Conflict of Interest
[edit]Hello, Rodney B James. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, please:
- avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your circle, your organization, its competitors, projects or products;
- instead propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
- when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you.
- As the author of the document heavily quoted here, you may have a conflict of interest that you must declare, as per the rules above. You can continue to edit the draft, but you need to know that when/if the draft is promoted to the WP main space you may not continue to edit it if you do have a conflict of interest. At the same time, you are obviously a good person to be initiating this article because of your knowledge of the subject. The important thing is to edit with a neutral point of view. Rodney B James (talk) 04:42, 29 January 2016 (UTC) Hello,
I am an Australian art historian, researcher and curator with specialist expertise in Australian art.
My first article for Wikipedia is on the Australian artist Ian Gardiner. Although I have not been paid to write or edit this article, it is based on research and writing that I undertook for the Ian Gardiner Estate in 2015, principally cataloguing his works and producing a book on his life and work. The article uses some of that research including interviews conducted with his wife, friends and contemporaries. Although the content of these interviews is not available in the public domain, the article counterbalances these non-verifiable sources by references to authors and publications easily accessible at public libraries.Rodney B James (talk) 04:42, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
- Rodney B James, thank you for clarifying. However, there is no "counterbalance" to non-verifiable sources -- unverifiable sources are simply not allowed (see wp:v), so you need to base the article on independent, published sources, not on the interviews you have done. Hi LaMona, Thank you for your advice. I will endeavour to omit the non-verifiable sources from the text and change the entry on my account and user page accordingly. Hopefully this will get the piece accpeted. Regards RodneyRodney B James (talk) 23:54, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

Rodney B James (talk) 08:37, 5 March 2016 (UTC)Hello Smokey Joe. Thank you for your advice in your last message. I think a basic problem is that I have been making a lot of edits and changes in response to the various feedback I have been getting, including adding quite a few additional published or verifiable references. Problem is I mustn't have ticked a box that indicates edits have been made each time I have been asked. If any of the reviewers could check the latest draft against the first one they would see that this essay has been changed quite dramatically. Sorry to have taken up everybody's time on this, I can see that you are all quite busy. I'm about to give up on more corrections which is a shame - not sure what else I can do to make it comply with Wikipedia style and tone.Rodney B James (talk) 08:37, 5 March 2016 (UTC)
