort with my soulmate, this schoolar year provided on the area, and as the subject really needs a revision for her pupils educational purposes, I´ll start to update the portugueses texts in Fortalezas.org on the next days. At this moment, please just note that the reference to Portela forts is not sharp: according the reading of the old plants, "Portela Pequeno" is the "Obra Militar nr. 41", and "Portela Grande" is the "nr. 42". Please refer your own quote "ROTEIRO Nº4 - A ROTA HISTÓRICA DAS LINHAS DE TORRES" (PDF). Museu Municipal Vila Franca de Xira. Also note that the portuguese fonts commit the same misundestand. If you need, you will find my personal contact both in Wikipedia (my old texts) and in Fortalezas.org (my revised, enlarged and, when available, ilustrated texts). Many thanks once more. Best regards, Cruz — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:8A0:7984:3E01:E995:62BC:C54A:DA1E (talk) 13:53, 28 September 2019 (UTC)
- Mission accomplished: the texts assigned as "Fortificação das Linhas de Torres Vedras" at fortalezas.org are now revised by me. Please note that, by now, I accept the map [c. 1810] information as correct, until I found another font from this period that deny it. On my experience, later fonts could just copy and paste misunderstoods until today. Additionally, comparision of the dimensions of both structures reforces my observation: the "Ajuda Grande" is the big one, and the "Ajuda Pequeno" is, as a matter of fact, the smaller one... Trust you find all in good order, Cruz — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:8A0:7984:3E01:18A1:B5DB:4799:78FD (talk) 19:22, 7 October 2019 (UTC)

Grape therapy
On my talk page, you said: "While I accept some of your criticisms of the Grape therapy article, which I have tried to address, I cannot agree with your comment when editing ("dubious article") that implies you do not think the article is valid as a Wikipedia article. Just because something is probably quackery does not mean it is not a valid article for Wikipedia. People who come across the term Grape Therapy have a right to use Wikipedia to find out what it is all about. You might just as well say that half the articles about popular music singers should be deleted because the singers are crap, which they probably are but that does not negate the validity of the article."
- Thanks for raising the issue, one that is typically controversial on Wikipedia where facts have to be posed against misinformation and myths, as grape therapy would be defined. The main problem with the grape therapy article is the absence of reliable sources 1) to indicate it is in current common use (European spas, etc.) and 2) to give a reliable basis for why it was (or is) thought to have any benefit. The sources we have for the article are inadequate or absent to resolve these issues. I edited further today to give it more context. We can discuss it further here or - better - on the grape therapy talk page where other editors can have input. Thanks and good luck. --Zefr (talk) 15:43, 15 February 2020 (UTC)

Hi there, Roundtheworld, and welcome to Women in Red. It's good to have an experienced editor writing about Portuguese women, especially as they are not very well represented on the EN wiki. Translated pages
Hi, you can use a template for the translation attribution on the articles talk page, which is easier than writing out the text in full. For Clementina Carneiro de Moura, the template would be {{translated|pt|Clementina Carneiro de Moura|small=no}}
, which displays as:
This page was edited to contain a total or partial translation of Clementina Carneiro de Moura from the Portuguese Wikipedia. Consult the history of the original page to see a list of its authors. |
This will also add the page to Category:Pages translated from Portuguese Wikipedia. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 20:15, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

DYK for Maria Luísa de Sousa Holstein, 3rd Duchess of Palmela
On 9 July 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Maria Luísa de Sousa Holstein, 3rd Duchess of Palmela, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that King Carlos I of Portugal often donated the game shot during his hunts to a soup kitchen founded by Maria Luísa de Sousa Holstein? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Maria Luísa de Sousa Holstein, 3rd Duchess of Palmela. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Maria Luísa de Sousa Holstein, 3rd Duchess of Palmela), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
